Literature Review
In ever changing healthcare, there have been some remarkable innovations in the medical field. Technological advances and scientific researches will continue to find solutions to the health problems of the people. Though, “prevention is better than cure”. To prevent disease in the healthcare needs a wide range of consistent programs, actions and activities. Recognizing the health problems and evolving healthy life style is vital for people in our era and platform. Furthermore, the global economy is straining by increasing healthcare expenses. Thus, health promotion is the only way to reduce health incidence (occurrence of new cases) of definite diseases such as obesity, autism, heart disease, diabetes, lung cancer and many more. Some are focused efforts of public health professionals and agencies, such as the National Institutes of Health (NIH) office of Disease Prevention, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the American Cancer Society, (Prevention of Disease (2011, ¶ 1 to 3). The effectiveness of global and local disease prevention programs depend mostly on individuals on how they take their personal responsibilities by avoiding tobacco use, substance abuse, and unsafe sex. All health problems start as a small issues than and develops into major illnesses. Many of these problems/ illnesses/ diseases can be prevented with adequate education at individual, institutional and community levels, (Prevention of Disease (2011, ¶ 1 to 3). Nurses play a major role in promoting health education to decrease the cost of health care and to advance disease prevention. Well-defined three levels of prevention such as; primary, secondary, and tertiary. (Edelman & Mandle, (2010, p. 14 to 19).
Prevention of Disease - Primary Prevention
Health education is the significant to the primary prevention and inhibiting the development of disease before it occurs. Primary prevention measures identify symptoms of illness and techniques to reduce risks that come through health education. Health promotion includes preventing diseases and disability is part of secondary because a problem has already been identified, such as immunizations, healthy diet and lifestyles such as regular exercise and rest to prevent heart diseases. Limited exposure to sunlight and wearing protective clothing to prevent skin cancer. Furthermore, primary prevention of mental health problems includes methods to reinforce family and community support systems explain how mental problems are prevented in primary prevention. Health promotion also includes educating children at wellness in terms of stress management, communication and interpersonal skills, conflict management, as well as parenting classes and retirement preparation,( Prevention of Disease - Primary Prevention , (2011,¶ 1 to 4).
Prevention of Disease - Secondary Prevention
In spite of the well-informed preventive measures, people may develop a disease that affects their healthy life style. The main aim of secondary prevention is to recognize and distinguish disease in its earliest levels, before obvious development of the illness into a chronic stage. Secondary preventive measures detect early diagnosis and may be possible to cure a disease, minimal complications and limits disability. Nurses play an important role in secondary prevention by providing education to patients on health promotion in a variety of settings such as hospital, medical offices, clinics, and health fairs, modifying dietary habits as necessary, consistent exercise regime, and regular health checkups. These are some of the significant steps to stop encouraging diseases from developing into chronic stages such as; Diabetes Mellitus, Hypertension, and Transient ischemic attack (TIA). Depending on the stages of disease and ability of patients learning, nurses can change education plan to meet their requirement. To intervene any preventive measures are anticipated to prevent additional or advance attacks, (Prevention of Disease - Secondary Prevention, (2011, ¶ 1 to 5).
Prevention of Disease - Tertiary Prevention
Even though "primary" and "secondary preventive" measures are planned for health promotion and reduce some of the illnesses or the disabilities, some of the people still may lose their motivation towards life which leads worsening of their health. The main goal of tertiary prevention is to improve the quality of life for people with various illnesses and disabilities. During tertiary prevention nurses focus on rehabilitation strategies to help patients learn how to manage their limiting complications, decrease the severity and progress of the disease. Nurses are responsible to ensure that patients are positively reinforced with knowledge about possible health problems and uses of preventive measures such as, patients with Stroke and diabetes. In such situation nurses encourage and advise patient on ways to use of residual abilities, physical therapy and rehabilitation placement to return to independent level of work, (Prevention of Disease - Tertiary Prevention, (2011,¶1 to 2).
Purpose of Health Promotion
The main purpose of health promotion is responsibilities of nurses to educate patients and community based on their current health condition. “Health promotion is the process of enabling people to increase control over, and to improve, their health”, (World Health Organization, [WHO], 2011, ¶ 1). The benefit of health promotion is that nurses need to support positive impact in the long term and short term ways of implementing, evaluating and refining the effect on prevention and promotion of activities on health problems. Health promotion is the art and science which supports a patient or an individual to recognize the difference of the optimal health and primary passion to strive towards the state of health. Health promotion assists to manage optimal health by changing the lifestyle and benefit to attain balance in physical, mental, social, spiritual and intellectual health, (O’Donnell, 2011, ¶ 3).
Roles & Responsibilities of a Nurse
Care givers/care providers
As a role of direct caregivers; nurse functions as a nurturer, comforter and provider for the patient welfare with sensitivity and are/is concern about patients comfort with knowledge. This is the primary part of the nursing practice. Nurses provide direct care in terms of administration; medication, health education, assessment and counseling to patients.
Teacher or educator
As a teacher nurse provides education that benefits patients to learn and obtain new awareness and methodical skills to promote a healthy lifestyle. Educate patients on hygiene, nutrition, safety, and immunization against some diseases that may occur in the future.
Advocate
Nurse act as a patient’s advocate to provide adequate care to patients at a reasonable cost. Provide necessary care advice on the appropriate treatment through individual and family assessment.
Case manager
Nurses provide information based reliable sources in order to facilitate health and cost effective care by preventing the duplication of procedures therefore reducing healthcare costs. Case manager makes assessment, coordinates activities of patients care with resources and evaluate care as well.

Counselor or consultant
Helps patients to identify and manage their stressful situation thru knowledge and experience. An experienced nurse can be an outstanding counselor or consultant to the patient to improve interpersonal relationship to promote personal health and growth.
Researcher
Nurses need to make evidence- based research in their practice by participating in scientific investigation to the benefit of the patients. Scientific growth is making a steady progress in the health care and nurses are required to be up -to -date knowledge in order to protecting the rights of human, in this case, patients, (Roles & Responsibilities of a Nurse, 2011, ¶ 1 to 7).
Methods Nursing Implementation
Nursing implementation is recognized as an integral component of professional nursing practice to ensure that the patient receives high quality, appropriate, and cost effective care. Information is gathered from internet resources provided by approved by the federal agencies such as; nursingworld.org, www.cdc.gov, and www.americancancer.org among many other organizations. Nurses consult the multi-disciplinary team members as needed for health promotion. Example: Dietician is consulted to provide appropriate education on a healthy diet for prevention of obesity and management of diabetes, heart disease and promoting healthy eating habits. Consulting physical therapist or pharmacist as a core role of the nurse is to deliver direct services and education to the patient according to their needs to restore their ability for independence. Nurses also play a significant role in implementing health promotion by preventing communicable disease by engaging in communication to determine various aspects of patient’s life in the family, and in the society, (Edelman, & Mandle, 2010).

Comparison of levels of prevention
It is very useful in primary, secondary and tertiary levels of preventive measure in developing of the disease at different levels. Primary prevention is the best and ideal method for a healthy life. This method can be used at school level as a part of health promotion such as; immunization and enhancement of awareness in the society to live a better life. Secondary prevention contributes to significant improvement in the life style while prevention of clinical illness through initial and asymptomatic recognition of diseases and conditions. Tertiary prevention plays a significant role in prevention of progression of disease and further complications. Prevention preserves life and making best out of residual capabilities of the patient. Furthermore, all three levels of care play a very vital role at the level of health promotion based on stages of the patient’s diseases and conditions, (Disease Prevention, 2011, ¶ 1 to 5).
Conclusion
Advancing fast life, growing work demands, and stressful life situations put lots of pressure on people’s life. Majority of the people depends on fast foods that have adverse influences on the health, keeping in mind that high cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes are major concerns in the community which leads to obesity. Nurses are required to enhance their knowledge, competent with critical thinking, and compassionate while providing patients’ care to improve health promotion. Nurse’s responsibility and role have evolved due to vastly changing in health condition among people. Most of the time people delay treatment because of lack of knowledge, associated cost of treatment or cultural practices. People with less knowledge make wrong decisions. Health promotions through early detection and prevention will enhance healthy living and decrease stress hence preserving people’s life. Nurses are the prime source of health promotion with the knowledge to preserve healthy communities by providing primary, secondary and tertiary education, (Disease Prevention, 2011, ¶ 1 to 13).

The acronym VARK stands for Visual, Aural/Auditory, Read/Write and Kinesthetic sensory modalities that help an individual discover their own learning preference. Neil Fleming and Mills created the VARK learning system in 1992, which includes questionnaire that allow people to choose multiple answers and assessment tool will evaluate the person best learning skills (Neil Fleming). Why is it important for an individual to understand their own learning style? Understanding and knowing learning style can help student be more effective, perform better on tests, learn information quickly and mostly likely to be successful. Various learners prefer various methods of learning, some prefer visual learning, while some choose to read textbooks and others prefer to take notes to learn.
