About 58,000 American soldiers died in the Vietnam War. The reason why the Vietnam War took place is because the North Vietnamese government and the Viet Cong were fighting to unite Vietnam under the communist rule. Around two million Vietnamese civilians and some 1.1 million North Vietnamese and NLF fighters died. In honor of all of the Americans dying, they made a memorial about it.
A memorial is something that is usually a structure, and it is there to show honor to a person or an.event. The Memorial is called the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. The memorial is a long wall that shows each name of an American soldier who died during the Vietnam War. The names are carved into the wall. There are 58, 286 names listed on the memorial. It is located in Washington D.C.. It is made of Gabbro. The wall starts off tall, but it gets shorter. The reason why the memorial is a really long wall is because they want you to actually see how many people died and that so you can actually think about it. The wall is brown because brown represents sadness.
The person whose idea it was to come up with the memorial is named Jan Scruggs, who served in Vietnam before. He was born in 1950 and he went to college at American University. Scruggs is sixty six years old right now.
The person who designed the memorial is a woman named Maya Lin. Maya Lin is an American designer. She is also an artist and known for her sculpture work and her landscape work. She designed the Civil Rights Memorial, the Museum of Chinese in America, and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. Maya Lin went to college at Yale University.

There are a lot of interesting facts about Vietnam. One of the reasons why the United States lost in Vietnam was because of the weakness of South Vietnam. January 31, 1968 was the first night of the Tet Offensive attacks on South Vietnam. The conflict of the war left Vietnam impoverished with a weak economy. The United States benefited from the Vietnam War. One of the ways that The United States benefited from the Vietnam War is by being better medically. The United States developed a new number of new surgical and trauma techniques. America also benefited with military.
The Vietnam War is considered the longest war fought in the United States history. It started in 1955 and it ended in 1973. ...Noe Medina Professor Art 12 December 2015 Describe the Vietnamese veterans memorial what made it so controversial? In 1979 the Vietnam Veterans committee was granted the right to build a memorial in Washington D.C. The committee sought out its artist by putting forth a competition and found there winner a 20 year old Yale Alumni named Maya Lin. The design itself is a black stone, V shape with names of fallen soldiers engraved along it in chronological order. When the design was first publisized the Veteran’s community felt it was disrespectful did not like the color black and felt like it was meant to be hidden in shame. The protesters secured some major players such as congressmen and demanded Lin redesign the memorial. Some of the changes...

Resolution for the Va Backlog

...Operation Continuity: A Resolution for the Veteran Affairs Backlog A Resolution For The VA Backlog Alicia Seabrooks Kaplan University July 16th 2013 How can the problems with the Veteran Affairs compensation claim backlog be resolved and our Veterans be better taken care of? Continuity! Providing some type of transitional continuity of records, especially healthcare records could be the stepping-stone to an overall improvement and solution. This could possibly make it easier for the Department of Defense to have cross platform communication and share data with the VA about those Veterans transitioning out of service. The current backlog is somewhere upward of 600,000 unfulfilled claims, most of which have been waiting in excess of 365 days and counting. By implementing a standard continuity of care for service members transitioning from active or reserve duty status to Veteran status, we can possible save and better protect one of the Nation’s most valuable assets, our former heroes, the American Veteran. The stories of veterans seeking assistance that has been rightfully promised to them are sometimes uplifting and others just heart wrenching and sorrow filled. After doing the legwork and conducting a few interviews, doing some independent research and reading up on proposed solutions I have come across a magnitude of stories filled with so much emotion. These emotions range from despair and hopelessness to joy, appreciation and gratitude to not be forgotten about...

The Military, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, and Personality

...The Military, Post-traumatic Stress Disorder, and Personality Jaye Crouse Northcentral University Dr. Claire Clifford PSY8100 Jul 20, 2014 Introduction The field of personality psychology has developed out of the necessity to know why people act, feel, and think like they do, to analyze their inward and outward motivations, and to discover where behaviors originate. It is the age-old debate of nature versus nurture that is found in many psychological theories and personality is no exception. Some researchers are convinced that the structure of personality is uniform and personality traits are universal, fundamentally heritable, and comprised of broadly defined dimensions where cultural, social, and gender influences are irrelevant and personality traits are fairly stable (Cattell, Eber, & Tatsuoka, 1970; McCrae & Costa, 1997: Terracciano & McCrae, 2006). Other psychologists such as humanistic and positive psychologists believe quite the opposite and contend that humans are essentially good with free will to make choices, change outcomes, and seek out opportunities to enhance their quality of life with the goal of self-actualizing, making personality a more fluid and less deterministic perspective with a focus on values, resiliency, and subjective well-being (Cloninger, 2013). Other researchers such as Freud, Adler, Horney, and Jung believe culture, society, and environment are profoundly important influences on personality (working in tandem...

North Korea War

...Korean War Korean War The Korean War (25 June 1950 - armistice signed 27 July 1953[1] ) was a military conflict between the Republic of Korea, supported by the United Nations, and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, supported by the People's Republic of China (PRC), with military material aid from the Soviet Union. The war was a result of the physical division of Korea by an agreement of the victorious Allies at the conclusion of the Pacific War at the end of World War II. The Korean peninsula was ruled by Japan from 1910 until the end of World War II. Following the surrender of Japan in 1945, American administrators divided the peninsula along the 38th Parallel, with United States troops occupying the southern part and Soviet troops occupying the northern part.[2] The failure to hold free elections throughout the Korean Peninsula in 1948 deepened the division between the two sides, and the North established a Communist government. The 38th Parallel increasingly became a political border between the two Koreas. Although reunification negotiations continued in the months preceding the war, tension intensified. Cross-border skirmishes and raids at the 38th Parallel persisted. The situation escalated into open warfare when North Korean forces invaded South Korea on 25 June 1950.[3] It was the first significant armed conflict of the Cold War.[4] The United Nations, particularly the United States, came to the aid of South Korea in repelling the invasion. Civil Rights

...Civil rights Movement Truman Harry Truman is not a name usually associated with America's Civil Rights movement if only because the main 'points' happened after his presidency - Montgomery, Little Rock, Birmingham, the careers of Martin Luther Kingand Stokely Carmichael. However, some very important civil rights issues were covered in his presidency. Truman’s ancestors had owned slaves. His first recollection of African Americans was a household servants within his family - and he did not come from a prosperous family. While he was dating his future wife Bess, she claimed that he told her that he felt that one person was as good as any other as long as they were not black. He also criticised the Chinese in America, the Jews - to whom he referred to as "Kikes" and the Italians in America who he called "wops". Hence, Truman’s background produced what one would have expected and the young Truman would have had the same views as most other youths in Independence. When he got involved in politics at an early age, he did what any aspiring politician did in the South, he paid $10 to join the KKK. Public office changed Truman. Why? Did he feel that America could not claim to be the democratic  capital of the world while African Americans were treated thus? Or were his motives political? The African American population was big enough to have some political clout. Was he out to fish for their votes with his adoption of the civil rights cause? Truman and civil rights legislation: Before...

Living History

...___________________________ LIVING HISTORY Hillary Rodham Clinton Simon & Schuster New York • London • Toronto • Sydney • Singapore To my parents, my husband, my daughter and all the good souls around the world whose inspiration, prayers, support and love blessed my heart and sustained me in the years of living history. AUTHOR’S NOTE In 1959, I wrote my autobiography for an assignment in sixth grade. In twenty-nine pages, most half-filled with earnest scrawl, I described my parents, brothers, pets, house, hobbies, school, sports and plans for the future. Forty-two years later, I began writing another memoir, this one about the eight years I spent in the White House living history with Bill Clinton. I quickly realized that I couldn’t explain my life as First Lady without going back to the beginning―how I became the woman I was that first day I walked into the White House on January 20, 1993, to take on a new role and experiences that would test and transform me in unexpected ways. By the time I crossed the threshold of the White House, I had been shaped by my family upbringing, education, religious faith and all that I had learned before―as the daughter of a staunch conservative father and a more liberal mother, a student activist, an advocate for children, a lawyer, Bill’s wife and Chelsea’s mom. For each chapter, there were more ideas I wanted to discuss than space allowed; more people to include than could be named; more places visited than could be described...
