Definition of:VGA(1) (Video Graphics Array) For compatibility with earlier monitors and data projectors, laptop computers often include a VGA port, which was widely used on PCs (see definition #2 below).

VGA on a Laptop
A VGA socket (middle) is commonly found on Windows-based laptops and entry-level PCs. Macs use only DisplayPort (left) and Mini DisplayPort sockets (see DisplayPort).
(2) (Video Graphics Array) An analog interface between a computer and monitor that was widely used prior to the DVI standard. Older CRTs used VGA, and flat LCD panels typically have both analog VGA and digital DVI. However, newer PCs may have only DVI or DisplayPort outputs. See flat panel display, DVI and DisplayPort.

VGA Is Base Level
VGA officially refers to only 640x480 pixels with 16 or 256 colors. This base resolution is used to boot the PC and also troubleshoot the computer in Safe Mode with the display driver disabled (in case the driver is the cause of the problem).

VGA History
VGA was introduced on IBM's PS/2 line in 1987 and quickly replaced the earlier digital CGA and EGA interfaces, which had lower resolution and fewer colors. In a short time, non-IBM vendors boosted resolution and colors, calling them "Super VGA." IBM later introduced XGA with a 1024x768 resolution, and over the years, numerous resolutions were added that were fractions or multiples of the total number of pixels in VGA and XGA resolutions. See screen resolution and XGA.

The VGA Port (Socket)
Using D-sub sockets, VGA, serial and game ports were found on the back of early PCs. See D-sub connectors.

Screen Resolutions
Modern PC display adapters support a variety of SD and HD resolutions. This illustration compares the viewing area for several of them.

Port Expanders

...Makeba Dower Computer Structure and Logic Port Expander . By, definition on Wikipedia.com a port expander is considered a magician because it can be any device that exists or onboard port becomes two or more. It dwells inside and outside the pc allowing more than one device to connect to a single port a computer. There are two basic types internal and external; the internal is usually on the motherboard that is seen on the expansion plate of multiple ports, an external device plugs into the existing port and then has multiple places to connect. When not part of a computer system, these devices are commonly known as splitters. Types of ports that are available on expander hardware: USB, Ethernet, firewire,DB-25,Serial,VGA,DVI,SCSI,Audio,Video,Microphone,RS-422,SATA,SAS,SSD,Modbus Serial. SAS(Statistical Analysis System; not to be confused with SAP) is a software suite developed by SAS Institute for advanced analytics business intelligence, data management, and predictive analytics, RS-422 is a technical standard originated by Electronic Industries Alliances that specifies electrical characteristics of a digital signaling circuit. Differential signaling can transmit data at rates as high as 10Mb/s or may be sent on cables as longs as 15meters. SATA is the faster serial version of parallel ATA (PATA) interface. Both SATA and PATA are integrated drive electronics, which means the controller is in the drive, and only a simple circuit is required on the motherboard. USB......

...There are multiple types of Port Expanders including, but not limited to USB Expanders, HDMI Expanders, FireWire Expanders, and 15 Pin VGA Expanders. Port Expanders are used for the benefit of having multiple ports instead of being limited to only two or three. A Port Expander has Advantages, and disadvantages that a lot of people are not aware of for example, a advantage would be that you can connect multiple devices to benefit your need at the time, and the situation you are in. A disadvantage on the other hand is if you have too many ports plugged in at once your computer can start to run at a slower speed then you are accustomed to, and hinder your performance. Below are some pictures of the various ports. USB Port Expander HDMI Port Expander 15 Pin VGA Port Expander FireWire Port Expander There are also two basic types of port expanders, there is Internal which is not seen due to the fact that is inside of the motherboard, and the only part that you can see is the Expansion Plate, and that is where you can connect to only two or three USB ports. The external is when you connect the port expander, and get multiple ports that you can connect too. The big question with port expanders that a lot of people ask is that are there specific port expanders that you need to buy for your type of computer? And the answer is no port expanders are generic, and can be used for any type of computer you...

Port Expander

...Port Expander A port expander essentially allows one to become two. What I mean by that is it allows more than one device to connect to a single port. Expanders are equivalent to splitters or extension cords in everyday life. They are usually inside the computer on the motherboard, with the only visible part of it being the extension plate showing multiple ports. Some example of the type of ports that we’ve covered and that I’m familiar with are: Ethernet Port Firewire Port Serial Port VGA Port Audio/Video Ports SATA Port DVI Port USB Port DB-25 Port Microphone Port Port expanders are pretty generic, meaning that they’re compatible for almost any PC. There is not a specific expander made for the numerous number of computer brands on the market today. The advantages and disadvantages sort of go together when talking about port expanders. They do allow you to connect more devices at one time but it also slows those devices down. Depending if the port has a 3GBps or 6GBps, all the devices had to share that speed, rather than being used individually and using all of the particular speed for one device. In most cases, buying port expanders are more convenient than trying to find a computer that comes with that many ports for a decent price. The only true downside you could run into would be the amount of power you have available on your computer. There are only so many ports you can use at one time before you overload your computer. Once it......

Input Output Interfaces

...The Professor Messer video Input/output Interfaces ranging from Audio ports, Video ports, USB ports and the Serial port. In summary the video starts with talking about the Audio ports that are 3 and a half millimeter TRS plugs that have different colors that define them. However, these colors are not standard so it advices that we double check just to make sure the right plug is put in the right port. The Video ports follow next in the video. With these we look at the Analog type which had the VGA (Video Graphic Array) port also known as the DE-15. This one has been here forever. It’s a 15 pin connector with DE size. With the Video ports we also look at the Digital ports which include the DVI (Digital Video Interface). This one is able to support a lot of the video format both digital and analog. Video ports also include the HDMI port (High Definition Multimedia Interface). This one is the latest and is always digital. It’s able to support digital and to send audio as well. Most machines produced these days have this port. USB (Universal Serial Bus) are the other ports talked about. These are very common and may look similar at times but support different speeds. * USB 1.0 is the low speed interface, not common anymore but ran at 1 and half megabits per second. * USB 1.1 is known as the full speed USB port that runs at 12 megabits per second. * USB 2.0 is very common with a lot of machines today, it runs at a speed of 480 megabits per second and can used for...

... Dell Inspiron All-In-One I3043-5001BLK | 4 GB | 500 GB | 2.66 GHz | $509.99 | Intel Pentium | For someone who is in the industry of making movies they will need a computer that offers the best graphics system, a large amount of memory, and a few other things to make high quality pictures. These type of computers are engineered for performance, often with Intel Core i7 processors offering high-performance speed and cores, video acceleration from a professional-grade GPU, integrated high-performance hard drives, and more attention to system integration issues like heat dissipation. For complex layered projects, you then can add a fast external disk drive like a RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disks) storage array to provide the necessary bandwidth for processing multitudes of files. Products like Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5, Apple Final Cut Pro X, and Sony Vegas Pro 10 typically recommend at least a 2 GHz multi-core processor (e.g., Intel Core 2 Duo), 2 to 4 GB of RAM, a GPU-accelerated graphics card like the NVIDIA GeForce with at least 256 MB of internal memory, and a 7200 RPM hard drive for editing compressed video formats or RAID 0 for uncompressed. The key trade-offs for configuring your new video editing computer are the processor for doing the heavy lifting, the graphics accelerator (GPU) for speeding effects, local memory for working directly on sequences, and the disk drive for access to all the media files (2012). In the profession of an author you have...

Peripheral

...A peripheral is a piece of computer hardware that is added to a host computer, i.e any hardware except the computer, in order to expand its abilities. More specifically, the term is used to describe those devices that are optional in nature, as opposed to hardware that is either demanded or always required in principle. The term also tends to be applied to devices that are hooked up externally, typically through some form of computer bus like USB. Typical examples include joysticks, printers and scanners. Devices such as monitors and disk drives are not considered peripherals when they are not truly optional. Some people do not consider internal devices such as video capture cards to be peripherals because they are added inside the computer case; for them, the term peripherals is reserved exclusively for devices that are hooked up externally to the computer. It is debatable however whether PCMCIA cards qualify as peripherals under this restrictive definition, because some of them go fully inside the laptop, while some, like WiFi cards, have external appendages. Due to these considerations, the term has somewhat fallen out of modern usage; it was mainly used in the early days of the home computer boom to refer to things like floppy disk drives and modems. Today most devices are integrated inside the computer's case, and external devices typically function on their own such as mp3 players and cell phones. The term is different from computer accessories: Computer peripheral......

...A power supply is an electronic device that supplies electric energy to an electrical load. The primary function of a power supply is to convert one form of electrical energy to another and, as a result, power supplies are sometimes referred to as electric power converters. Some power supplies are discrete, stand-alone devices, whereas others are built into larger devices along with their loads. Examples of the latter include power supplies found in desktop computers and consumer electronics devices. A CD-ROM /ˌsiːˌdiːˈrɒm/ is a pre-pressed optical compact disc which contains data. The name is an acronym which stands for "Compact Disc Read-Only Memory". Computers can read CD-ROMs, but cannot write on the CD-ROM's which are not writable or erasable. A network switch (sometimes known as a switching hub) is a computer networking device that is used to connect devices together on a computer network by performing a form of packet switching. A network switch is considered more advanced than a hub because a switch will only send a message to the device that needs or requests it, rather than broadcasting the same message out of each of its ports. A network switch is a multi-port network bridge that processes and forwards data at the data link layer(layer 2) of the OSI model. Some network switches have additional features, including the ability to route packets; these switches are commonly known as layer-3 or multilayer switches. Switches exist for various types of networks......
