Week 1 Paper
Making decisions is a process one takes in life almost every day. We get up in the morning and decide what to wear, what to eat for breakfast, if we will stop at the corner store for coffee or maybe wait until we get to work for coffee. We make so many decisions we don’t even realize that we are going through a decision making process. In the year 2007, I had to make a decision whether or not to accept a job offer or continue working at my current job.
Without even realizing, I took the first step in the decision making process described in our text. Identifying and diagnosing the problem. When a friend of mine emailed me and informed me that a position in the Human Resources department where she worked had just opened up, I thought to myself that this would be a good opportunity to try something new. I was currently working as a medical claims processor which was very a monotonous position. As a Human Resources Assistant, I would be dealing with different scenarios on a daily basis. Another advantage to applying for this position was that it was thirty minutes closer to my home and paid fifty cents more per hour. My problem of a mundane job that was far from home could be eliminated if I received a job offer from the company my friend worked for.
Once I completed and submitted the job application for the Human Resources Assistant position at the new company, I began to utilize the second step of the decision making process. If I were accepted for this position what would I need to do differently in my day to day work week? My children attended a school that was in the direct path to my current job but out of the way to the job I was applying for. My first thought was that I would need to wake up forty-five minutes earlier to drop my children off and head to the potential new job. I then decided that if I did get the new position I would

...Reserve). Over time the mix of this total Army construct has been adjusted to best meet U.S. needs in the global community. The size of the active Army has been reduced by over one-third since that time, yet the pace of operations throughout the world has increased significantly, and the resulting deployments have placed significant stress on the total Army. Reserve component soldiers in particular have experienced more frequent and longer deployments than they had during different wars in the past. These tours have resulted in increased pressure on them, their families, and their civilian employers. There are 50 states and 4 territories with National Guard units. Each state’s or territory’s Guard has both Army and Air Force components.1 Each Guard has both a federal and a state mission. As part of the federal force, the Army Guard augments the active Army. In its state role, the Army Guard works for the governor of the state and is frequently called on to respond to disasters. The adjutant general in each state or territory is the commander of the state Guard and he or she is directly responsible to the governor. The National Guard, because of its state mission, is usually the first of the Army components to be involved in responding to disasters. No organization is better suited than the Army National Guard to provide that rapid assistance. There is an armory within 50...

...Your Career Markita Hardy BSA/310 2/08/16 Jeff Doolin Your Career When people have a business they always want to make sure they have a good cliental so that their business can stay afloat. You have to be able to advertise your business or organization so you can let people know what you are selling. Long time ago all you seen was billboards as you are riding on the highway looking at different advertisements about different people’s businesses. If someone was interested in it, they would call the people and the sales person would take it over from there. As things have changed you do not see as many billboards as you used to. Now people are online, using mobile devices, and social media to advertise. All of this data is related to marketing and sales. These two departments need to work together. One question you can ask is “How are mobile device users engaging with our website?” With seeing the overall customer inquiries over time companies realize changes in product interest and gain business intelligence. Website guests have the ability to provide feedback on what they took from the website and also how it is organized. They are able to tell their experience about a certain product that they purchased. You also have to worry about other organizations selling the same product as you are and the price it is being sold for. E-commerce is growing more and more each day. Week 1 Reflections Paper

...Week 1 Reflection Paper Thou shall not kill! Thou shall not steal! Two of the most universally accepted “laws” which have been handed down over the years. These are called Natural Laws which “refer to a body of principles and rules imposed upon individuals by some power higher than man-made law and therefore considered to be uniquely fitting for and binding on any community of rational beings.” (Inciardi, 2010) Natural Laws are the building blocks of the modern criminal justice system. The Code of Hammurabi is a perfect example of Natural Law effecting the legal system. Most of the current code of laws are based on the Code of Hammurabi since the Code of Hammurabi is the first known legal document. The Code of Hammurabi is most notably remembered for the “eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth.” It gives a crime and the punishment for the crime. Many of the 282 crimes are Natural Laws passed on from religious texts. Most industrialized countries have laws that cover the basic Natural Laws in their criminal justice system. The basis of modern society can also be traced back to Natural Laws. If a person commits the offense of rape, murder, or any other of the many violent crimes, then he or she is held accountable and punished accordingly to that crime. It generally does not matter what country you were in if you commit one of these crimes. In the end, it is generally met with a harsh punishment for a heinous crime. In a nut shell, Natural Laws are religious principles...

Week 1 Ethics Paper

...Week 1 ethics paper I would like to discuss Choice 2 for this ethics paper. A married couple who were both addicted to drugs, are unable to care for their infant daughter. She is taken from them by court order and placed in foster home. The years pass. She comes to regard her foster parents as her real parents. They love her as they would their own daughter. When the child is 9 years old, the natural parents, rehabilitated from drugs, begin court action to regain custody. The case is decided in their favor. The child is returned to them, against her will. Does ethics support the law in this case? I’m going to address this dilemma in two ways, Care-based and Ends-based. In my opinion, Care-based ethics supported the law in this case, but only in the favor of the biological parents. I say this because, as an extremely empathetic person, I have crossed paths with people who have had children taken away from them because of drug problems. They weren’t fortunate enough to get their children back, but as a parent I can imagine the sadness, guilt and helplessness these parents had to go through. Being addicted to drugs is not like a light switch, you can’t just stop on a flip of a switch. It takes hard work, belief in one’s self, money, support and perseverance, and even then an addict runs the risk of relapsing. After the parents lost their infant daughter who I believed they loved with all their hearts, the situation gave them the courage, strength and motivation to clean up their...

Week 1 Macro Paper

...Macroeconomics is the study of the economy as a whole which includes inflation, unemployment, business cycles, and growth. It is very important to understand certain terms and how they affect the economy. This paper will also attempt to explain various economic activities and how they relate to the government, households, and businesses. One must also understand the flow of resources from one entity to another for each of the activities. There are certain key terms one must know in order to have a better understanding of the fundamentals of macroeconomics. These terms include gross domestic product (GDP), real GDP, nominal GDP, unemployment rate, inflation rate, and interest rate. GDP is a way to gauge the health of a country’s economy. GDP represents the entire dollar value of all goods and services produced over a certain time frame. There are two basic ways to compute GDP, the income approach and the expenditure approach. The income approach basically means adding up what everyone earned in a year. The expenditure approach involves adding up what everyone spent. Real GDP is often referred to as “constant price”, “inflation-corrected” GDP or “constant dollar GDP”. This basically means it is the nation’s total output of goods and services, adjusted for price changes. Nominal GDP is the market value of all final goods and services produced to include inflation. The unemployment rate is a percentage of the total labor force that is unemployed but is actively seeking employment...

Cis207 Week 1 Paper

...The Flow of Information CIS/207 Organizations today use information in more than ways than one can count. Information is so important today because it is used by organizations and businesses to keep everyday business processes and day-to-day operations running smooth and without glitches. As I have looked at many business and organizational sources both in person and on the internet, I have found that a large majority of these have the information flow start at the top in the executive area. This is what I like to call the trickle-down effect. Information is set to flow among the business and organization and starts at the top and goes all the way to the bottom. During that time, information can be changed to allow only that information that is needed in a certain department or area. If it wasn’t for the information that is provided by businesses and organizations, the business infrastructure as we know it can come to a screeching halt. Keeping that information moving and safe is one of the most important jobs in the business world today. The Freedom Mission Inc. is a not for profit organization that I have had the opportunity to work with and help build their network. Freedom Mission consists of many branches of mentorship programs including middle school at risk mentoring, drug and alcohol counseling, anger management, parenting, and also works with the community to help economically challenged families in the community. The way the information flow pattern is...

Bis220 Week 1 Research Paper

...Week 1 Research Paper BIS/220 Colette Gardner Week 1 Research Paper Advances in ethical issues that arouse from the Children’s Internet Protection Act were Internet use for children in schools and libraries. Children needed to be blocked from the obscenities found on the Internet. The act also is permits for the low cost of Internet access for schools and libraries using the governments E-rate program. The E-rate program has several parameters that need to be met before the disbursements of funds. These parameters need to be met solely by the school or library. The parameter of the act states that web filtering and monitoring over the children must be in place prior to a school or library to receive funding from the E-rate program. These filters block offensive material on the Internet such as child pornography and obscene pictures. The schools also need to have two certifications. The Internet safety policies for the organization must include monitoring of activities and must provide education to minors about appropriate online Internet behavior. The ethical issue arose from this act when government was giving low-cost internet access to schools and they were not held accountable for the material being viewed by the students. The Do Not Call Implementation Act was for just the same as the previous act. It was formed so the public would not be solicited on the telephone. This...

Busn6120 Topic Paper Week 1

...Topic Article Week 1 Sharon Morton BUSN6120 Managerial Economics Instructor: John Blum August 20, 2014 Introduction The first chapter in Managerial Economics and Business Strategy introduces the class to the fundamentals of managerial economics. Some of the topics that were discussed within the chapter were; the economics of effective management, understanding incentives and markets, recognizing the time value of money, and using marginal analysis. The topic that I found most interesting this week was understanding markets. The power, or bargaining position, of consumers and producers in the market is limited by three sources of rivalry that exist in economic transactions: consumer-producer rivalry, consumer-consumer rivalry and producer-producer rivalry (Baye & Prince, 2014). For this week's topic paper, I will focus on producer-producer rivalry and how it relates to Publix being the most popular grocery store chain in the state of Florida. While Publix and their competitors offer thousands of different products to their customers, this would still be considered as a rivalry between two or more producers. Discussion Grocery stores have been competing against each other for decades, always trying to one-up each other in order to win over customers. When one supermarket comes out with a sale or advertises their superior customer service, there is always another competitor trying to lure those customers away. Publix is...

Fin 370 Week 1 Paper

...Howard Parsons July 17, 2012 Financial Terms and Roles 1. Finance – The management of money by governments and companies. The only role the word finance has in finance is the word itself. It is the definition of what exactly finance is. 2. Efficient Market – A market where all pertinent information is available to all participants at the same time. An efficient market allows for businesses and investors to make the best investment decisions possible based off of current information. 3. Primary Market – The market where companies initially sell stocks that they have been authorized to sell. The primary market allows firms to raise available capital by going public and selling initial stocks. 4. Secondary Market – The market where investors sell and trade previously issued stock. The secondary market allows investors to buy, sell, and trade previously issued stock in the hope of earning money for them. The gain or loss is not absorbed by the company that issued the stock but rather the person who initially purchased the stock. 5. Risk – The chance that the actual return on an investment will be less than what was the projected return. Taking on risky investments that have a higher projected return can lure in investors. The projected returns are higher because the risk of failure, or loss of money, has a higher possibility. 6. Security – An instrument that is issued to show ownership. Common securities are bonds, notes, and stock shares. Securities are used by publicly...

Acc 400 Week 1 Paper

...Current and Non-Current Assets Current assets are cash and other resources such as supplies or retail items that should be used during a business year or a company’s operating cycle which is the case with seasonal businesses such as beach stores and ski lodges. Current assets are part of the balance sheet that equals the sum of cash and things that can be considered cash such as: accounts receivable, inventory, marketable securities, prepaid expenses, stocks, bonds, etc. These all can be considered a current asset because they can be converted into cash in less than one business year. Creditors take into account a company’s current assets to ensure extending credit to the company is a smart business move on their end. Since these assets can be easily liquidated in case the company is forced into bankruptcy or worse going out of business. Current assets are defined as a “balance sheet account that represents the value of all assets that are reasonably expected to be converted into cash within one year in the normal course of business.” (Investopedia, 2012) Current assets include cash, accounts receivable, inventory, marketable securities, prepaid expenses and other liquid assets that can be readily converted to cash. Current assets are important to companies for day-to-day operations. Without strong current assets a business can run into cash flow problems which only cause more problems. This is the reason why assets are so important to a business. As long as a business...
