1. Cellular phones send radio signals thought series of relay towers. One cell might cover a single building or areas up to 250 square miles, depending on the amount of network traffic a carrier anticipates in a given area. It use both voice and data network.
2. A landline telephone is a device with a physical line connection to a telecommunications network. The phone is plugged into a phone jack in the wall in order to connect with the larger system of cables and relays controlled by the telephone company. These phones use voice network.
3. SMS (short message service) is text messaging. The maximum size of one text is 160 characters. The phone is constantly sending and receiving information. It is talking to its cell phone tower over a pathway called a control channel. The reason for this chatter is so that the cell phone system knows which cell your phone is in, and so that your phone can change cells as you move around. The tower sends the message to your phone as a little packet of data on the control channel.
4. A document is scanned with a fax machine which processes the contents as a single fixed graphic image, converting it into a bitmap and then transmitting it through the voice network.
5. The paging service takes the message and sends it onto the paging centre. The paging centre transmits the message via radio signal (data network) to the base stations and transmitters.
6. VOIP is a method for taking analog audio signal, and turning them into digital data that can be transmitted over the Internet.
7. Skype is software that enables users to make video and voice calls with other Skype users and non-users. It relies on voice-over-Internet protocol, VoIP, technology that establishes connections using the Internet. VoIP essentially broadcasts transcribed voice communication over data...
