Dear Private Yare, What were the reasons for your presence in the war? Plenty join to become one of the many; others join for a cause and/or to resolve an injustice. Were you with your mates when you joined the cause? Did you do it for your country? Or did you do it for the glory? Were you sitting at home, counting the days until your departure? Did your parents know? Did you run away like many of the others?
Lately whist watching films of wartime endeavors, I began to question war in general and it’s parts. The definition explains that war is a state of armed conflict between different nations, or states, or within different groups in a state. The thought of war brings a distasteful taste in my mouth. Personally, I view war as a violent and unnecessary act; a bias perspective due to that fact that none of my immediate family members are part of the military. Yet, my curiosity prevails and questions arise. Did your naivety drive your decisions when you first heard of draft, Private? Did you intend to fight for the injustice? Or were you eager to sign your life away? I repudiate that there were those who did not try to dissuade you from leaving with warnings of disclosures. You must have been aware of the horrors and nightmares found in the battlefield and the trenches.
In the field, were you part of the virtuous aviators in the sky? Or a brave infantryman, with a gun in hand, at the frontier? If you do not mind me asking, how does it feel to kill? There must be an unforgettable pain in ending the life of another. Is it wrong to assume that you must have experienced this on numerous occasions? I presume that everyone has experienced the kill. Similarly, how did you cope with the loss of a friend? I cannot imagine the agony and misery it must be to lose one closest to you in such a cruel way. I would not be prepared for such an event. Death is a cruel player in this game. How did you prepare? Can you prepare?
Surviving and returning home must be your biggest blessing, it would be mine. How did it feel to return? To see your wife and kids? War is said to change a person. After the experience, a new perspective is formed and it is no longer possible to look through the old lens. The haunting images must have teemed in your mind. Did the nightmares continue? Did the pain augment? Did the depression develop?
I apologize for your misery, but be proud of your achievements. It is notable and remarkable that you survived through war and were alive to prove it. Thank you for your service. Even the little things impacted society in the largest of ways. I will pray for your peace and those previously and presently at war. May they find serenity and a light to shine through their darkness. Thank you so much for your service.

War of 1812 Letter

...September 14, 1814 Dearest Father, “On September 12, Baltimore was in view of the 50 British warships. To defend the city, some 14,000 militiamen joined 1,000 regulars” (Chartrand, 2012) Seeing the 50 British warships off of our harbor at first was cause for great alarm, which as the days came to pass we were in fact under great attack. We had 25 hours of bombing here at Fort McHenry there was no stopping the whole time. The British kept just outside of our guns reach however we still fought valiantly. Their plan to stay outside of our guns was also to their dismay as they too were not able to penetrate our walls or destroy our fort. The constant assault was deafening and I can barely hear much from all the noise that transpired. Many say that the sounds of gun fire were heard 45 miles away from our fort. We however, are still standing as the British could not stand against our other militiamen and guns from our Fort Covington, nor at the North Point where the British tried a landing attack as well. It has been told that a lawyer, Francis Scott Key, who was on a Royal Navy vessel, outside of our fort, has been inspired to write a poem about our struggle. I have been told that his delight in seeing our flag still standing in the morning after the all night bombardment is what brought about the poem. The British retreated knowing that we are a force much stronger than they thought. Our military forces are now inspired to fight with more resolve than ever......

Letter, War of 1812

...Dear Dad, This war we were fighting seems to have worked in our favor. We had hopes of remaining free of British Rule and to rid our states of their trading policies. In one of our last battles, the Battle of the Thames, different factors led to our feelings of achieving victory; despite the fact that no land was gained by either side. Initially I was losing faith in our army and our chances of success. The British seemed to be more prepared and organized than we were. On top of them having an excellent militia, they also were also allies with the Indians. Despite these advantages, I think that the results of the Battle of the Thames had a big effect on what was to come and what we hoped to achieve by fighting for what we believed in. The battle that preceded the Battle of the Thames was the Battle of Lake Erie. This particular battle led to a British commander fleeing Detroit and going across the Ontario peninsula. During the Battle of the Thames, about 3500 of us were led by Major General William Henry Harrison to pursue the British commander and fight the British. We met up near Moraviantown on the Thames River where we outnumbered them greatly and which led to a quick defeat. The British only had about 600 regulars and 1000 Indian allies under the prominent war chief, Tecumseh. Tecumseh was killed in the battle. He led many Indians and their families and also had a lot of power over the Indians. He was well respected by many and had allied with the British after issues......

Letters During The Vietnam War

...Letters from soldiers who are fighting in a war are cliche in many aspects, yet each letter is unique in its own way. Many soldiers, including those who fought in Vietnam, sent letters back home to describe their ups and downs in the war. Unfortunately, those who fought in Vietnam were not only dealing with the struggle of fighting, but they also faced the struggle to survive in a place where the enemy was everywhere. They faced mental hardships throughout the war. They were fighting a war in an ugly, yet beautiful, battlefield. All the letters that are sent home during the Vietnam Conflict were written by those who served in the military of the United States. They either fought in the frontlines, provided information to those who fought in the frontlines, assisted those who fought in the frontlines, or assisted those who coordinated the battle in the frontlines. Their first hand accounts of the war was credible in many ways. Their letters were not written from secondary sources but were written from primary sources. Their letters could only be written by those who saw the war with...

Letter Reply to Granpda for Not Going to Vietnam War

...A LETTER TO GRANDPA Dear grandpa, I am so happy when I got your letter, I haven’t heard from you for quite a long time, I miss you so much. We are doing great, hope you are the same grandpa. I have read your opinions about the Vietnam War and I have some serious discussion about this. I hope you will understand my perspectives and not forcing me to be conscripted to go to fight in Vietnam. To start with, as you know that South Vietnam seemed to be under attack from communism, with its political, economic and social implications therefore it requested for USA and Australia’s supports. Moreover, we were willing to help because we don’t more countries to become communist like a domino effect and it might affect our country’s policies. Grandpa, do you get why did Australia even agree to become involved? It’s such a bad idea. Australia fight in Vietnam because our biggest ally – USA did and we want to make sure they stay bound to us if we need them to help us in the future (in addition as we formed ANZUS that means alliances have to help each other’s). However, in this case fighting is not a good choice because it will have bad effects on the relationships and in general of those countries. One of the reasons is Vietnam didn’t do anything to us, as if declaimed war or anything that require us to fight, to protect our homes; this case they just want to be communist. Australia was sort of got influenced by the America. I think Vietnam has the right to choose between......

Revolutionary War Letter Analysis

...hired the best assassins. I know you love him very much, and I just heard that he’s gone. If it’s true, I’m writing this letter to express how greatly sorry I am for your sorrow. I’ll be your spy, I’ll help you avenge your son’s death as I’m always your loyal servant. Let bring the war to those two kingdoms and rain punishments on them. Before you brought us everything we now have, I’ll always remember us as peasants who you recruited to lead people to rebel against the cruel kings. You changed our fates for greatness, and for that, I’ll always be grateful. Your servant, Daneer Then the king of Sessiah put the rolled parchment in a pigeon’s neck that he kept in a cage. ...Transmittal letters often accompany reports and inform readers of a report's context. Typically, the letter includes information not found in the report. For example, the letter contains information about the particular project and/or due dates. A Transmittal Letter is a business letter and should be formatted accordingly; that is, you should include the recipient's address, your address, a salutation and closing. Depending on the project, you may also need to include contact information. Always check with your instructor to determine whether or not you should attach a transmittal letter to your report. In Finance, a Letter of Transmittal is a document used by a security holder to accompany certificates surrendered in an exchange or other corporate action. A Letter of Transmittal may also be a distribution list with the recipients of a memo, report or contract. A transmittal letter accompanies a document and explains what the document is, why it should receive the reader's consideration, and what the reader should do with it. A transmittal or cover letter accompanies a larger item, usually a document. The transmittal letter provides the recipient with a specific context in which to place the larger document and simultaneously gives the sender a permanent record of having sent the material. Transmittal letters are usually brief. The first paragraph describes what is being sent and the purpose for sending it. A longer transmittal letter may summarize key elements...

The first part is dedicated to business communication and the second to business correspondence. The special features found in this edition are: 1. Examples of effective letter writing. Studies have shown students studying written business communication can learn as much, if not more, from ineffective examples of written communication as they do from effective examples. 2. Varied application problems in the writing-oriented chapters. The number of problems has been increased. While the majority of problems require the writing of a letter or report, some are designed to give students an opportunity to develop the often overlooked skill of editing. 3.
