Learning style is different for each individual, it’s mainly depends on personal preference, age, and education, more than that, every one learn and process information in distinct way. Knowing our own method of learning style is crucial, for the better learning process according to the individual preferences. The VARK learning system basically evaluate the four major learning categories of preferences, that includes visual, aural, read/write and kinesthetic. The theory of style of learning is purely based on the idea that different group of people learn in different approach and technique .Especially each person has mix of learning style, some of them dominate in one style of learn ,on the other hand some people use different style in diverse circumstances. However, according to Dunn and Dunn (1993), learning style is a style through which each person start focusing on, processing, absorbing, and retaining the new and complex information. VARK learning evaluation tool is the worldwide accepted measurement for students and educationalists to measure their strength and weakness’ of their individual learning strategies.
VARK LEARING STYLE OF THE WRITER.
The VARK questionnaire ask bunch of questions to determine the preferred style or mode of learning preference of the author, also evaluate the application of four learning modalities in the learning process. According to the assessment tool, the writer has multimodal learning preferences, with Visual score -7, Aural-10, Read/Wrtie-12, Kinestehetic-8.Multiple modalities actually helps everyone to learn in different ways in which they feel more secure, also stimulating them to experience and learn other modes as well. In this new era of technology learning can by influenced by multifactorial components including the mass media and new generation technology. According to the statistics 60% prefers the multimodal

...Personal Learning Style According to VARK Angel L. Messing Grand Canyon University: Family Centered Health Promotion 06/02/2013 The VARK learning styles theory was developed in 1987 by a teacher from New Zealand. Neil Fleming took the pervious learning model and divided the visual learning style into two distinct areas, the first being visual and the second reading. This eventually developed into VARK; visual, aural, reading, and kinesthetic learning. There is also a fifth mode, the multimodal preference. Using the VARK questionnaire one can identify which style best suites their learning preferences, and develop strategies to become better learners. In completing the VARK questionnaire this author, Angel Messing found that the multimodal best suited her learning preferences; visual, reading, and kinesthetic all make up the multimodal learning style that suites her preferred learning needs. Multimodal Learning Approximately 60% of the population that has used the VARK questionnaire are found to have multimodal learning preferences. People who find themselves in this group may have two or more preference areas that suite their learning style the best. This group of people can then be broken down into two subgroups, VARK type one and VARK type two. VARK type one Usually this group will have almost equal score in anywhere from two to four of the modes, and tend to be more flexible with their learning styles. Depending on the situation and the required learning...

...VARK Analysis VARK learning style is one of the most useful and widely used learning styles that was designed and developed by Neil Fleming in 1987. It was designed to assist learners about their learning preferences and describe how learners can gather, and interpret in order to organize and retain all information for future use (Chick, 2014). Learners are identified by what their preferences upon taking the VARK questionnaire; it includes visual leaning (diagram, picture), auditory learning (discussion, lectures), reading and writing (taking notes, making list, reading instruction), and kinesthetic learning (hands-om, experiment, activities). Visual learners often learn best by visualize information such as maps, diagrams, signs, symbols, handouts, and video. All of these learning tools are used as to retrieve and retain information in a visual rather than the written instruction. Auditory learners learn best on hearing the information, for examples, words, lectures, group discussion. Most of auditory learners are great listener and be able to remember what they were told (Cherry, 2014). Reading and writing learners prefer to learn by reading and/or taking notes from information that represented as words or handouts. This type of learner often use and find that dictionaries, written instruction, or quotations work best for them. Kinesthetic learners or tactile learners often learn best by doing hands-on, and enjoy learning by involving directly with objects and materials...

...Running Head: A VARK Analysis A VARK Analysis of One Student’s Learning Style LorieAnn T Dailey Grand Canyon University: NRS-429v April 22, 2012 A VARK Analysis of One Student’s Learning Style This paper will discuss Fleming and Bonwell’s VARK analysis of learning styles. (2002). It will also discuss the results from this student’s use of the VARK instrument and will compare those results to this student’s own observations about her preferred learning styles or methods. Next, this paper will discuss possible changes this student could make in her learning methods that might tend to make her a more successful student in view of her results on VARK questionnaire. Finally, this paper will briefly address the analysis of this student’s learning style in the specific context of e-learning or distance learning. VARK, an acronym for Visual, Aural, Read/write, and Kinesthetic, is a system developed in its current form by Neil Fleming which uses a sixteen-question instrument to evaluate a part of student’s learning styles. (Fleming & Bonwell, 2002, FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)). While VARK is commonly referred to as an analysis of learning styles, that is technically inaccurate. While “learning style”, as the term is generally understood, refers to several different factors such as working with others vs. working alone, physical conditions of the learning environment, and even biorhythms, VARK analyzes only one aspect of learning styles: the way a student receives...

...Learning Strategies Learning Strategies This paper will discuss the “VARK, a guide to learning styles” (VARK, 2015). One subject who took the “VARK Questionnaire, How Do I Learn Best?” learned the results were Aural and Kinesthetic “AK”, a multimodal learning style preference. The subject’s preferred learning strategies were compared and found to be compatible with the VARK learning style strategies. Using VARK as a tool can give an instructor awareness of the individual’s learning style. This aids the instructor in developing strategies that will accommodate and influence the individual’s learning style. The subject that took the sixteen part VARK questionnaire chose to answer some categories with one selection and others with two or more selections. The questionnaire concluded the subject’s scores were Visual “V”-3, Aural/Auditory “A”-11, Read/Write “R”-5 and Kinesthetic “K”-9 resulting in a multimodal “AK” learning preference. This individual’s learning style mixes “A” and “K” modalities where they have the ability to switch between them, allowing the individual to adapt to the learning strategy. VARK defines four sensory modalities that are used for learning (VARK, 2015). The “V” modality uses graphics such as maps, charts, diagrams and symbols instead of words to represent the information they are trying to learn. “A” modality prefers information that can be heard or spoken. This represents a traditional classroom type providing lectures, open group discussions, webinars...

...VARK Analysis: Learning Styles and Strategies Grand Canyon University: NRS-429V VARK Analysis: Learning Styles and Strategies A learning style is one’s distinctive method of learning depending on his/her strengths, weaknesses and choices. People are more receptive to learning through different modalities. Some people learn better through visual aids or listening. Others gain more knowledge through reading and writing or using more of a hands-on approach. Use of any of these methods will facilitate learning if it is your preferred learning style. VARK, which is an acronym for Visual, Aural, Read/Write and Kinesthetic, “is a questionnaire that helps your learning by suggesting the strategies you should be using” (Fleming, 2011). The VARK questionnaire asks a series of 16 multiple choice questions that you may answer with more than one choice. Upon completion of the questionnaire, a scoring chart is used to find the VARK category that each of your answers matches with. The score is then calculated by counting the amount of each of the VARK letters. The category with the highest score is the preferred learning style. Not one learning styles is better than the other. It is simply an individual preference that works best for different people. This paper will discuss the different styles of learning, including the preferred learning style and strategies, and how the awareness of one’s learning styles, preferences and strategies influence teaching and learning. When an Individual takes the VARK questionnaire assessment, they will be scored under these four learning methods: visual aural, read/write, and kinesthetic. Each individual learning method are different, also it could be situational to the subject, environment and subject approach. After conducting VARK questionnaire, the results show my learning preference is multimodal. And according to VARK, if you have multiple preferences you are in the majority, as approximately 60% of any population fits that category (please use citation from VARK Multimodal study strategy_). My learning method scores are, visual 11, aural 11, read/write 13, and kinesthetic 11. Multimodal individuals’ shift their learning preferences depend up on matter of subject or certainty of subject. Changing learning preference according to the situation is significant to multimodal learners. According to VARK questionnaire Designer Neil D Fleming, there are two groups...

...The VARK Questionnaire: How Do I Learn Best? Preferred Learning Style and Strategies Prior to the Visual, aural, read/writing, kinesthetic assessment my preference for learning has always been visual combine with hands on learning. This involves being able to apply what is being taught whether that be with past life experiences, seeing a demonstration or use of graphs, displays, etc. My memory works to its fullest potential with being able to refer to a physical idea and remember what was seen. Rather than reading alone, my preference for learning from graphs, videos or statistics is great. For example learning for me is enhanced if objects are used during a demonstration. According to VARK my preferred learning styles is multimodal and mild kinesthetic, a score of 6 for visual, 1 for aural, 2 for reading/writing and an 8 for kinesthetic. Multimodal means learning from multiples sources in various forms to solidify understanding. Since kinesthetic is my strongest learning preference. Recommended strategies include using all senses (sight, touch, taste, smell, hearing, hands on trips/tours/exhibits/samples, use of real life examples, photographs, trial and error, collection of objects and referring to previous papers/exams and prior solutions to problems. Additional strategies include case studies, utilizing other “k” people, recalling, even going back to a physical place or the use of “real” things that have occurred. How are you going to present your teaching encompassing the fact that everyone’s learning styles are different? The key is knowing how you, yourself learns and studying all of the other key aspects of learning styles to be able to incorporate them in your teaching and provide the best understanding of the topic to multiple different types of learners. For example, after taking the VARK questionnaire, this learner, is identified as a kinesthetic learner. A Kinesthetic learner is one “who uses your experiences and the things that are real even when they are shown in pictures and on screens.” (The VARK Questionnaire: How Do I Learn Best, 2015.) Let’s explore this style in further detail, compare preferred learning strategies to the identified strategies for this learner’s preferred learning style and discuss how the awareness of these affects teaching and learning. For purposes of this paper, the learner, is the author. In summary, a kinesthetic learner is one who likes to use a hands-on approach to learning, is often good in math and science, would rather demonstrate how to do something rather than write...

...VARK: One or all Sylvia Villanueva Grand Canyon University Family Centered Health Promotion Nursing 429V Dr. Rhonda Johnston January 7, 2016 Vark: One or all “Do you know how you learn?” This is the first sentence on a website that introduces the reader to a way of classifying ways of learning. According to this site, Vark-learn.com (2016), although we have known for centuries about different learning modes, the VARK questionnaire developed in 1987 by Dr. Neil Fleming from New Zealand, was the first to present a series of questions that classified individuals to learning modalities. This classifications came with help sheets for individuals to use in their own way or style of learning. Today this system is still used by high schools, colleges and business to help enhance learning and teaching experiences. These sheets are divided into four groups. Their classifications are: Visual, Aural, Read/Write, and Kinesthetic strategies. The acronym VARK comes from the four divisions. Classification sheets, also referred as help sheets by the VARK website, discuss strategies that help enhance the taking in of information, strategies that make studying or learning more effective, and tips on how to perform well on examinations. But the truth is not as simple as to classifying individuals to just one learning modality. In fact about 35% of individuals use a four-part multimodal approach, and sometimes may switch to a single preferred mode that fits the situation (VARK personal...

...own strengths and weaknesses to the individual learner. It is vital for a successful student to be able to hone in on which style, or styles, work best for them. Many different learning style models have been created throughout the years but this paper will focus on the VARK, (visual, aural, read-write, kinesthetic) system. This article will review the learning style for student X, summarize their learning style, preferred learning strategies, awareness of individual learning styles, and lastly preferences and strategies that influence teaching and learning. Summary of Learning Styles The VARK website has a 16 item quiz, which produces an analysis of which learning styles may be best suited for that particular person. Upon completion of the VARK learning assessment tool, student X generated the following scores: visual 6, aural 12, read-write 6, and kinesthetic 10. The highest of score of the four being 12 for aural. This means by the VARK definition that hearing information appeals most to the student. The second highest scoring item was kinesthetic at 10 meaning doing or performing skills appealed secondly. Student X scored 6 on both read-write and visual valuing these two elements equally. According the VARK system, the multimodal definition applies because read-write and visual are equal and being that these items have a synergistic value. Preferred Learning Strategies According to student X, listening to lectures and speaking with others is...

...Grand Canyon University VARK NRS-429V 2013 VARK VARK is a questionnaire utilizing 16 questions to assist in determining an individual’s learning preferences profile. Neil Fleming created the questionnaire in 1987. It was the first of its kind with helpsheets that provide learning strategies for the users. The learning preferences identified indicate the ways an individual prefers to receive and disseminate information. “It has helped people understand each other and assists them to learn more effectively in many situations.” (http://www.vark-learn.com). Today, over 1 million people take the questionnaire annually (http://www.vark-learn.com). Some have questions regarding the validity of the questionnaire as it does have its limitations. For instance, since it is a multiple-choice questionnaire simulating decision-making using several preferences, it is difficult to statistically analyze. Also, “VARK has little to say about personality, motivation, social preferences, physical environments, or introversion-extraversion” (http://www.vark-learn.com). It is skewed by those who enjoy answering questions on-line. Despite the above information, a study conducted by “Dr. Walter Leite from the Research and Evaluation Methodology program at the University of Florida” found that its reliability was adequate (http://www.vark-learn.com). Reports of self-perception also support the accuracy of VARK (http://www.vark-learn.com). VARK stands for visual, aural, read/write, and...

Why is it important for an individual to understand their own learning style? Understanding and knowing learning style can help student be more effective, perform better on tests, learn information quickly and mostly likely to be successful. Various learners prefer various methods of learning, some prefer visual learning, while some choose to read textbooks and others prefer to take notes to learn. This paper will be focusing on more about preferred learning strategies and compare these strategies with identified strategies and lastly conclude with evaluating the modifications necessary for better studying habits. VARK focusses on four categories (Visual, Aural/Auditory, Read/Write and Kinesthetic) that reveal the understandings of student. Visual preferences are illustration of information in the form of diagrams, images, graph, map etc. that professor use to represent information than using words. ...learn is the VARK (2011) analysis. This test will help determine the best way for a student to learn, by helping a person understand their learning style. This writer’s style is multimodal. Fleming 2011 found that 60 percent of the populist learns the same way as this writer (Fleming, 2011,). This way of learning incorporates several types of learning styles (Fleming, 2011). People who are visual learn from looking at pictures, graphs, books, and highlight important information in their books. Lectures are important for people who are audial. Hearing information again by reading out loud is important to these people and helps them to retain it. Handouts, books, or other information is invaluable to reading/writing learners. Kinesthetic or sensory learners need to touch or do the task in order to learn it (Fleming, 2011,). The multimodal learners use a combination of all learning styles to learn something new. Such as reading, sensory, and visual combined to learn. Writer’s Learning Style Multimodal learning was the style found when taking the VARK (2011) test. Different modalities are needed for this learner to gain knowledge and understanding of the skill and instructions needed. The highest scores in the categories of reading/writing, visual, and auditory is what this learner needs to synthesize and utilize new skills. So giving this writer a handout, and then a demonstration are the best ways to help with a new task. The knowledge gained by taking the VARK (2011) test...

Neil Fleming designed this questionnaire so the people can come to understand their learning styles (Fleming, 2001-2011). This is a way of testing to see an individual’s behavior in learning. It is a preference to a particular learning style and how one encounters study habits. Nelly took the sixteen questioner to see if her preference of learning strategies coincide with what was identified strategies by the VARK questionnaire. The personal learning profile score results were: Visual-7, Aural- 12, Read/Write-10, Kinesthetic -11. Vark Learning Style There are four different styles that VARK composed. In each it has its own meaning and technique in learning strategies. Depending on the individual, it forms a sense of communication to the brain to intake information to comprehend things better.
