Reading Strategies Worksheet

Identify two reading goals, one short-term and one long-term.

• Long-term reading goal:
• Short-term reading goal:

Write a 100- to 150-word response to each of the following questions:

• How do you currently approach the weekly readings in the course?

First I start by reading the syllabus, Highlight the main important areas then go in to the material and separate the pages…….

So when I have time I can read and go thru and most likely follow not in that exact order but now as I been reading I can at least sort it out in order. 1. Previewing: Slowly page by page to be able to see how the content extended is

2. Marking: Before the course I did not marked nothing but now I try to mark the main content discussed on class or more closely related to the weekly questions.

3. Reading with Concentration: This is the time when I take advantage of brake times or just simply night time after every one is sleep to be able to concentrate and keep myself away from any situation that will distract me from what I need to focus.

4. Reviewing: right now I usually don’t do it but after reading the plan for active reading I am trying to do it.

I can perhaps practice mapping more often more like index cards on a notebook; and try to use more the lab and electronic devices tools that the university offers to be able to widely research more about the topic……

•How might this plan help you accomplish your reading goals?
It’s like a treasure of knowledge, yes you can read, highlight, and preview but in the order that I was previously doing it…….

Now I see it was just making it harder for me, I was trying to take it all as a whole, I was NOT using it in order as I had described it on the first topic like the Active Reading Plan is showing, It is A great deal of help, a smart and simple way.

I don’t know how I did not thought about it, yes I was following some of those steps but was making so many mistakes that was making my work harder and giving me more stress.

Now I can even create my own index card with my highlights, Google it, research it on the university library, not a big fan of the kindle but my notebook.

Now can use tragedies that will help me stay focus, increase my concentration with a better and easier understanding on what read and the way this can connect me with what already know or research or clarify my content, I can say that I am more
