Who wants to Netflix and Chill?
It’s all about change, more specific leading the change you want to see. In today's business world, companies have no choice but to make every effort to keep up with an always changing market around them. “Successful organizations cannot remain static if they hope to continue that success; they must change in order to keep up with a changing world” (Spector, 3). Demands for products and services, changing technology and a more interconnected global market are just some of the change factors facing each and every firm looking to compete in the world today. If a company is not competing on the level it should or is not performing competively, then it may look at change implementation as a start to getting back on track. In order to manage the need for change, managers often use strategic renewal. This wiki will explore the strategic renewal strategy that made Netflix a household name and brought it the success it has today.
Our text defines strategic renewal as a change in an organization’s strategy involving some combination of new products/ services, new markets, and a new business model (pg3). Netflix used this idea and completely reinvented itself. 1. Provide a summary of the organization’s background.
Netflix Corporation was founded in 1997 by CEO Reed Hastings and software executive Mark Randolph. In 1999, both men launched their idea to allow their customers to rent DVD movies and have them shipped to their door. You kept the DVD as long as you wanted and then returned without late fees. The idea was revolutionary and consumers loved it. At the time Netflix was in direct competition with companies like Blockbuster and Hollywood Video which also offered movie rentals for a per-unit price and charged late fees when necessary. 2. Provide a summary of the organization’s renewed strategy.

Netflix created a new renewal strategy that resulted in the change from DVD’s thru mail to providing streaming, in demand entertainment. In 2011, although Netflix was gaining in popularity and customers, it was not seeing it reflected in its financial summary. In order to not only keep the pace, but be ahead of the change movement, Netflix shifted away from its initial game plan. According to an article in the New York Times regarding the company’s shift in strategy, CEO Hastings reported stated;
“Two months ago, I went around the house and tried to round up the three disks I had on loan from the service. I only found one, in part because it has been so long since I had actually put a DVD in the player. Like every other legacy media artifact in my house, it has been pushed aside by more immediate digital offerings. My television, like so many others, streams from Netflix and other services, making DVDs seem like a quaint artifact of a bygone era” (nytimes.com)
It was this kind of change that eventually separated the likes of Blockbuster and Netflix, paving two different paths. “Netflix adapted to the world of DVD’s offered through mail and video-on-demand, while Blockbuster lagged behind” (Spector, pg4) 3. How did employee patterns of behavior have to change based on the requirements of the renewed strategy
In order to successfully effect this change, the organization as a whole must participate and be on board with the change in strategy. A shift in external business practices, has a great impact on internal employees because they are the once who will implement the change and if the implementation is not properly done, then the plan cannot be successful not matter how sound. Transformation change will help in this aspect. If employees are accustomed to one way of doing something, their behavior must be altered to fall in line with the organization. Employers must also be aware of the needs of their employees and not only the needs of the customers.
Netflix has done a great job in creating a name and lane for themselves. The company heads understood the importance of leading change and they jumped on the opportunity. I may not have been the most profitable change, but it did solidify the company’s growth and standing in today’s market. Netflix has become a household name, while Blockbuster has declared bankruptcy. I would say the change worked, wouldn’t you?

...The Kudzu Vine was introduced to America in 1876, as part of a gift from the Japanese. Since then, the Kudzu Vine has traveled roughly 150 thousand acres since its introduction to the States. This is a major problem because the Kudzu plant takes over the ground, and competes against other plants for sunlight, driving them out. Luckily enough, there are many different uses for the Kudzu plant, unlike the common dandelion. Firstly, the Kudzu plant can be used as animal feed. Secondly, the Kudzu plant can be used as fertilizer. It can also be used as food, and most importantly, scientists believe that the plant could be used to treat multiple illnesses, as well as alcoholism and depression. The plant has a large supply of isoflavones, and neurotransmitters. Some doctors say that it might even be a cure for cancer. There are many ways to get rid of the Kudzu plant. First, there’s burning them, which can be said true of nearly anything you have an abundance of. Then, there’s grazing, letting animals eat the plant. This is the method currently being used in parts of the Southern United States. There’s also removing the crowns, which is the flower on top of the plant that has all of the vines coming out. Mowing close to the ground regularly is also a proven weapon against the Kudzu plant. Herbicide has been used for a while, but is harmful for the environment, so it’s not being used much anymore. Finally, there is a specific kind of mold that eats up the Kudzu plant, killing...

Vine Videos

...form, a 6-second form, to be exact. Vine is a smart phone application owned by Twitter that debuted back in January as one of the many video clip shooting and sharing applications available online. Setting itself apart from other applications of practically the same function like Instagram and Keek, Vine was the most-downloaded free application on the iOS store in April and had 11% of iPhone users as active users by May (Souppouris, 2013). Vine was then released for Android in June, further increasing its user-base as well as its fan-base through the publicity of the “Best Vines” communities on Facebook and compilation videos on Youtube. Why have a “Best Vines” public community when other applications have nothing of the sort? As “young” as it is, Vine has already created (perhaps intentionally or unintentionally) an image for itself as an application for short and comedic video clips, as opposed to Keek, which caters more to simple video bloggers, and Instagram, which is more for sharing clips and photos for aesthetic viewing pleasure. Similar to Twitter that has a 140character limit for posts, Vine’s 6-second limit is said to spawn creativity given the time constraint and the desire for one’s post to be noticed in the massive sea of social media and as Shakespeare said, “Brevity is the soul of wit.” The application’s features, publicity and fastgrowing fan-base (not necessarily user-base) helped Vine users to do just that. Facebook’s Best Vines page, where popular and clever posts...

Vine and Fence

...Vine and Fence World War II has destroyed an unbelievable number of families in Poland, but many children did not give up. Anne Michaels’ novel “Fugitive Pieces” introduces us to a Jewish boy that lost his family in the Second World War. Even though, the book was written years after the war, it provides us with a good understanding of the emotional chaos many people experienced. Nevertheless, this book also tells the story of a relationship that develops in the heat of the war. Athos and Jakob were two very different characters who were brought together, forgetting the pain of their pasts and starting new lives. Athos Roussos, a Greek geologist, finds Jakob a 7-year-old Jewish boy from Poland hiding in a forest in Biskupin, an archeological site known as the “Polish Pompeii.” Athos knows right away after seeing Jakob that this boy needs his help in order to survive the war. He knows how dangerous it is to smuggle the Jewish boy across all the borders along the long way to his home in Greece. He decides to bring Jakob to Zakynthos, a Greek island, where he is able to hide the boy from the Nazi soldiers that are trying to kill him. First, Jakob has problems adjusting to the situation that his parents are dead and his sister is missing, but with Athos’ help he finds a way to move on with his life. Athos and Jakob are living together on Zakynthos for many years. Michaels, the author, brings up the question about their relationship, making the reader ask himself how each of them...

I Am the True Vine

..."I Am the True Vine" By Sean Young Jesus Christ portrays Himself as the true vine of God to His disciples for a two-fold purpose: First, to let His disciples know that even though He would not be physically present with them always, He would send the Holy Spirit to be “with” and “in” them (John.14:17 KJV).  Second, He uses this opportunity to instruct them to remain in close fellowship with Him through the Holy Spirit that they may bear spiritual fruit, receive answers to prayer, and have fullness of joy.  In John 15:1-2, Jesus states the following: “I am the true vine and my Father is the gardener. He will take away every branch in me which has no fruit, and every branch which has fruit he makes clean, so that it may have more or bear more fruit. Jesus is telling Christians who continue to bear fruit that they will also continue to grow and prosper spiritually. The Lord will continue to purge us from all sin, in that He "makes clean" for the branch to bear even more fruit.  An example of this is in 1 John. “But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin”. (1John 1:7- KJV). In Romans 6:4(KJV), God's Word instructs us, that as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life." Walking in newness of life is the same as abiding in Christ. In John 15:3-5, Jesus states “You are clean, even...
