Introduction (page 18)
What key issues are motivating you to plan?
The first issue that is driving me to plan a more sustainable business is a quote from a reading that I found very interesting “You cannot change what you do not measure”. This had an impact on me because throughout my life I have never thought about being sustainable or thinking about my carbon footprint or the footprint that my company is leaving behind. Although things seem small we I do not know the impact without measurement. Although any change may not be significant at first it is definitely a step in the right direction. Another key driver is the idea of leaving behind something better, I want to know that I did my best to try and preserve the beautiful earth and eliminate unnecessary chemicals and pollutants so future generations can live happily.
Who is your business planning team? Who should be involved in your planning process?
As of right now my business planning team is my group, which consist of Taylor, Sammi, and Alex. During out meeting we have bounced ideas off one another and really believe that they can be very beneficial and influential down the road when some more serious planning takes place. I will probably also have my Dad and Grandpa involved since I am trying to make our family business more sustainable and they are obviously very knowledgeable about the budget and equipment where I lack some knowledge.
How will you use your business plan?
I am planning on presenting my business plan and ideas to my Dad when it is complete. My plan is to make his business more sustainable in hopes he will seriously consider some of my ideas, and put some of them (or all of them) into practice.

My Values (1.1)
Personal Values
My personal values include trust, friendship, integrity, ambition, accuracy/attention to detail, compassion, and competence. I feel like these fit along with the readings because they are talking about making the world a better place and all of what I value and makes up the person who I am today drive me to make me want a better world. For instance competence just know about the Upcycle and how you can upcycle almost anything.
Economic Values
My main economic value is profitability, and from what we learned in class you actually make more money by going green and upcycling. The USPS is an example of that. Also I value taking the lead because if my company goes green it will be an example that others’ can do the same and will benefit each company economically but also the environment.
Environmental
What I value most is being mindful of the resources I use. That every time I switch on a light switch which is so easy for me to do there are valuable resources being used that I never think about especially when I leave the lights on for no reason.

Community
I have never really thought about my community values before and while reading the readings I wasn’t really thinking about community values, but if I would value something for a community it would be charity and giving back.

Common Values (1.2)
Values identified by individual planning members?
The values that my team members mentioned were family, conscientious, frugal with costs and resources, social tolerance, inclusion, and respecting privacy.
Values that we share as a planning team? Taylor, Alex, Sammi, share most of the same values. We all think that it is very important to value trust. We had a conversation about trust, in the ways that it is basically essential to the sustainability movement because CEO and head corporate people need to trust their sustainability workers that the plan of action is truly going to work and make money. Which leads me to another common value we all shared is that we want to be successful in terms of being profitable. We all also realize that we need to be mindful of the resources are consuming every day especially the scarce ones. It will be very beneficial that we all share common values while we are helping each other plan one another businesses so we hopefully don’t run into any moral arguments along the way!

Values

...Values those are most important to me. Values are something that is important in life. Values can’t be exchanged in any way or form. Everyone has something that they value and of course that includes me as well. A value is something that a specific person or groups respects and affectively regards it as something important in their life. An example would be my values, I, personally, have many values. Some of my most important values consist of my family, my ethnicity and my memories. Something that I value the most would be my family. Family means a lot for me because no matter what happens, my family would always be there for me. Life would be really different if I didn’t have the family that I have now. In my family, I am taught that no matter what difficulties I have to face, my family would always be there and support me. They taught me many things about life that I would take with me for the rest of my life. No matter how many good friends you have, they will never be there for you forever, but family will always be there for you. Not everyone has a perfect family; therefore, I must appreciate what I have now because not everyone is as lucky as me to have a family that cares for each other through out all the different circumstances. Another very important value of mine would be my ethnicity. Ethnicity is very important for it describes me. Due to the fact that I am born Asian American, I was brought up to what I am today. ...Every person on this planet, no matter how young or how old, has values. Some have very high values, and some have very low values but in the end we all a mindset of beliefs that we know and feel in our heart to be true. Children see the world through clean, pure, and a simple mindset. There value system is quite different from an adults values. Imagine if everyone looked at the world and everything around us like children did. This world would be a very different place if that happened. Unfortunately not everyone can see as clearly as children do and many children aren’t seeing as clearly as they should be because of how quickly everything around them is shifting. This would is changing very rapidly. Peoples values are not as high as they used to be 20 years ago. In todays world everything is okay. It is almost like right and wrong have been thrown out the window. Children are very confused as to what right and wrong is because the school system and society teach them that they need to decide for themselves what right and wrong is. We need to look back at what the true meaning of values and not just decide for ourselves what right and wrong is. History can show us what has worked in the past and how we can apply it to our lives today. If we look back 15, 20, or even 30 years ago we can see how different our world has become. Change is a good thing but not always. People didn’t accept everything as okay in their culture 30 years ago. When a couple wasn’t married...

...which combine internal analysis of the company and external analysis of the competitive markets and their industries. Resource based view (RBV) of the companies does not replace previous strategic frameworks, on the contrary, it extends them to explain why some companies are more profitable than others (Collins and Montgomery, 2008). To make resource valuable to a company or an organisation, it has to be rare, difficult to replicate and it needs to create value (Schmidt and Keil, 2013). Such resources have the potential to become a source of sustainable competitive advantage (Talaja, 2012). Resources are classed as either tangible (unique products, plants, machinery) or intangible (brands, patents, knowledge) and they provide a unique collection of competencies and capabilities – how company uses its resources – which a company can exploit to gain competitive advantage (Omerzev and Gulev, 2011). Knowledge economy holds that the competitive advantage is based on managing non-material resources with a key role in creating value. These non-material resources are people and their potential (Durkanovic and Przulj, 2010) who proactively grant a competitive advantage to a company through development of unique capabilities and knowledge (Čater and Čater, 2009). Resource analysis for competitive advantage By analysing CbyD Ltd’s (CBDL) structure and vision against the market environment it is possible to ascertain that CBDL differentiates from the competitors in their approach to the...

Values

...living. The word value comes from middle English, from middle French, from (assumed) vulgar Latin valuta, from feminine of valutus, past participle of Latin valEre to be worth, be strong (Merriam – Webster 2003). In my interpretation meaning that values are ideas and ways of thinking that we feel are of worth and strong to us. Values play an important role in ones life, they govern how we eat, socialize, work and sleep they. Values are believed to have originated during the cave man times different clans had a developed a certain culture of how to interact with each other what was appropriate and what was not. For example it was not appropriate to take another families meat without there consent. Throughout time values have been a huge topic among sociologists and philosophers. Many people think that values a necessary for survival that all humans will die without values. Others believe that if you took away all values that humans would live more adventurous lives, never having to worry about what others think. My opinion is that values are necessary for human survival, if we did not hold any values that we would see the end to human existence. My experience has showed me that values have a relation to ethics and morals as well. Morals are modes of conduct that relate to how we interact with other people. And ethics are a manner of deciding what is good and bad. One of the most important characteristics of more judgments I that they express our values (Cline 2003). According...

Their users typically pay for them, and in exchange are generally provided with benefits involving enjoyment. Today’s research on technology adoption and use, though, has focused mostly on organizational or personal aids that provide efficiency and effectiveness and are free of charge for users. To bridge this gap, we identified several value drivers of hedonic digital artifacts and measured them in the context of mobile phone ringtones using the theory of consumption values. Hypothesis testing was performed using PLS on data collected from 422 ringtone users. Results confirmed that the overall value of hedonic digital artifacts is a third-order composite assessment, which successfully predicted behavioral...

I believed individual differences, and we have different “plane” from different airport. My goal in life is to live my values with integrity and consciously use my values in decision making towards my action, to discover which path I take because values will guide us on how to spend our time, because time will not renew itself once we spend a day, its gone forever, we waste that day by investing our time in action that don’t produce the result we want and that loss is permanent. We earn money, improve our physical bodies, and repair broken relationship, but we cannot redo yesterday, values will guide our priorities. We appear to be mortal with limited life span. Social Value

...SOCIAL VALUE What do we mean by measuring social value? Over the last twenty years there has been increasing importance attached to measuring the social value and social impact that various organisations create. The demand for measuring this value comes from all sides: funders who want to direct their money to the most effective projects, policy makers and government officials have to account for their spending decisions, and social organisations need to demonstrate their impact to funders, partners and beneficiaries1. This has led to a growing interest in terms such as „value for money‟, „value added‟ and „outcomes‟ as ways to measure a organisations performance. In many ways the distinction between „output‟ and „outcomes‟ encapsulates what is meant by measuring social value. Outputs: These are the activities done by an organisation, usually listed in an action plan or set of objectives. For example providing homeless people with food and shelter or organising a conference to discuss long term care services for the elderly. Outcomes: These are the long term observed effects of the outputs and are often the „real‟ changes that organisations are trying to make. For example homeless people no longer living on the street and now in employment is an outcome. Likewise a new policy implemented by a government or a new project that improves the quality of long term care for elderly people is an outcome. Unfortunately there is no single authoritative definition of „social value‟ but we...

Values and Ethics

...I am participating in Deb from Home Life Simplified‘s 52 Weeks to Simplify Your Life Challenge. Week 2 asks participants to identify their core values and list their top 5 in order of importance. Here is Deb’s post to explain in greater detail the aim of this week’s task. I think many of us would struggle with this task as it is, frankly, confronting to recognise and share those values at the heart of who you are. I know I have wrestled with it, trying to whittle down my values and summoning the courage to explain them and share them here. After much deliberation I have come up with the following core values that I think are the most important to me right now. I could have picked many more but I think these 5 are at the core of who I am. 1. Honesty I value honesty above everything. At the basest level I can’t handle dishonesty and I find it hard to even cope with dishonesty from my kids – nothing riles me up more than when they try to lie to me to cover up something! Accordingly, I try to be as honest as I can with everyone else. Anytime I am at all dishonest, I feel sick to the stomach, even if it is the most minor of things. I think I value honesty so much because it goes hand in hand with trust and trust is vital to any relationship, isn’t it? On a deeper level I want to be more honest with myself and with my feelings and with my desires. Sometimes I’m not completely honest with myself when it comes to acknowledging my own reactions to other people or situations...
