Vietnam War Research Paper and Project

Your Mission: You are to choose a topic of interest on the Vietnam War. There are many topics for you to choose from and I have provided a list for you if you need help. You must get the topic approved by me!

Second: Once you have your topic try to narrow it down. You don’t want to have such a broad topic that you are swimming with information. To help you with this you must have a clear and concise thesis that either shows the importance of your topic or takes a stand on your topic. For example if my topic was the cause of the war my thesis would be: The essential cause of the Vietnam War was the instability of government relations between the North and South Vietnamese.

Third: You are to write a 5-7 page research paper focused around your thesis statement and providing evidence to back up your thesis statement. You are to use MLA format and follow the guidelines for formatting your paper. Attached is a rubric that will assess your paper. You are to ATTACH the rubric to your final paper for evaluation

Fourth: You will teach the class what you have learned about your topic. Your presentation will be evaluated according to a separate rubric that you will receive before you begin planning your lesson. You have an obligation to your classmates to be attentive. Everyone will be responsible for evaluating each presentation and offering constructive feedback to presenters.

Along the way you will have check points when things are due. However, I am not going to be hovering over your shoulders. This is your responsibility. Most of the work is to be done outside of class. We will have three class periods to work on it in school. Plan accordingly!!

What Role Do the Media Play in Forming Public Opinion?

...Summary page 2 Research Question page 2 Research page 2 Literature Review page 3 Findings page 4 Discussion page 5 Conclusion page 6 Reference List page 6 Executive Summary This report explores the question of what role the United States (U.S.) television media played in forming public opinion on the Vietnam War. The research, based on reviewing other primary and secondary sources, shows various opposing theories regarding this subject. Firstly, that television media was blamed for the U.S. loss in Vietnam. As Vietnam was the first televised war, it was argued that television swayed public support for the war by projecting the footage of conflict into the lounge rooms of Americans. One counter-theme showed that other factors such as opposition to the prolonged war and military policy were more likely to have changed public opinion. This report discusses how television media during the Vietnam war was just one aspect of how the public would have formed an opinion on such a complex issue, however concludes that further research is required to arrive at a definitive argument on such a controversial topic. Research Question This report explores what role the media played in forming public opinion within the U.S., regarding America’s involvement in the Vietnam War. The research is particularly focused on the level of influence the introduction of television journalism had on forming public opinion during the war efforts. Escalation...

Vietnam/Afghanistan

...Name: Tutor: Course: Date: Vietnam/Afghanistan According to KULAKOV the Vietnam-Afghanistan war erupted because the Soviet leadership was informed about the deployment of an American medium range missiles in Europe by the North Atlantic Council. The leaders of the Soviet Union sent troops to Afghanistan and tried to support the national security interests. Major cities and centers of power were seized as a result of sending Soviet troops to Afghanistan. Other causes of the war were: betrayal of Ancient relationship, instability of Afghanistan, ethnic divisions within Afghanistan, perception of Muslim Regimes and US-Soviet competition during the cold war. The two wars were important because, they facilitated innovations. When it became clear that other tactics failed, innovations based on military expeditions were tested and put into use. Some of the innovations include new ways of using the air assault tactics, enveloping detachments, the armed group concept and helicopter gunship tactics. The role of the two superpowers in the two conflicts is that they supported war rationale, provided that the two countries supported their interests. The two superpowers also maintained domestic and international support in the two countries. The United States at one point tried to convince Afghanistan to be under the Western influence by donating money to support Afghanistan projects, for instance the Helmand Valley project. The Soviet Union also supported...

...Introduction The world has witnessed the significant growth of game industry over the last 10 years. There have been major changes in all aspects such as graphics, gameplay and along with it come a great number of big firms in this industry: Ubisoft, Square Enix, Crytek, and so on. On contrary to this rapid growth, there have been little or none game producers that come from Vietnam. The situation made it nearly impossible for any game developers to set their feet in such field. However, a new and young company, Emobi Games, realized their opportunities and decided to take a risk with the goal is to prove to Vietnamese people and the whole world that Vietnamese games are able to compete at a global level. Impact of Us Foreign Policy on the Vietnam War

...Impact of US Foreign Policy on the Vietnam War The Vietnam War is one of the most talked about wars in history. It began in 1959 and did not end until 1975. These years saw protests, conflicts, casualties, and confusion for the United States, as well as the terms of three presidents: John F. Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson, and Richard Nixon. When U.S. involvement in the war began under Kennedy, it was originally put out as a plan for the United States to only aid the South Vietnamese, but, after his assassination, Johnson was put in charge. The path that the war took under Johnson was filled with controversy and large numbers of casualties. When Johnson did not run for a second term, Nixon was left in charge to ultimately turn things around. Soon, all of the American troops were removed from Vietnam, and the war slowly began to come to a close. But what was it about Nixon’s foreign policy that was so much more successful than Johnson’s? Was Nixon’s policy more closely related to Kennedy’s successful strategy than Johnson’s was, and, if so, why didn’t Johnson do a better job modeling his policy after Kennedy? These are all questions that political scientists still look at today as a way to solve the many questions that are still being posed about the war. I have looked deeply into these questions, and found answers through researching the history of Vietnam as well as the three presidents. As I read about each event that unfolded, it became clear to me why there were such...

Potable water for communities is a key element of a safe and healthy lifestyle. Access to potable water for drinking, cooking and cleaning is a basic need for everyone, but in many parts of the world, safe water is still a dream. It is predicted that over the course of the next 20 years, the situation will become worse, as more water resources are contaminated or disappear while the water needs of a growing population will only increase. In Vietnam, according to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, an estimated 40% of rural communities...

...Environmental Management and Sustainable Development in Vietnam Kenichi Nakagami As a result of the Asian currency crisis, wishful thinking about a future leading role of the East Asian economies in the world economy has lost momentum. The currency crisis has had a great impact on Vietnam, which adopts the ‘Doi Moi’ policy, and negative changes in regard to the outlook towards economic growth and foreign investment are becoming noticeable. However, since Vietnam joined ASEAN in 1995, improvement of hard and soft infrastructures, which contributes to Vietnam’s economic development,is well underway, and industrialization and urbanization are rapidly progressing. This has caused the gravitation of population towards cities, and the impoverished conditions of rural communities. The citizens are now facing the difficulty created by widening earning differentials between city and rural communities. The serious environmental pollution such as air pollution(CO2,SOx,NOx), waste disposal, and water pollution occurred in urban area. There is a need to work out a countermeasure to this situation, need for the sound economic development of Vietnam. It is necessary to perceive environmental and social effects precisely and to learn from the experience of environmental destruction in the Japanese economy which is described as “noneconomic mindedness of economy inconsiderate of environment” in order to achieve sustainable development. The objective of this paper is to grasp the relationship between...

Csr Program

...There is an argument for the assumption of social responsibilities by business that business has a huge power in society. Sree Rama Rao (2009) argues that similarly large total responsibility is required to balance it. If power is significantly better than responsibility, the imbalance encourages irresponsible behavior that works against the public good. It is commonly accepted that one of the best ways to balance power and reasonability is running CSR Program. Especially in Vietnam, this issue is not common. We need to come up with a solution soon. As the CSR Manager for Dilmah Company, I would prefer a variety of way to create a smart CSR Programs to implement in Vietnam which focuses on environment and employees for a long-term period within 10 years. Basically, Dilmah is the world's first truly Ethical Tea. Reflection Essay

...Sandhya Pandey Dr. Boone 16 December 2015 Analyzing Before this class, English 110, I was accustomed to writing the traditional five paragraph essay about whatever topic my teacher had told me to take a side on. And as always I had become used to being praised for my argumentative essays. But, English 110 had something completely different in store for me. It challenged me to think beyond my boundaries, and join forces and communicate with the entire class to write about my topic and somehow make connections with them all. In Module I, about the article “writing and thinking analytically” By David Rosenwasser and Jill Stephen really showed me as a writer how to analyze; which was as the class went on was quite a difficult task for me. I had to understand “To analyze something is to ask what that something means” (Rosenwasser & Stephen, 1), I had become familiar with the way my thought process worked, and how I analyzed day to day things. And now I realized that analyzing is something we all do all the time without even thinking about it. And to become a better writer is to “become more aware of your own thinking process, building on skills that you already possess and eliminating habits that get in the way” (Rosenwasser & Stephen, 1). This class helped me to stay away from making judgements and steer closer to asking myself questions and explore outside of just agree and disagree. From doing the different assignments, I really found myself engaging more and...

Time Capsule

...Final Project: Time Capsule Jack B. Gilmore Kaplan University Final Project: Time Capsule 4/18/2325—I received a phone call this morning, requesting my presence at the site of an archeological dig. I was informed that what appeared to be an intact “time capsule” with a “1/1/1970” date-stamp was found in the rubble of Old Washington D.C. America was a different place then—people were free to eat red meat, the internal combustion engine was everywhere, and procreation was not regulated, to name just a few of the now seemingly barbaric practices that were commonplace in that America. Knowing this, the contents of this capsule should hopefully shed some light on our ancestors, and the information contained within will most certainly be invaluable to historians studying the era of the 1960’s. Item #1: An intact and remarkably well preserved newspaper dated August 8, 1964 with the headline “Johnson Declares War!” The paper is of course referring to President Lyndon B. Johnson and his declaration of war on Vietnam with the Tonkin Gulf Resolution (Chambers, 2000). While the United States had been gradually entering into war with Vietnam for approximately a decade by this point (Britannica.com, 2013), it was the incidents in the Tonkin Gulf and Johnson’s resolution immediately following that solidified the war in America’s psyche. Before this, the Vietnam conflict was simply just that—a “minor conflict” to the majority of America, and as this was a far more preferable way...
