Web Site Navigational Structure: an Argumentative Analysis on Web Site Design and Usability

...Running Head: Web Site Navigation Structure: An Argumentative Analysis on Web Site Design and Usability Web Site Navigational Structure: An Argumentative Analysis on Web Site Design and Usability Yu Wen Chiang Northeastern University Advanced Writing in the Disciplines Professor Suzanne Richard October 18, 2012 Running Head: Web Site Navigation Structure: An Argumentative Analysis on Web Site Design and Usability Introduction Many designers and engineers seem to be discussing what is good and bad user experience and how we’re supposed to delight our users so that they navigate our websites with ease. User experience can be a very blurry concept and consequently, many people use the term incorrectly. Many engineers seem to have a firm (and often unrealistic) belief in how they can craft the user experience of their product. However, a UX depends not only on how something is designed, but also other aspects such as clean, clear sign-up forms, smooth on-boarding experiences, and even helpful blank slates once users are inside applications. Design flows that are tied to clear objectives allow us to create a positive user experience and a valuable one for the business we’re working for. “Web sites are not always as successful or as usable as they could be. Users can encounter various problems when trying to acquire knowledge from a Web site and trying to use a Web site’s functionalities.” (X. Fang, 2012, p.453) Because the Web design industry is now flooded with...

Typography Web Design

...Ulyssa.Johnson1 Web Site Design Phase 5 Discussion Board Course: EM208-1303B-11 September 18, 2013 • You have been asked by a small business in your area to build a web site for their business (which they are willing to pay you for). Explain the approach you will take to planning (learning about their web site needs) through the design and coding of this web project. During phases 2, 3 and 4 we talked about how important color, typography and the navigation through a site. I spoke about how colors affect a person’s mood and emotions, how using certain typography styles can turn a customer away because it’s frustrating to read also, an excessive amount of navigation buttons could cause the visitor of the site to miss the actual meat and potatoes of said site. When meeting with a potential client to design a web site, I would keep this information in the back of my mind and pass it on to the client if needed. My first question would be how much are you willing to spend? I know that sounds a little harsh but, by their response I can determine if the client wants a site with bells, whistles, 3D graphics and videos to sell their products or a simple quality site that will sell their products too. Then, I would find out what message did the client want to convey on their site. For example, even though it is a small business, do they want to portray a big business establishment or just a local hometown business feel. I would ask which products and services they...

Web Design

...offer. Successful web design relies heavily upon a visual concept. Without effective visual design, almost everything on the internet is meaningless. It is visual design that grabs people's attention and encourages them to analyze the piece more carefully. The internet is a primarily visual realm, which is why interactivity, visual elements, and new technologies are such important aspects of great web design. “Since the 1990s (and really, for a select few people, even before that) website design was something that developed very, very quickly and changed rapidly over time. Website companies across the board have taken time and care to make sure that they are innovative and pushing boundaries, while also providing for viewers, visitors, and customers everything that they could possibly need to get the most out of their respective websites and other uses. Today, HTML5 looks poised to be one of the website designs of the future, but how exactly did we get here to where we are? And where have we come from with web design theory and practice, to reach 2013? Back in the early 1990s, HTML (the first iteration) was considered major website technology and innovation. Since then, CSS 1 and CSS 2, Javascipt, Flash, XHTML1, and even AJAX more recently have all come under as the hottest new thing in web design, some lasting mere months before something better innovated across the board. To get to where you are, though, you must know where you’ve come from – and with web design, that......

Principles of Effective Web Design

...utility, not the visual design, determine the success or failure of a web-site. Since the visitor of the page is the only person who clicks the mouse and therefore decides everything, user-centric design has become a standard approach for successful and profit-oriented web design. After all, if users can’t use a feature, it might as well not exist. In order to use the principles properly we first need to understand how users interact with web-sites, how they think and what are the basic patterns of users’ behavior. How do users think? Basically, users’ habits on the Web aren’t that different from customers’ habits in a store. Visitors glance at each new page, scan some of the text, and click on the first link that catches their interest or vaguely resembles the thing they’re looking for. In fact, there are large parts of the page they don’t even look at. Most users search for something interesting (or useful) and clickable; as soon as some promising candidates are found, users click. If the new page doesn’t meet users’ expectations, the Back button is clicked and the search process is continued. Users appreciate quality and credibility. If a page provides users with high-quality content, they are willing to compromise the content with advertisements and the design of the site. This is the reason why not-that-well-designed web-sites with high-quality content gain a lot of traffic over years. Content is more important than the design which supports it.......

Web Site of Midland Bank

... Problem in the current web site of Midland bank The first problem that I found in Midland bank’s web site is that it’s a full of unnecessary images and the images sizes are very large. These images are just capturing the whole pages that create bad effect of the pages. For example , this picture doesn’t mean any effective sense here rather it just reduce the sizes of take proper information on the page. These pictures also increasing the page loaded time and it is hamper for any web site and customers feel disappointed when they browse the sites. Therefore, another problem are the site has lack of information. The information are not organized nicely and the site is not look like a standard financial service’s web site. Moreover, in this website meta description is not mention clearly. Visitors will be confused about the description while they visit the site. Then, in this site they don’t mention about reward program or the ranking position of their bank. Additionally, they just put their sponsor’s picture in their site but they don’ mention about their designation and other information about their sponsors that is very difficult to recognize their sponsors through visiting web site. In my observation another findings they don’t take important information in their site and the information that provided in their web site is not organized clearly. Web Site Publication Process

...Web Site Publishing Process Mario Padilla IT/237 September 3, 2011 University of Phoenix/Axia College Web Site Publishing Process Today there are many ways to publish your website, which should be evaluated according to what you want to communicate on the Internet. What we published is one of the first questions to be asked. We want to publish a personal website, professional, a blog, audio or otherwise. This election will define our initial publication, which is why we must be very sure and plan as much as possible. The type of site we post will play a main objective which we must be clearly delineated before doing anything. Then how the public. This takes into account the resources and knowledge which we have or could have. The primary budget will define what kind of publication can take shape. If we do not have sufficient funding to pay for a hosting, a domain, we have sufficient training or to edit our pages the best choice is to use a wizard to publish a free hosting service or sponsored. The choice of site hosting quite fit with final scope of our project. If your site has dynamic pages need to have databases, but any host that suits us in terms of speed, stability and service is adequate. We must also consider other issues such as how many e-mail allows us to hold that share file transfer and offers support when implementing forms and other services such as domain aliases, sub domains, statistics, etc.. This is an......

...Marketing Marketing on the web includes more than just displaying your services and locations and providing hours and contact information. Kudler’s current site is more of a place holder on the web than an advert for their services. The current marketing strategy consists of a few sections describing some of the focus that Kudler has towards specialty and premium products. The method of collecting feedback is to direct users to a survey. The survey is located on the main menu and is designed to make the user immediately leave their site. The nine question survey is a sliding scale of radio buttons to answer each question between Very Strongly Agree and Very Strongly Disagree. The page consists of a top and bottom header with a black background and as alternating stark white and dark gray stripes wide enough to house each question. The page is designed to expand the background to fill the whole page regardless of the size of the browser window. For users with higher resolutions the page is garish and not pleasing to the eyes. Outside of the survey there is a link to a News section at the bottom of the page with their About and Locations menu. The link is easy to overlook and consists of a small blurb about a new frequent shoppers program. Aside from underrating the draw and possibilities of a News section the presentation of the frequent shoppers program with no details or other resources, such as a link to page describing its benefits, leaves the News section a......
