25 September 2015 The Water Park The Water Park in Dothan, Alabama was a great summer vacation for my family and I this summer. This vacation brought back memories of my childhood. That twelve-year-old girl still lives within me. The waterslide, wave pool and concession stands were exciting to me at the age twelve. At the age of thirty-nine my impression of the park was different because I had self-control, but the same excitement flowed heavily through my veins as my family and I enjoyed each festivity. I felt like a kid in the candy store as we enjoyed our family vacation in the city of Dothan.

The fifteen feet yellow slide was scary and exciting all at the same time. At the age of twelve, getting on the slide for me was a challenge. I can remember my cousins and friends encouraging me to walk up the entry way to get on the slide. So this summer my husband and kids had urged me to walk up the entry way to the slide. The lifeguard instructed me on how to sit on the mat before pushing me down the slide. At the age of thirty-nine I felt my heart pounding and butterflies crawling in my stomach. I screamed with excitement. I did not use profanity or try to get off the mat that was underneath me this time, plunging into the water, with the lifeguard standing in the middle of the pool sent chills down my spine. I continued to repeat this activity over and over again. The excitement was overwhelming.

The big, ocean blue wave pool was in the middle of the water park. At age twelve my friends and I did a lot of horse playing in the big wave pool that made the lifeguards around the pool sit on pins and needles! I enjoyed the pool with the on and off wave system with my family as we rode floaters to enjoy the waves. The water felt warm against my skin as the waves flowed through the pool. I was a child at heart all over again, oh how ironic this seemed to me. I was older but experienced the same enjoyment. Instead of horse playing in the water, I was educating my kids to follow all safety measures. The family and I spent hours in the pool plunging in the waves in the pool while the sun beamed down on us. The food at the concession stand had the same aroma I smelled as a child. I ate as many hot dogs and hamburgers that my heart desired, but at age thirty-nine you just can’t gulp down too much food because it will show around the hips a couple of days later! Although I was on summer vacation, I remained heart healthy throughout the trip. I watched my portions but enjoyed the food like a twelve-year-old. The family and I also enjoyed the lemonade at the concession stand; again I felt like a twelve-year-old as I sipped on the sweet-tart lemonade. The kids made several trips back to the concession stand to get lemonade, but I remained heart healthy and enjoyed my bottled water. The sun was hot and steamy as it beamed down on my face, but I enjoyed every moment.

The visit was enjoyable to me, and it took me down memory lane again, but I handle the enjoyment in a different manner, on this visit with my family. The festivities were amazing and full of excitement. I giggled while enjoying this time with my family, but the waterpark reminded me of my childhood experience as I slide down the slide, enjoyed the wave pool and concession stand. The vacation ended too soon for me as it reminded me of the wonderful time I had in my childhood.

Doonella Water Park Case Study

...Introduction Aim The aim of this report is to decide whether an Eco Tourist Resort or a Water Park should be built on the banks of lake Doonella which is currently part of the Doonella Nature Reserve. The Sunshine Coast Tourism Association believe that it would be a better location for the Water Park, whereas some local developers view the area as a great opportunity to give the tourists a nature enriching holiday experience. But there are many things to consider, we must consider the flora and fauna of the environment that live in lake Doonella, the economical impact and the social factors on the shire. Background information A catchment is the land from which rainwater drains to a river where some water remains underground and slowly feeds the river between rainfall events. There is an abundance of catchments in the Noosa shire consisting of Teewah Creek , Upper Noosa River, Kin Kin Creek, Lake Cootharaba, Lake Cooroibah, Lower Noosa River and Lake Wayba. The Noosa River catchment and estuaries are both healthy with an A- rating, this is good because it gives the wildlife a healthier ecosystem. Lake Doonella is located in Tewantin and is somewhat isolated from the river by the Doonella Bridge. Doonella Lake is an important part of the Noosa ecosystem because it’s...

Neighborhood Water Park Sociology

...I’ve lived in Houston for about a year now, I moved here from a small city made up of mostly Hispanics, to now living in one of the largest cities in the United States. My area specifically, is made up of 71% African Americans, and the rest being an equal mixture of white and Hispanics. We all coexist as a community, In sociology, we define that as people who live in close proximity that interact and support each other. As I look at ways that we can improve our community, certain things quickly come to mind. For example, the neighborhood water park has safety hazards that have caused children and grown-ups to get injured. In addition, recent natural disasters, such as Harvey, have caused pollution to the nearby lake. Both of these have helped...

Wild Water Gets Soaked

...Jason and Marie Salerno, brother and sister, have been running their family business, a water park called Wild Water, since they both graduated from the college. The Salernos operate the park, which is located near the New Jersey shore, with help from their parents. Marie’s husband and Jason’s wife are also involved in the business. Wild Water has now been in business for more than 40 years—it is a landmark to both locals and summer tourists. The water park features such attraction as a wave pool, several water slides, a flume ride, a kiddie pool, and a tube ride. A picnic park, shaded petting zoo, aquarium, snack bar, and restaurant called the Seafood Shack round out the park’s offerings. The park opens on Memorial Day and cuts back to weekends only after Labor Day, typically closing in the fall. With just a few months to accumulate revenue, the family and employees of the park work extremely hard. Marie oversees the financial aspects of the business, while Jason manages the staff. The staff—ride operators, ticket takers, lifeguards, and the like—are very loyal. Some have parents who once worked at the water park, and many have siblings who also work there. By its very nature, the organization culture of Wild Water is hierarchical—but most who work there, including Jason and Marie, would refer their employees as part of the family. Jason holds weekly staff meetings, where employees are encouraged to voice their idea about any aspect of the park’s operations. Photos of workers...

Then, whatever, was outside in the darkness also breathed, and the huge silence of the night seemed to come inside the camper, stifling them. It was then he decided to pack up and move to a motel. Comments on narration: • Normally chronological (though sometimes uses flashbacks) • A sequential presentation of the events that add up to a story. • A narrative differs from a mere listing of events. Narration usually contains characters, a setting, a conflict, and a resolution. Time and place and person are normally established. In this paragraph, the "story" components are: a protagonist (Hanson), a setting (the park), a goal (to camp), an obstacle (nature), a climax (his panic), and a resolution (leaving). • Specific details always help a story, but so does interpretive language. You don't just lay the words on the page; you point them in the direction of a story. • This...

Urban recreation areas are places where people come together and support their favorite local sports teams. However, nobody sees the negative effects on the environment that these recreational centers caused when they were created. For insistence, Helen McCall Recreational Center along Highway 98 in Walton County is expanding their “twenty-nine-acre recreation area” by clear cutting and burning the woods to expand the park (Wheeler n. pag.). While many people enjoy the idea of more public recreational spaces, there are some who disagree with how the expansion is being conducted. According to Tomas Munita’s article on...

...Three innovative ideas that would improve the area where I live are better jobs, more children after school activities, and parks. In my community there are not as many jobs that are available for many people. This has because many people to struggle with the cost of living. This is due to the low income that is being paid to employees. For example, there are several restaurants that are available in my area, which is the only jobs that will hire people with no experience. Their pay is not much but with the low income that is being paid and the high cost of living, it is not the best job to make ends meet. There are not many after school activities for children where I live today. If there was more after school activities, it will give provide more advantages of children learning, staying out of trouble, and experiencing more out of life. Parks are great to have in the community because this gives families more places that are fun for their children and provides places for many sports activities. Where I live we have 2 parks that are available and one of them is not fill with playgrounds for children and fields where many boys have the opportunity of playing baseball, basketball, and other sports that they love. The other park that we have is located in a neighborhood that is not a place for children. I would never allow or advise my children to attend this...

Representations of Etnicity in Media

...Using your own detailed examples explore representations of ethnicity in the media today. There are many representations of ethnicity is the media however they all seem to be very limited if not overlooked completely. Many of these tend to be as token gestures or stereotypical to fit with the dominant ideology. To explore this further I will be primarily looking at the representation of Gypsies in My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding, a TV programme produced by Jenny Popplewell shown on Channel 4. I will also comment on other representations of gypsies in the media such as those in Snatch and The Traveller Times Online. In the media, gypsies are portrayed in a negative light. Every single media product stereotypes them as dirty, tramps and thieves. We see this everywhere, in magazines, films, TV programmes and Documentaries. A good example is the article titled ‘Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves?’ it varies in different words that are linked with negativity throughout the whole article. While including examples from Snatch, the article says ‘Messages of gypsies in Snatch are deeply negative, putting us, the audience in a superior position’. This clearly shows the negativity of them in the media. Only 300,000 gypsies and travellers live in Britain. Only small part of them are in TV programmes and other forms of media therefore the representation is disproportionate to their population. Not all Irish Travellers are dirty or thieves. My Big Fat Gypsy Weddings is clearly produced purely for entertainment...

Busse Case

...In the case of F.J. Busse vs. Department of General Services, Busse was contracted by the General State Authority to build a fountain in Point State Park. When the area was nearly excavated, Hurricane Agnes deposited 6 inches of dirt onto the site. Busse submitted a change order for $85,000, but the General State Authority only granted Busse an extension of time. The GSA said that any funds recovered from federal reimbursement would be paid to Busse, but no funds were ever recovered. The court ruled that Busse was responsible for the cost of the dirt removal from the job site under the terms of the contract. The court said that even though neither party was responsible for the loss, the party who agreed to take the loss must be responsible for it. In this case, the court decided that Busse agreed to take this loss. In the contract, the provisions are quite vague with Busse agreeing to take the loss from “any other hazard”. The court used this to say that damage from a hurricane could be included under this. The court also ruled that the damage to the job site did not make fulfilling the terms of the contract impossible, but just more expensive. In this case, it does not seem that the court deemed the cost of the cleanup to be impractical, or much more costly than anticipated. I do not agree with the findings of this court. While the contract did leave Busse liable for a multitude of possible damages, I do not believe than a severe act of God like a hurricane should be included...
