Robin and I
Characters: Robin (main), Kevin, Perry Park, joseph, Jonah, nana, Mr.X “Anna! Tell the police what happened. You don’t have to be scared. Just tell what your father did to you,” Robin shouted. “My dad didn’t do anything to me. It was that guy who intruded our house and beat my father up,” Anna told the police officer. “What are you talking about Anna? What are you thinking? I came to save you and that’s what you repay me,” Robin said while struggling with the officer.
Robin is an only son of the big company. His parents sent him to America after the accident. He is a role model in one of the American’s college. He is good at sport such as America Football. He has a warmhearted personality. He loves to help other people. However, Robin lost his memories when he was 8. At 9 pm, one of Robin’s friends called him for help. Her name is Anna. Robin rushed to her house. He spent less than 5 minutes to go to Anna’s house. Her dad was beating her. Robin tried to stop the old man. The old man took his baseball bat and hit Robin’s head. He repeated his hitting skill on Robin. Robin was almost unconscious. Suddenly there was a gunshot. Police arrived and stopped the old man. They ask Anna who attacked her. Instead, Anna told lie that Robin intruded and her father saved her. Police led Robin to the police station while he was protesting the entire way. After police released Robin, he went home and met his secretary. “Young master? Are you in your right mind?” “I haven’t told your grandmother yet”, he added. “Leave me alone! I’m not going back to work in the company. So, you don’t have to come anymore,” Robin shouted. Robin was in pain because of the injury. He looked at the mirror. Suddenly, he remembered a piece of the memories in his childhood. He was searching his medicines, but he couldn’t take it in time. He was trembling non-stop and his pupils’ color changed. His mouth curves upward into a grin. He was the same person, yet different personality. The new Robin headed outside. He returned to Anna’s house and coldly beat Anna’s abusive father. He knew what he was doing. He fought like a martial art. When he was done, he told Anna, “If he ever touches you again, I’ll come back and break every bone he has.” Robin woke up. He was still wearing the outfit he went out. His secretary arrived at Robin’s apartment and asked what happened. But Robin couldn’t remember a thing. “I first realized it then,” said Robin. He had a flashback of him choking someone he didn’t recognize. “That I had a monster living inside of me.” Robin remembered that his other personality created a lot of trouble. Robin was diagnosed four years ago with dissociative identity disorder. It also called multiple personality disorder. It means Robin has multiple personality. Robin didn’t know the exact number of his personalities. One of his personalities was named as “Kevin”. Kevin is the violent personality. This personality will come out when Robin experiences violence. Kevin may be violent, but he never hurts children and women. Kevin endures all of Robin’s pain, as he is the only one who remembers his memories. When his multiple personalities take over his mind and body, Robin can never remember what happens after he loses control. Sometime Robin got a tattoo on his back without knowing. It might be Kevin’s doing. After a few days, Robin opened his eyes to find himself on the plane. The plane was soon to arrive at his country’s airport. On Robin’s cellphone, he found a video addressed to him. “ Helloooooo sissy boy! It is time for you to come back as a successor of your family’s business,” Kevin said on the video. Robin did not know anything else, but he was on the way to his country.
On 20 January, I am on the way to pick up my twin brother at the airport. My name is Lucy. I’m a first-year psychiatry resident in the government hospital. I have a twin brother. His name is Leon. I have a few problems because of him. Leon is a famous faceless writer. That man used my name instead of his in his book. So, I got a lot of calls from the reporters. I am on my way to pick him up and reveal every secret to everyone. That is the first time I see Robin. “How long are you going to live off my name?” I demand. I say I’m going to reveal his identity right here, but Leon manages to clap a hand over my mouth. “My sister is very sick,” he says, pointing to my head. He pulls me towards the doors. “Oh! It’s ok, I understand,” Robin replied. “His name is Robin. I met him on the plane and we just became friend,” Leon introduced. Suddenly, four men come out of nowhere to pick up Robin. Robin resists but they take him anyway.
I give the car’s key to Leon. He drives me to the hospital where I work. When I arrive at the hospital, Dr. Steven asks me to meet him in his office. He tells me to find my patient. I realize right away that whose patient he is talking about. Luckily, I put a GPS on her. She is at the club. There are so many people. It takes me 10 minutes to find her. There is a man talking to my patient. It is Robin again. I’m trying to catch her, but Robin blocks my way. I use my Judo throw skill on Robin. Robin hits the ground hard. I feel guilty for a moment, but I have an escaped patient to attend to. I successfully catch my patient. I send the ambulance to take her. Thinking of Robin, I go back to check on him. As I approach the entrance, I don’t notice Robin walking by. He grabs me by the arm. Robin has a different outfit when I see him in the club. He pulls back my sleeve to show my watch. When the watch face shows the hour, he tells me to remember this time: “January 20, 2014, 10 pm. The time when I fell for you.”
I wonder if he’s the kind of man who’s attracted to women who rough him around. “It’s the first time a woman treated me roughly,” he said. I laugh a bit. I assure him that I’ll pretend he didn’t say anything. I don’t have the confidence to treat him roughly in the future. Before I can make escape, a bunch of guys in motorcycles arrive. They surround Robin. “Take my cloth off!” they shouted. “Try taking it off me,” Robin replied.
I try to talk sense into him, but he refuses. The fight begins. Robin takes out eight or so thugs without messing up his makeup. He thrashes them with kicks and punches. He then walks calmly towards me. I notice his injury on the head. I bring him to my hospital. When I wear my doctor’s gown, Robin knows that I am a psychiatrist. “You and I could have a bad fate,” he tells me.
You don’t say!” I replied.
Snatching her phone, he programs his number into it. He makes sure I know his name. He warns that that the person with his face and a different name is faked — there’s only one Kevin, “So you must never forget my eyes.” He leaves to the toilet as soon as I finish his treatment. I wait for 15 minutes, but he is still in the toilet. When I’m about to call for him, he comes out. He seems a bit different. I mean his aura. He looks confuse. I raise my hand up, but he just goes right past. I yelled to get his attention. He looks dumbfounded. It is me who should dumbfound. Then, he seems to remember and he said:
“The crazy nightclub lady! That’s a relief that you are safe, but I have to go.”
“That’s all?” I asked.
“I’m sorry if my other self did something wrong. I will fix things with you later,” he said.
Am I just rejected by him? Wait! This guy came to me and said he fell for me. And now he says sorry for it. What is wrong with him? One of my colleagues gives the stolen jacket. Robin stole this jacket from the motorbike guy. I intend to throw it away, but it is made in Italy.
Today is family’s gathering. I drive to my parents ‘house. My dad surprises her and discovers the jacket. He thinks is his present. I protests, but he’s already zipped himself into it. My twin brother, Leon, is also here. Our family enjoys our barbecue and we have a cute conversation like before. Leon is talking about his book. He is so into his own world. I’m concerned that he can’t separate reality and imagination. He reassures me that he’ll be fine. He explains how he covers in his multiple personas. Since he is a famous faceless writer, Leon is free as a star. He reveals his third personas. He says by separating his personality, his life is save and comfortable. His talking about splitting personality makes me remember of Robin. Robin might be the same case. After family’s gathering, I go back to work. Someone knocks on my car’s window. Before I know who he is, I pass out.
On 21st Jan, I open my eyes, but I can’t move. Someone ties my hands to the chair. The kidnapper also use measuring tap to shut me up. He is talking on the phone. He calls Robin to return his jacket or he will kill me. Now I remember that Robin stole the jacket yesterday. But the jacket is with my dad. I try to tell the kidnappers, but I can’t since I have a measuring tap on my mouth. Meanwhile the kidnapper prepares for the arrival of Robin. The leader directs his men to attack Robin for practice. For about 15 minutes, I hear the sound of motorbike. It is Robin. He is not alone. He brings a round bomb to a fistfight. The thugs hesitate to attack him. He tells them how he was famous for making bombs. He tells them to let him enjoy his freedom instead of provoking him. While most of the thugs are covering, however, one bad guy creeps up from behind. Robin dodges the first blow, but the bomb goes flying from his hand. Bad guys scatter, the boss dives headfirst into a laundry basket, and the timer reaches zero… ding! There is nothing happen. With the threat of explosion removed, the thugs begin beating the poor Robin. Robin and I end up in a storage room. Robin is unconscious at a moment. They beat Robin hard. Robin takes some time to wake up. Robin now opens his eyes, looks up, and sees me. A wonderful smile lights up his face when he realizes I am unharmed. He tells me that he sometimes passes out if he gets angry or drinks too much. He is seemed to lie to me, but I don’t bother to voice my suspicions. I calmly assure him that I’m fine, and that we’re in trouble. Robin frees himself from the rope and goes to untie me. I don’t how he does it but I just follow him. The kidnappers rush in and take me as a hostage. Suddenly I hear some noise “Tik Tok….Tik Tok.” It is the countdown noise of the bomb that Robin brought. I think this time is for real. Not only the kidnappers, but also Robin and I rush to the exit. The bomb explodes. I remember Robin carrying me while the fire rages around us before pass out.
On 22nd Jan,
I wake up in the hospital. When I open my eyes, I see Robin looking at me. He apologizes for putting me in danger. “I hope you never again have the misfortune of meeting me,” he said. After that, he leaves the hospital. Leon, my twin brother, finds me in the hospital and calls my parents. They pack a lot of food for me. I will never finish that food. I walk to the chief doctor’s office. I want to get back to work. I hear something interesting from the chief’s office. They talk about multiple personalities. I open the door and I see Robin’s secretary and chief doctor. The secretary leaves me alone with doctor Steven. I ask him to let me get back to work. I also ask about the patient in America with dissociative identity disorder that Dr. Steven talking about once. Dr. Steven relates how he met Robin in America. He came to believe Robin story. Seven years of treatment allowed the doctor to get to know all of Robin personalities. It still wasn’t enough for him to help Robin recover the traumatic childhood memories. Now it is all make sense. That’s why Robin is kind of weird. The first time I met him, he was a bit fashion and violent. Then, he turned back to normal when he went to the toilet in the hospital. He changed again when the motorbike guy kidnapped me. Dr. Steve tells me that Robin has 5 personalities. The one, who fought in the club, is “Kevin”. And the guy who came with a bomb to save me from the kidnappers is “Perry Park”. Perry Park is the oldest personality. The other personalities are Joseph, and Jonah. Each of Robin’s personalities has their own name. I walk through the hospital, thinking of Robin. I see Robin at the doorway. He calls me.
“So, you are a real doctor.”
“So why don’t you scare of me?” he asked me.
“Because I still don’t know who you are,” I replied.
“Excuse me, but… who are you? By any chance, do you have a bomb?”
Robin shakes his head. “Then do you have a leather jacket?” I asked.
Smiling now, Robin shakes his head once more.
“Then… what is your name?”
He looks me in the eyes.
“I—with this face and this look in my eyes—am Robin.”
We walk to the back of the hospital. He thanks me for understanding him. He also would like to have dinner with me someday. Suddenly, his hands cover his head. It seems he has a headache. He grips my arms and tells me to stay away from him no matter what. Hit him and run away if need be, “Because it isn’t me, it’s Kevin. He’s very dangerous,” he said. I run for medicine, but when I come back, he’s gone. I worry about him. I talk to Dr. Steve and he says Kevin becomes stronger. If this continues, Kevin will dominate Robin and become the original. It is a battle for ownership.
On 24th Jan,
I call Robin many times, but he doesn’t answer. A new message arrives from him right then, asking to see me. I run down to meet him with a big grin on my face. Robin has a different style again. He dresses like a star.
“Did you forget the look in my eyes already,” Kevin said. It is Kevin. He looks disappointed at me. He pulls me in his car. He states his intention to take over complete control from Robin. He would keep Robin submerged forever if I don’t come with him. “I don’t have much time, but choose me or Robin,” he stated. “You can only have one or the other,” Kevin added. “Why do I have to choose?” I replied” “Because if you choose me, Robin dies. If you choose him, I’ll die.” “Don’t you feel sorry for Robin,” I asked. “Sorry? Without me and the other personalities, the fragile Robin would already dead.” He stops the car. He asks me whether I can put Robin to sleep, so he can be together with me forever. Obviously I refuse, but he promises to persuade me. He leans in slowly to kiss me. Our lips meet, and a single tear rolls down Kevin’s cheek. Then, he opens his eyes. I remember those eyes. It is Robin. This is so awkward. Robin asks me what happened. I explain how Kevin texts me and forces me into his car. Just whom was I kissing? And whom is my heart pounding for? I don’t know anymore. It is so sudden. Robin asks me to be his secret doctor. If I agree, it means I will help Robin to get rid of Kevin. I can’t decide right away.
On 31st Jan,
I take one week to decide. I’m not sure I do the right thing. I call Robin that I will not take the job. “You’re running, anyway, sister. In the end, you abandon Robin, don’t you?” “Who are you?” I asked. “Me? Joseph. Age 17.” “There’s no point living anymore. I’m fed up of being treated like a monster or a mutant,” Joseph said. “Perhaps this sky will become my grave.” It is not funny anymore. He is one of Robin’s personalities. Dr. Steve describes him as a “Suicide one”. I beg him to tell me where he is, and promises to listen to everything. He challenges me to guess. He gives me an hour to find him. “If you’re late by even one second, we will already have disappeared.” He hangs up. I call Dr. Steve for advice. I learn that aside from having suicidal addiction, Joseph is seventeen, a painter who hates anything ugly. He is also a genius. When I tell Dr. Steve about the sky becoming his grave, Dr. Steve realizes that he must be on a rooftop somewhere. I’m taking chances. I’m either right or wrong. I have to at least try. I look for a building near his home. There is a craft store near a tall building. I know it right away. Joseph loves painting. He must be on that building. There he is, waiting on the rooftop. “NO! You don’t have the right to die when you please, since you share the body,” I claimed. Joseph looks at the watch. He looks very sad. “If you want to save us, you shouldn’t be late.” “Everyone has several people living inside of them. There’s me who wants to live, and the me who wants to die. I live every day fighting against the me who just wants to give up. You don’t even have the courage to fight!” I said. “Come down!” I said, holding out my hand. He refuses to come down. I grab his leg, but he shakes me off. I climb up next to him and throw him to the lower level of the roof. I grab him and shout out “Robin”. His eyes close and open again. He wakes up. “ I am Robin, please look at my eyes.” That’s right. He is Robin. Robin doesn’t say anything else, but only holds me as I cry. A few tears run down his face as well.
On 1st Feb,
“ My introduction is a little late. I’m your new physician, Lucy,” I said with a smile.
Robin is a bit shocked. I have 3 conditions. First, I will not put either Robin or Kevin to sleep. I will try to calm down Kevin if the situation calls for it. Second, I will act as a mediator between Kevin and Robin, so the two of them can communicate. Third and last, I will try to talk down the other personalities. So that Robin can live his life and perform his duties without fear.
On 2nd Feb,
I start to work as his secret doctor. He deposits quite amount of money to my account. That shocks me since I don’t have that much before. I disguise as his secretary. I go to work with him. He asks me to be careful with his disease. If the public knows, he will not become a successor of the company. After he meets with the investor, we go for lunch. He talks about his childhood. He says he doesn’t like basement. He is similar to me on that. I hate basement too. So, I tell him how I hate basement. Suddenly, he seems to be out of breath. He nearly collapses. I bring him to the car. I worried when he knocks out, and keeps calling his name. When he opens his eyes, it isn’t Robin anymore. “Girl, you’re so noisy! Stop talking! Close your mouth!” Robin sounds like a teen girl. She must be one of Robin’s personalities. “Are you Jonah?” I asked. “You’re right. Now, stop the car. I need to see some beautiful men,” Jonah said. Dr. Steve nicknamed her the “manager of suffering.” When Robin is extremely distressed but needs to keep his head down, she absorbs it. Robin considers her the most dangerous — a boy chasing. Jonah takes my hairclip and put on herself. Jonah just turns Robin’s body into a girl. I am speechless. Suddenly spotting a beautiful man, she’s out of the car in a flash. I run after her like a mad women. I finally catch her, but she resist. I grab her hair and scream. She also does the same. A crowd surrounds us, filming and snapping photos. It is not good. It looks like a guy is beating on a girl. I know that Robin becomes Jonah, but other people do not know about that. Jonah gets out of my grip and run for it. She bangs into a post. I take her back to the car. When she wakes up, Jonah becomes Robin again. I am relief again. I explain to Robin of what happened. He apologizes again and again. He says when I talked about how I hate basement, some of his memories came back. In his memory, he was locked in a dark room full of toys. We go back to Robin’s house. I tell him we will start our first consultant about the disease. He explains that he’s never taken anyone into his heart since his diagnosis. He might put them in danger. But when he sees me, he remembers the time when he was able to love someone freely. He reaches for my wrist and, tapping my watch. He tells me to take note. “January 29, 2015,10 o’clock. First consultation… starts.” “Kevin?” I asked. “I’m Robin. Are you disappoint to see me instead of Kevin?” “No, you just talk like him,” I replied. “Aren’t you afraid of the people living inside of me?” “I want to be close with all of them,” I replied. “Being healed doesn’t mean they’ll die, she says. Rather, they’ll carry on living in you.” “With the name of Robin, you guys will become an even more wonderful person,” I finished. He stares at me and he kisses me. He smiles at her and says, “I’m Robin.” It is Robin this time. It is not Kevin.
On 5th Feb,
I meet with Dr. Steve today. We discuss about Robin’s situation. Dr. Steve advises me to bring back Robin’s memory. Robin must accept his past. This is the only way for Robin’s treatment. I ask Robin where the basement is. I explain how to treat his disease. He doesn’t remember where the basement is. I ask him whether he has another house. He says there was another house, but his family abandoned it long time ago. We go to find the house. The house is in bad shape. We enter the house and find the basement. It looks like someone burnt the basement before. There is a door in the basement. Robin opens the door. He just stands there for 2 minutes. I ask him, but he won’t answer. Suddenly, I see tears from his eyes. He looks sad. “My stepfather locked me up here for 7 years. Every time he came in, he beat me up.” “This room is always dark. When I was in this room, I wanted to die. I burnt this place down when I was 9. I was a culprit. It was the first time “Kevin” appeared. Even if my dad was a bad guy, he came to save me. He died, but I’m alive,” Robin said. “I remember everything. I created “Kevin” to protect me. He suffers enough. I don’t want to be a coward anymore. I will accept all my memories,” Robin finished.
On 6th Feb,
At 12am, Robin is already sleeping. I wait for something. Robin comes out, but it is, “Perry Park”, one of Robin’s personalities. He wants to drink beer with me. I know he comes to say ‘goodbye’. He asks me to take care of Robin. Before he drinks his beer, he’s gone. I leave the unconscious Robin on the sofa. After 30 minutes, one of his personalities comes out. It is Joseph. Joseph quotes French poet Paul Valéry: “The wind is rising. We must try to live.” He adds, “Goodbye, Sister. Thank you.” Then he, too, dissolves into the breeze. Another 15 minutes, Robin wakes up as “ Jonah”. Jonah is his last personality. She asks me to stay with her until the last moment. In her tough-girl way, Jonah speaks: “For treating me like a friend, thank you. And for treating me like a sister, thank you. For granting my wish today, thank you. Just… thanks for everything.” Jonah tells me I was the first girl she met who could fight. She tells me to be well, and closes her eyes.
Robin wakes up. He tells me that Jonah left. Now most of them left, it makes me sad. Robin says “Kevin” will come out in a moment. It is time to say goodbye to Kevin. When Robin wakes up as “Kevin”, I take Kevin out to the beach. I light sparklers together with him. “I’m thinking about how I can make time stop, or somehow stay with her forever. But, your eyes convinced me to disappear,” Kevin said. “Look at my eyes. You are the first person who treat me like a princess,” I said. “Where is my present?” Kevin asked. I step up to him, and kiss him. “For everything you did for me, this was the only present I could think of,” I said. “It was a good choice,” Kevin said and disappeared.
It is over. Robin and I go to the hospital. Robin is fine now. He overcomes his fear. He asks me to go out with him. He wants to start over again. I’m glad to meet him.

How Can We Explain the Great Terror?

...History 2084 Russia in War and Revolution How Can We Explain the Great Terror? The Great Terror, the watershed between Marxist-Leninism and true Stalinism, is usually defined as the period of almost indiscriminate repression spanning from the Moscow show trials of 1936-37 to the end of Yezhovchina in 1939. During the Terror hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of Russian persons were arrested, detained, deported and/or executed on the strength of orders filtered down from above, with Joseph Stalin at the apex signing the executive command. Given the cult of personality, as well as the particular style of administrative bureaucracy, that had been fostered through the decades since the revolution it would not be unreasonable to conclude superficially that Stalin had orchestrated some grand, Machiavellian operation for the inculcation of his position at the head of the Communist hierarchy. However, to do so seems incongruous with the portrait of incompetence painted by his contemporaries (the Ryutin Platform and the general indictment by Lenin[1] springing immediately to mind) and the seemingly ad hoc nature of his policy decisions[2] (specifically, his situational swings between conservatism and radicalism in the 1920's that seemed to consider the ramifications of those policies as a secondary consideration to the quelling of political dissent[3]). While it seems probable that he was apt to consolidate his influence within the Party at any opportunity, the picture of Stalin-as-Cartoon-Villain...

Great Ape Project

...2010 The Great Ape Project aims to give apes the same basic rights to life that humans have. Paola Cavalieri and Peter Singer published a book in 1993 titled, “The Great Ape Project.” The novel is composed of different essays written by advocates of the projects who aim to discuss the ethology and ethics issues between human beings and apes. Cavalieri and Singer argue that we now have “sufficient information about the capacities of chimpanzees, gorillas and orangutans to make it clear that the moral boundary we draw between us and them is indefensible.” The novel became instantly popular and eventually led to the creation of the self-titled Great Ape Project. The Great Ape Project was founded in 1994 and put into action six years later in Sorobaca City. The Great Ape Project is an international movement that “aims to defend the rights of the non-human great primates-chimpanzees, gorillas, orangutans and bonobos, our closest relatives in the animal kingdom.” According to the project, the three main rights his project wants to ensure for apes include, the right to life, the protection of individual liberty, and the prohibition of torture. The Great Ape Project argues that apes deserve the right to live a higher standard of life. Studies have proven that chimpanzee’s are the closest relatives of human beings. Chimpanzees share 98.4% of the same DNA that human’s have. DNA tests also say that gorilla’s share 97.7% of the same DNA that humans have. The Great Ape Project...

...The whole concept of making America great again is just a big myth. You can’t make something that never was great. Great again. We came to the United States to be free and to be the people that we are or wanted to be. When we got over here there were people already here. We care about them so much that we stole their land and put them in reservations. I just love the way we treated those people we should just start moving into people’s homes just to prove how great we truly are. Then from us stealing land we decided that just to make America, even greater we should start to enslave people so they could do all the hard work and we could do what we do best – get other people to do what we should be doing for ourselves. Enslaving everyone will...

《Good to Great》—Book Review

...《Good to Great》—Book Review “Good to Great”, written by Jim Collins, is not only a guide book for company development but also can apply in self-development of every single person. It is mainly about the seven steps to constructing a system to turn a good or even bad company to a great company. I would like to share some feelings about this book with you in the following paragraphs. To start with, when talking about becoming great, there are seven pivotal steps that we must do. Firstly, we need to find the 5 level leadership. Secondly, finding the proper staff is more important than doing the proper things. Thirdly, confronting the brutal reality is also a necessity for being great. Fourthly, we should insisting on hedgehog concept throughout the process. ...bad things. This paintball facility is located in a great area with close to 750,000 people. The community it will be in is a booming recreational area which will be good for much business. Included will be indoor and outdoor facilities, a concession stand, and a pro shop. The facility has recruited several teams to practice here and also will be working with a paintball league in the area. This will be great for business and cash flow. The potential for growth and capital can and will only go up year to year. We estimate that by the third year this facility can bring in almost 1.2 million dollars per year. We also expect that number to rise as we progress and raise our business to high standards year after year. This company will be owned by 3-4 investors including myself. There are two main things we need to begin the startup. We need a 250,000 investment and a 150,000 SBA loan. For the 250,000 investment, this is where the investors come in. The investors will maintain a 67% cut while I maintain a 33% cut. The total funding needed to get this facility exactly where it needs to be is around 400,000 dollars. This will cover everything from the land, buildings, and equipment. Our goal here is to offer all skill levels the best playing fields, the best equipment rentals and ammunition, and the best officials. Great Customer Service

...Kohl’s has a couple of brands that they use and merge together in advertising. “Kohl’s, expect great things” and “Great things that make you go Kohl’s”. As an employee of Kohl’s we use what we call “GREAT” every day at the checkout. “GREAT” stands for: Greet, Request Credit, Explain E-mail, Ask Survey, and Thank the Customer. “By delivering a consistent message to our customers in a way that is unique to the individual associate, we take what would be a typical transaction and turn it into an interaction. In doing so, we deliver a consistently GREAT experience to every customer, every time, in every store.” (Kohl’s Associate handbook, 2013). Kohl’s uses the word great in almost everything they do, whether it’s in advertising, customer service or their employees. By using the word great in all their advertising, when you hear the word great you think Kohl’s, and that is where they came up with “Great things that make you go Kohl’s.” As a shopper and an employee of Kohl’s, I love the idea of GREAT. When I want to go shopping I go shopping where I am going to be getting great customer service at great prices and Kohl’s offers just that. I also think that Kohl’s does a good job in advertising “expect great things”. Whenever I or someone I know thinks of Kohl’s we always think “expect great things” and or “…that make you go Kohl’s”, just by them using the word great repeatedly and having their employees use it...

30 Books in 30 Days Summary

...What Does It Take to be a Great Leader My Journey Begins When I took the“30 Books in 30 Days Challenge”; I told myself to maximize this opportunity to learn something significant. Broadening one’s knowledge and learning from the best leadership books ever published is like a gift that landed on my lap. 1st day of my 30 day reading journey, I made a strategy with 1 end goal - to enter the minds of all the authors and get the best learnings and most importantly practice it. It wasn’t an easy task - the first few attempts on reading the summaries, I started to doze off at page 2. But I needed to finish not because of the challenge, but because it is an opportunity that should not pass me by. I decided to do it in a way which I will enjoy and love doing it. Since I liked formulas so much and doing it in excel I decided to come up with a “leadership matrix” based on the different books and from there have a formula for being a great leader. I made my summary of the summaries and counted how many times a particular quality or trait will be written by different authors. By this time I started to look forward to reading each summary. Before book # 1, I sat and looked back at the 17 years of my work life and started to ask myself what kind of a leader I am, to accept the brutal facts of how far am I from being a great leader. On the 26th book, finally came up with an equation which I felt and believed is the formula for being a great leader. ...

Lake Huron

...residing in them, the North American Great Lakes are the world’s largest freshwater system (TEACH). Including Lake Erie, Michigan, Huron, Superior, and Ontario, the five lakes are an important source of fresh water and are home to many species of wildlife. However, with the belief that water could dilute any substance, the lakes also became a destination of dumping grounds for many different types of pollutants. Ranging from point source pollution such as industrial waste from drainage pipes to non-point source pollution like pesticide and fertilizer runoff from farms, these pollutants and others have had adverse effects on the lakes. Such adverse effects include reducing the water quality, contaminating soils, and damaging the lake ecosystems. This damage produces harmful repercussions on the fish and wildlife stocks, and to the humans surrounding the Great Lakes region as well. To observe this, we will analyze the tissue concentrations in lake trout of four influential pollutants in Lake Huron, to see if there is a correlation to the total biomass of the lake trout. BACKGROUND Sources of Pollution in the Great Lakes Point-source pollution refers to a direct source of pollution, such as a pipe or other vessel. Early industries like pulp and paper companies located in the Great Lakes region believed that anything could be dissolved in water, and thus neutralized. As a result, many wastes (such as mercury) were dumped into the Great Lakes. There have also been observations...
