Value Alignment In every business, ethics and core values are very crucial tools that connect to the survivorship of an employee’s position in the workplace. These same values describe and define the personal outlook on an individual’s life. Team B will analyze the individual values and Dell’s values as reflected by Dell’s organizational plans and actions. The team will describe each one’s own evolution of personal and workplace values. An explanation will explain how individual values drive Team B’s actions and behavior, and analyze the alignment between the Team’s alignment between their values, actions, and behavior. A description of the degrees of alignment between Dell’s stated values, plans, and actions are provided. An explanation is also submitted in an effort to show the difference and analyze the degree of alignment between the Team’s values and Dell’s values as reflected by Dell’s plans and actions.
Evolution of Personal and Workplace Values The origin and subsequent evolution of Team B’s personal and workplace values are similar. Each member was nurtured at an early age about how to exhibit practical values such as integrity, accountability, diligence, perseverance, and discipline. The same values are applied in the team’s personal lives as it is in their workplace. Often times business men and women lie on the job, steal company supplies, and use company equipment for personal gain. Valuable lessons were taken in by Team B from watching employees in the workplace get caught, suffer the consequences, and sometimes get fired. The same lessons apply personally with siblings or relatives who lie, steal, and take other people’s personal property that do not belong to them. As a result of incidents in the workplace and from personal experiences, the members of Team B are very knowledgeable about what it means to be held accountable that is taking full responsibility for each individual’s actions. This is why it is best to exhibit due diligence, which means to put forth a best effort at all times. It is best to persevere in life situations or in the workplace. The team also realizes that exhibiting discipline is the key to maintaining any value. “Values are what motivate and sustain behavior over the long run” (Dilenschneider, 2013, p. 3).
Alignment Between Values, Actions and Behavior Team B’s values are important to the way of life on a personal level, educational level, and a professional level. Team B continues to value University of Phoenix and what there is to offer, while also making time for other values in life. This is not the first time the Team works together as a group. The organization is there, and we do not take for granted what we are doing here. Taking time to value our education allows us to behave professional and get the work done on time and accurately. It is important to us to follow all guidelines, whether it is a syllabus for class or an APA guideline. When something happens during class, we have to figure out what is best for us and the team. Some things may come up to where someone has to miss a portion we work as a team and do the best we can to make sure the assignment is covered. With the values we have as long as there is warning, there is no harm in covering for someone. It is important to be truthful while working. Knowing how to deal with the truth helps handle situations that may arise. The values that we possess control our actions and behaviors. Team B is not perfect; however, the team will continue to grow for success.
Organizational Values, Plans and Actions The stated values of an organization are very important. These stated values lay the ground work for the conduct of the organization. More important than simply stating those values is the organizations commitment to conducting themselves accordingly. In the case of Dell, we have illustrated that honesty; trustworthiness, respect, courage, and a strong sense of responsibility are core values. Dell also believes that following these published values is as important as making them known. “To safeguard our reputation and our brand, we hold ourselves to standards of ethical behavior that go well beyond legal minimums.” (n.a., 2013, p. 1). Dell’s Governance is evident that commitment to integrity is very important. “We accept the consequences of our actions. We admit our mistakes and quickly correct them. We don't retaliate against those who try to do the right thing by asking questions or raising concerns.” (n.a., 2013, p. 1). This quote is part of the guidelines Dell has set forth for their employees. This type of assurance of open door policy to employees is indicative of their commitment to integrity.
Degree of Alignment Learning Team B believes in a perception that the activities and conduct of both men and women are dependent on the way they were raised and the inheritance of those actions learned while growing up. These behaviors shaped throughout our lives deal with objectivity, reliability, character, and dreams that must advance and move forward within life and in careers. The ideals of Dell are a major impact and crucial to the business purpose of the organization. The values that Dell stand on and believe are a “fundamental component of our culture of integrity here at Dell, has been extensively revised and updated to bring it into alignment with our purpose and values, as well as with our business, brand and people strategies” (n.a., 2013, p. 1). The principles that Dell believe in are; • Honesty • Trustworthiness • Treat others with respect • Use of good judgment • Responsible Dell views their employees as teammates and is a huge impact in the way customers are treated and helped during their experience with Dell. The atmosphere at Dell is healthy and favorable for their staff, and this is reflected in the way that there long lasting relationships between Dell and their customers have developed into a profitable business. To help clients with the best value, Team B members rely on developing a good work atmosphere in the office, and provide only the best client relationships through regular interaction.
Conclusion
Core values are very crucial tools that connect to the survivorship of an employee’s position in the workplace. Team B analyzed the individual values and Dell’s values as reflected by Dell’s organizational plans and actions. The team also described each one’s own evolution of personal and workplace values. An explanation was given to show how individual values drive Team B’s actions and behavior, and analyzed the alignment between the Team’s alignment, their values, actions and behavior. A description of the degree of alignment between Dell’s stated values, actual plans, and actions are provided. An explanation is also submitted in an effort to show the difference, and analyze the degree of alignment between the Team’s values and Dell’s values as reflected by Dell’s plans and actions.
