Volvo is known for making quality cars that set a standard for safety and reliability, five of its 2013 models are ranked in the top 10 for quality, safety and reliability (USNEWS) Since it separated from Ford in 2010 they have made vast improvements in technology.

Judge how Volvo Car Corporation integrated the cloud infrastructure into its networks.

Volvo has taken innovation to a new level by integrating selling cars with the technology of Microsoft‘s Business Productivity Suite beginning right after the change in ownership. By using the cloud they are able to use the IT staff to focus on the car instead of building a program. They have successfully linked over one thousand supplier’s world wide since its inception. Volvo has also been able to link employees in sales, design and tech support, making problem solving a non issue. They have recently signed with Ericsson’s “Connected vehicle cloud platform” which will power in car applications and infotainment (Gigom.com).
Explain how Volvo Car Corporation transforms data into knowledge.

Volvo takes all data from all sources the car itself, the customer, the mechanic and sales and compiles it in their data warehouse. By collecting such large amounts of information they are able to find problems early and solve them

in a few cars sold instead of thousands. It also allows for a premier maintenance program that can read the car and signal when it is time for service or if an issue is present. Everyone involved has immediate access to data thus creating the reputation for customer satisfaction and safety. And better profits for shareholders.
Identify the real-time information systems implemented and evaluate the impact of these implementations.

The Volvo safety center is an important part of this system. By the car having sensors throughout its system that sends information to the cloud network information is received in real time, they are also able to use forensic technology to retrieve information from vehicles involved in crashes and analyze it to make sure all components are functioning at the level they are designed to. This information is critical to the safety record Volvo has. Customers can receive a “software update” when their vehicle is taken in for service, thus enhancing reliability and customer satisfaction (stated article).
Argue how the Big Data strategy gives Volvo Car Corporation a competitive advantage.

In Volvo’s case big data is nothing but an advantage, they have taken technology and used it to do nothing but benefit the company and the customer. They have the massive amount of data to provide every possible improvement to

the car and take a name already known for quality and turn it into a worldwide favorite. Who could argue with what they have done.
