Cellphone Industry

...As much as cell phones have become one of the most vital must-haves in our society, the mobile industry is continually growing and multiplying their interests. Mobile market analysts believe that cell phone carriers' demands cause the inflation of cell phone monthly rate, and eventually result in cell phone companies' vast profit. There are those Americans that believe the massive growth of cell phone companies will benefit the country’s economy. On the other hand, some Americans say that its extremely demanding industry of mobile market is pressuring the federal government to come up with a resolution that would benefit both cell phone companies and the consumers. With the information from market analysts, alongside the opinions of many involved, the fact of the matter is that there is an impact on every decision made within this mobile market, which will affect the United States in the long run . As we can tell by the history of the rise and fall of cell phone competition in the United States, we started out with numbers of telephone companies, maintaining a healthy competition. However as time passed by, especially in the case of the original AT&T, it all ended up with one company eating up the rest, achieving absolute control over the market. In this particular instance, the original AT&T was forced to split into seven “Baby Bells,” by the United States Department of Justice in a long-running antitrust suit. While this stimulated a growth in competition and awareness of...

...Activists call for closure of No. 2 nuke power plant TAIPEI--Environmental groups staged a protest yesterday to urge the government to shut down the No. 2 nuclear power plant in northern Taiwan, citing concerns about the safety of the plant. The protesters gathered outside the Legislature, calling for the government to review the operations of the 30-year-old plant in Wanli, New Taipei City. They pointed out that in a routine safety check on March 16, the state-run Taiwan Power Co. (Taipower) found that one of 120 bolts that anchor the plant's No. 1 reactor to its concrete base had broken and six others had cracked. Taipower recently applied to resume operations of the No. 1 reactor after replacing some parts and carrying out other safety checks. But the environmental groups said the cracks in the bolts indicated deterioration of the nuclear power plant's structure, operating systems, parts and components. Allowing continued operation of the aging plant would jeopardize public safety. At a recent public hearing on the matter, Tsuei Su-hsin, secretary-general of Green Citizen Action's Alliance, said the decision to resume operations was not transparent. Overview of Indonesia

...1. Population of Indonesia With a population totaling around 250 million individuals, Indonesia is the fourth largest country with regard to population size. Its ethnic composition is characterized by a wide variety as the country contains hundreds of different ethnic groups and cultures. However, more than half of the population can be classified as belonging to the two main ethnic groups: Javanese (41 percent of the total population) and Sundanese (15 percent of the total population). Both these groups originate from the island of Java, Indonesia's most populous island, which contains almost sixty percent of the country's total population. When the island of Sumatra is included, this figure rises to approximately eighty percent of Indonesia's total population, indicating a significant population concentration in the western part of the country. The most populous province is West Java (with more than 43 million people), while the least populous province is that of West Papua in the far eastern region of Indonesia (having around 761,000 people).   Map of Indonesia Five Most Populous Provinces (in millions)      Province |     Population | 1.  West Java |          43.1 | 2.  East Java |          37.5 | 3.  Central Java |          32.4 | 4.  North Sumatra |          13.0 | 5.  Banten (Java) |          10.6 | Source: Statistics Indonesia Population Census 2010 This section discusses a number of important aspects regarding Indonesia's demographic composition...

Ipl in India

...year on year. The effort made to convert IPL an Indian version of European league has been a success to some extent.  It contains all the element of entertainment that an audience can ask for.  Now recently the stage performances by various artists have also started catering to this kind of need of entertainment.  Though I believe, catering to the need of particular segment many a times, the marketing efforts have been gone to too much length than actually needed.  As have been observed, skimpily dressed cheerleader and their dances are not much welcome to traditional society like India, where entire family watches TV together and still such a show of exuberance combined with excessive show of flesh is generally a taboo. IPL has successfully poached into viewership of TV soaps, as it was a welcome change and affect created was of mirth and merry and welcome break from Saas-Bahu’s painful saga. IPL has been successful in bringing the entire family together as it has something for everyone These classes of people, who want to see cricket along with entertainment rather the other way around, have been dithering away from this new genre of cricket. IPL has also failed in targeting the wide spread rural population, which forms the major chunk of audience for International cricket team. In this divide of team and hence the loyalty has left a huge mass of rural people from semi-urban and rural places looking for belongingness. For ex, a person from Patna, Bihar may wonder whether...

Introduction to Gst

...as the government deals with an increasingly weak economic outlook, combined with global uncertainty. While not at the emergency levels of many advanced Western European economies, Malaysia has not run a structural budget surplus since the Asian Financial Crisis hit in 1997. Federal government debt as a percentage of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) currently sits at 55.4 %.1 For the time being, this is manageable, but it is the government’s ability to reign this spending in, as well as lack of budgetary reform that has led ratings agency Fitch to downgrade Malaysia’s credit outlook to negative this year. The government’s recent 20 sen cut to the fuel subsidy and increasing speculation of a GST framework to be included in the upcoming budget can be seen as evidence that they are trying to remedy both structural and cyclical economic challenges. Furthermore, for far too long there has been an overdependence on the revenue generated from oil and gas dividends, which currently account for over a third of total government revenues. 2 A GST offers a single unified system where the tax burden is equally shared between the services and manufacturing industries, whilst simultaneously broadening the tax base. This will help to minimise tax exemptions as well as the compounding effects of pyramiding tax, tax erosion, transfer pricing and value shifting. In the current economic climate, it will also ensure a level of stability, as a GST is less susceptible to the fluctuations inherent in commodity...

...-1- WHAT IS HIDDEN, IN THE HIDDEN ECONOMY OF PAKISTAN? SIZE, CAUSES, ISSUES AND IMPLICATIONS Ahmed Gulzar Novaira Junaid Adnan Haider Pakistan Institute of Development Economics, Islamabad, Pakistan National Transport Research Centre (NTRC), Ministry of Communications Beaconhouse National University (BNU), Lahore, Pakistan State Bank of Pakistan, Karachi, Pakistan Abstract There is a worldwide contemporary debate about the role of the hidden economy in achieving the goal of sustained and inclusive economic growth and development, especially in the context of its spillover effects on the formal economy. For this purpose, policy makers and academicians have made concerted efforts to estimate the size of the hidden economy and to analyze its causes, issues and implications on key macroeconomic variables. However, there is a consensus among the policy makers that a better macroeconomic policy formulation and its true implementation are subject to the proper management of the associated issues of the hidden economy with suitable policy measures. In Pakistan, it is generally assumed that the hidden economy contributes about 30% to 50% to the overall GDP. The purpose of this paper is to estimate more precisely the size of the hidden economy with the determination of its potential causes and implications. Five statistical and structural modeling approaches namely; simple monetary approach, modified monetary approach using dynamic ordinary least square (DOLS)...

...administration of scarce resources. These resources can be objects and services that are capable of satisfying human needs and wants in both direct and indirect ways. Secondly, in cases where these scarce resources are fully utilized, there is still an ongoing administrative problem of allocating the resources as required by the different uses to satisfy various wants and needs.
