“Waiting for Superman”, is a film directed by Mr. Davis Guggenheim. Guggenheim makes this film appealing by use of pathos, logos and ethos. Furthermore, He gave ideas of the obstacles todays public schools education face. Mr. Guggenheim demonstrates this by having an interview with five public school students, along with their relatives or guardian. Throughout the course of the film, the interviewed students face certain challenges, and it can be seen in the film. The film can be appealing, because ethos, pathos and logos was used in this documentary. At first, Logos was portrayed in the film when Guggenheim tells us in the film that the nation’s capital scored extremely low in reading and math in the entire country. The logic would be the fact or saying that the system has failed the students. Another point to consider, is that the logical appeals he used was proof of how hard it was to fire a teacher in Illinois compared with other professions. The filmmaker found “1 in 59 doctors, 1 in 97 lawyers, and 1 in 2500 teachers are fired each year." It is easier for a doctor to be dismissed and a lawyer to be disbarred then for a teacher to be fired. As said by Guggenheim.
Additionally, the children interviewed in the documentary seemed to be very sad and quite happy. Statistics show that the nation’s capital scored a very low percentage in subjects such as reading and math. On the other hand, Guggenheim believes that the teachers union is responsible for the school education failure, he elaborates on this throughout the film. Another point to consider, is that all guardians wanted the best for their kids in the interview, this part in the film was either emotional or happy. The guardians were striving to get their kids out of the public school education system.
Furthermore, on the day of the lottery, kids and their parents were anxious, excited, nervous and eager...

Beowulf and Superman

...Beowulf &Superman A hero is defined in classical mythology as a man, especially the son of a god and a mortal, who is famous for possessing some extraordinary gift. Beowulf, the title character of an epic poem and Superman, a more modern day hero are both prime examples. Beowulf and Superman exhibit several differences, but they also share some similar qualities. Beowulf possessed great strength that separated him from other men. Being able to use a sword that no ordinary man was able to carry gives the feeling that Beowulf is something more than a human being. It makes him special and causes him to stand out from all other men. Fame is something that makes a hero more noted. Beowulf’s popularity had spread all over the world. He never let this go to his head and he never thought that he was better than everyone else because of it. By engaging in this foolish contest, Beowulf nearly got himself killed trying to prove he was better than Brecca. Jealousy is never a good trait, especially for a hero. Revenge is never a trait of a true hero. A hero has no scores to settle. A true hero should fight only to protect others and not out of his own rage. Also, with Beowulf being a human being, he was not invincible. Beowulf didn’t realize this until he fought the dragon. He knew nothing of the dragon, it’s strengths, weaknesses or powers. Beowulf found out what the dragon was capable of and what its powers were. He knew that it could breathe fire, so he got a shield that...

Shopping at Affess

...rats in a lab experiment, and the aisles as a maze. Most of the rats--customers, I mean--follow a routine pattern, strolling up and down the aisles and then escaping through the exit hatch. But not everyone is so dependable. My research has revealed three distinct types of abnormal customer: the amnesiac, the super shopper, and the dawdler. The amnesiac stops his car in the loading zone, leaves the engine running with the keys locked inside, and tries to enter the store by crashing into the exit door. After dusting himself off and slipping through the entrance, he grabs a cart and begins hurtling down the aisles against the normal flow of traffic. "Peaches or potatoes?" he mutters to himself. "Doughnuts or Ding Dongs?" He has, of course, left his shopping list at home. When he finally makes it to my register and starts unloading the cart, he suddenly remembers the jug of milk or the loaf of bread that brought him here in the first place. He then resumes his race around the store while the customers waiting in line begin to grumble and tap their feet. Of course, when it comes time to pay for the goods, the amnesiac discovers that he has left his wallet at home. The super shopper has been planning her assault for days. She enters the store with a pocketbook on her arm, a coupon purse around her neck, a calculator in her pocket, and in her hand a shopping list that makes the Dewey Decimal System look downright chaotic. With military-like efficiency, she trundles her cart......

My intended publication would be online blog, which is special prepared for sci-fi movies and TV shows, such as the blog Atomic Anxiety on website WordPress, and so on. Review of the Avengers: Numerous Figures but Distinct Characters Recently, a new TV series was released, called The Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. As a loyal fan of science fiction movies and S.H.I.E.L.D, how can I miss these episodes! However, it is really a pity that there are only few episodes right now, I have to be patient to wait for the next story. And I am sure that most fans would be like me to wait for next episodes. So, in order to make waiting time more interesting, I would like to introduce a movie, which also happened in S.H.I.E.L.D, and fans would like it. It is called Avengers. Unlike normal agents using high technology to solve various troubles in TV series The Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, super heroes in the movie Avengers uses their own abilities to protect their homeland. It is true that the TV series looks more like a reality, but I think superpower makes a science fiction movie more fantasy and mysterious. So, there is no doubt that when it first showed on screen, it received a warm welcome in a large amount of fans. The poster of the Avengers Yu 2 For me, the movie attract me most is that many of audiences’ familiar heroes......

The Phenonmenon of Father Absense

...the development of the female character which strongly decides their fate based on Stephan Zweig’s novel: Letter from an Unknown Woman. Key words: father-absence, the Name-of-the-Father 1. Introduction Letter from an Unknown Woman is one of the most famous novels composed by Austrian writer Stephan Zweig. Its cyclically-told tale of romantic yearning and pining for love is embodied in the doomed, delusional relationship of the two romantic leads: a young neighbor girl's steadfast, sacrificial love for a self-absorbed, dilettante writer. Zweig uses the form of the woman’s monologue as a letter to show us a tragic story of her whole life: how she falls in love with her neighbor, keeps faith for him through her whole life while the man has never recognized or remembered her. Many critics believe that the root-cause of this love-tragedy lies in the indifference roused by materialism during people’s relationship. However apart from this, there is a psychological barrier in the character of this heroin, which should also pay the price. We can deduce from the novel that she is shy, sensitive, self-enclosed and holdfast to the people she loves. To some extent, her struggle with the fate seems to be pale for it is through this character...

Assess the View That Conscience Should Be Obeyed

...Assess the view that conscience should be obeyed Conscience is an incredibly powerful thing that many people do not understand. It has the ability to shape the way we behave and control how we feel over certain situations which includes feeling guilty. Understanding what conscience is and how it is developed is an important thing as it could shape the way we behave and effectively change how society is. Aquinas linked the conscience to God, it isn’t God telling us what to do but it is a faculty of God given reason. Aquinas described the conscience as “the mind of man making moral judgement”. Aquinas saw the conscience as the natural ability of a rational human being to understand the difference between right and wrong, and to apply the most basic moral principles to particular situations. Aquinas believed that the conscience contains two essential parts: Synderesis and Conscienta. Synderesis refers to the rational principles on which moral decisions are based; it is ‘right reason’ which stems from our natural tendency to do good and shy away from evil. The other essential part of the conscience is conscienta which refers to the moral judgement that a person makes based on those principles. Aquinas points out that your conscience should always be followed even if it leads them to do the wrong thing; the conscience can go wrong however by following your conscience, it makes a person morally blameless. Despite a person being morally blameless if they follow their......

Life and Song of Crow

...first Crow poems. Crow: From the Life and Songs of the Crow was first published by Faber in 1972. The poems included in Crow are part of a large number of poems which make up a ‘vast folk epic’ which tells the story of Crow. Hughes’s account of the creation of the figure of Crow is thus: God, having created the world, has a recurring nightmare. A huge hand/ voice comes from deep space, takes him by the throat, half-throttles him, drags him through space, ploughs the earth with him then throws him back into heaven in a cold sweat. Meanwhile man sits at the gates of heaven waiting for God to grant him audience. He has come to ask God to take life back. God is furious and sends him packing. The nightmare seems to be independent of the creation, and God cannot understand it. The nightmare is full of mockery of the creation, especially of man. God challenges the nightmare to do better. This is just what the nightmare has been waiting for. It plunges down to ferment and gestate in matter and a little embryo begins. This is how Crow was created. God tests Crow by putting him through a series of trials and ordeals which sometimes result in Crow being dismembered, transformed or obliterated, but Crow survives them all, little changed. Meanwhile Crow interferes in...
