In week one, there was an introduction to informations technology and the benefits of IT in the work place. Some IT tools that are use are video conferencing, electronic health records systems, e-mail, as well as many others. With the advancements of IT, have come many tools that have bettered both the workplace as well as personal lives. IT tools such as video conferencing and e-mail have allowed businesses to better communicate without needing to be close by. Video conferencing and e-mail have also allowed for families to stay close even while living miles apart.
With the advancement of IT, there have also been new ethical issues that have arisen. Some of those issues include piracy and taking advantage of children. IT has brought a whole new world to our current world and with that, many ethical issues have come up. Website owners also took advantage of young children by marking to them. The music industry was brought major struggle when consumers were able to get free or even purchased singles and albums with the simple click of a button. Even though downloading free music is illegal, it is still attainable and has caused the music industry to find more ways to profit.
Other information learned in week one was the use of Microsoft Word. Microsoft Word is one of the most popular word processors and has many tools. With word, individuals are able to place images, tables, and graphs to documents. People can also change fonts, add water marking, and add headers and footers to papers. Microsoft Word is a very beneficial word processor and allows for individuals to do almost anything to their papers with ease.
This week’s material has opened my eyes to many of the negatives that have occurred because of informations technologies. I had always seen it as very beneficial and had not truly realize the so many un-ethical behaviors raised the need for more acts to be

Week 1 Reflection

...Week 1 Reflection Jonathan Guerrero MGT/230 Week 1 Reflection According to class in week 1 we discussed different ways to be in charge as a manger or in management. We learned the four functions of the management process, division of labor, critical thinking, and communicating clearly and affectively. The first week of class really reflect the many functions of being a manager or using these tools to become a manager. Using critical thinking helps to analyze and make decisions. We learned to use critical thinking to make a decision on impulse but to not make an impulsive action. The actions are to be delegated by management and needs to be communicated clearly and affectively. Parts of using critical thinking we also use the division of labor in management. This involves assigning tasks to workers, using a chain of command, and using a line of authority. In class we discussed the four functions of the management process. The four functions are planning, organizing, leading, and controlling. “Planning is specifying the goals to be achieved and deciding in advance the appropriate action needed to achieve goals” (Bateman & Snell, 2010 pg15). In planning it provides the foundation for other functions. It is an ongoing process and it’s a decision process that allocates assets. Organizing is the management function of assembling and coordinating human, financial, physical, informational, and other resources needed to achieve goals. Examples of organizing are system...

Week 1 Reflection

...Our in class discussion last week focused primarily on opportunity cost, supply and demand, and elasticity. Before class we had concerns as we either had not discussed the concepts since high school or college or either had no clue of what these things were or what they meant. Some of us were also unfamiliar with the graphs being used and cringe at the sight of calculating formulas into a graph. At this point there are varying degrees of comfort with the material, but we are optimistic with more study time and practice we will all be successful. Opportunity Cost As the class began the concept of opportunity cost became clear to us all and we now understand that it is something that must be forgone in order to pursue a certain action. Or more simply put the value of the next best choice given up when making a decision. One of our group members was actually experiencing the concept of opportunity cost while we were in class as they had an exam scheduled for the next day that they needed to pass in order to start a new job. The decision of whether to attend class or use that time to study had come in to question and it was determined the value of attending class would be more beneficial than staying home and attempting to catch up on what was missed in class. Because of this situation and the others discussed in class we are comfortable with the concept of opportunity cost. Supply and Demand As our discussion went on into supply and demand, the concept most of us seemed...

Week 1 Reflection

...Week One Reflection The following paper is a reflection of weeks one’s discussion questions topics. Week one’s topics were fair employment laws and unions and nonunion organizations. With each of the topics came comforts and struggles for each of the team members. In addition to the comforts and struggles the team discussed how the topics relate to the workplace. Struggled Team Topics After the discussion that was completed in Learning Team C’s main forum, there were two topics that was somewhat a struggle but yet learning experience as well. The two topics were: the amazement of just how many employment laws there are for a human resource manager to understand and implement and some of the points of views from classmates referring to the subject of union membership. Chapter 3 discussed many employment laws. From the equal pay act, the family and medical leave act, the American disabilities act, to the age discrimination act, the human resource management, as well as the employee, must understand how each act pertains to the organization. Some of the teammates were concerned with the subject of downsizing and how it seems like the first employees to get laid off are the ones who are middle-age or higher. The chapter explained the act thoroughly. “This act prohibits discrimination in pay, benefits or continued employment for employees age 40 and over. A key objective of the law is to prevent financially troubled companies from singling out older employees when there are cutbacks...

Week 1 Reflections Paper

...Week 1 Reflection Paper Thou shall not kill! Thou shall not steal! Two of the most universally accepted “laws” which have been handed down over the years. These are called Natural Laws which “refer to a body of principles and rules imposed upon individuals by some power higher than man-made law and therefore considered to be uniquely fitting for and binding on any community of rational beings.” (Inciardi, 2010) Natural Laws are the building blocks of the modern criminal justice system. The Code of Hammurabi is a perfect example of Natural Law effecting the legal system. Most of the current code of laws are based on the Code of Hammurabi since the Code of Hammurabi is the first known legal document. The Code of Hammurabi is most notably remembered for the “eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth.” It gives a crime and the punishment for the crime. Many of the 282 crimes are Natural Laws passed on from religious texts. Most industrialized countries have laws that cover the basic Natural Laws in their criminal justice system. The basis of modern society can also be traced back to Natural Laws. If a person commits the offense of rape, murder, or any other of the many violent crimes, then he or she is held accountable and punished accordingly to that crime. It generally does not matter what country you were in if you commit one of these crimes. In the end, it is generally met with a harsh punishment for a heinous crime. In a nut shell, Natural Laws are religious principles...

Process Reflection Week 1

...Process Reflection: Standard 1 Ronald Hill Grand Canyon University: EDA 534 July 30, 2014 Process Reflection: Standard 1 Working with team Green and unwrapping the ISLLC Standard 1 was an enormous learning experience for all team members involved. Everyone on the team is positive and motivated to be successful. There were a few issues to overcome, however I see this as process of practice in becoming an educational administrator. The first issue to overcome was just figuring out who was in our group, and somehow communicating with each other. Out of the four people in our group, no one had taken an online course that required Collaborative Learning Groups. Once the team members were identified, it was a just a matter of communicating to get the assignment rolling. The group used emails, text messaging, and the discussion forum to communicate with each other. How to divide the assignment up among group members was another issue the group had to overcome. Once we decided the part that each group member would complete, each member completed his or her part and submitted as his or her part of the final assignment. When a portion of the assignment was published, each group member would give their thoughts, ideas, and opinions on any changes that might need to be made. In order for this to work, all members agreed that critiques or criticism must be made in a positive manner. In conclusion, this was an awesome learning experience for a first assignment. Having group...

Week 1 Reflection on Ob and Business

...Self-Reflection Week 1 This week I have learned a lot about organizational behavior, organizational effectiveness, and high performance work practices. I have learned what organizational behavior is, and why it is important. It was interesting to compare the company I currently work for to these theories and how they are following these practices. Organizational behavior is described by our text as “the study of what people think, feel, and do in and around organizations” (McShane & Von Glinow, 2010). People study OB for at least 4 reasons. First, it satisfies the need to understand and predict. Second, it helps to test personal theories. Third, it helps to influence behavior and get things done. Fourth, it helps improve an organizations financial health. I learned about the four perspectives of organizational effectiveness. I compared the High Performance Work Practices (HPWPs) from the text to Speedway, which is also the company I currently work for. The HPWP perspective states that effective organizations leverage the human capital potential of their employees. Specific practices have been identified as: employee involvement and job autonomy, employee competence, and performance-based rewards. Speedway regularly involves their employees in projects and activities. They ask employees to complete surveys to provide opinions and input. Speedway also tries to provide job autonomy. Each employee has an opportunity for advancement. There are training guides provided to our...

Edci 7761 Week 1 Reflection

...Sadly, this is the last reflection for EDCI 7761. Frankly, I can say reflections were one of the best part of this class for me. Reflections helped me to write and synthesis of general thoughts about all readings, class discussions and things that I learned or I surprise. They will be really good sources when I need to remember something in this course in the future. I would try to do that for my other classes too. In the last two weeks, we mostly spend our time with Strategy Share Presentation and Action Research Project Presentation. ‘Teaching Analytical and Critical Thinking Skills’ was our chapter with Renita. Before starting to say my thoughts about our presentation, I have to say, she is a really good teacher and she helped me a lot during all process. I felt really lucky to work with her. At the beginning, both of us did not like this chapter, because the first pages of this chapter were too theoretical. However, after we saw different practices to use this method we really liked it. I found this method very helpful for gifted education. Especially, for many gifted learners using graphics might be a very effective way to organize information or show the relationships between ideas. Plus, teachers who want to improve their students analytical and critical thinking skills can use these strategies; cooperative learning, asking higher order questions, employing Socratic dialogue or shared inquiry, using interactive computer...

...Week one the objectives were to understand what the essential tenets of the scientific method, and why the scientific method is important to business research. Also we discussed why a business manager should understand the importance of business research and how they can use it in there business. The class learned about research ethics, the different ethical dilemmas and responsibilities of researchers. The purposes of business research; identifying the problems, defining, monitoring and refining strategies, tactics and understanding the various fields of management., as well the definition of good research and its characteristics. Doing research in business management is vital as it helps a business plan for the future. It is based on what happened in the past. If the research is carried out properly it can help a company make an informed plan on how to become practicable in its area. If something has been unsuccessful, for instance, having carried out effective research may help to avoid future failures. Research may also help a business choose whether or not the time is right to expand or not. Business research is important to managers because it can give them information on decisions or problems that they need answers to, like adding an additional location for a store or how to improve employee/customer satisfaction. Business Research helps the managers to understand that by collecting data the business can come up with better products, find out new...

The character Walter Mitty created by James Thurber in the fictional story The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, had a disability that he did not allow for it to stop him from achieving his career goals of becoming a journalist. All throughout his life, Walter was a daydreamer. He would constantly daydream at the oddest of moments. Walter Mitty daydreamed to get away from reality, to be a hero instead of a handicapped person; it was a way for him to be bigger than what he felt. The literary work captures my interest because it reminds me of someone I knew back in high school. That person that I knew back in high school had lost an eye and it was heard for me to look him into his eyes and to talk to him. It was hard on me as his friend because it was a hurtful thing that had happen to him. Walter Mitty always daydreamed about being someone of importance, a commander, a famous surgeon, an accused witness in a courtroom trial, and a captain in a war plane facing heavy enemy artillery. Olmsted twp, Oh 44138 915-245-7747 Joshhaggard34@gmail.com Mrs. Jill Bangerter ITT Technical Institute Instructor 14955 West Sprague Road Strongsville, OH 44136 Dear Mrs. Bangerter: The act of describing one's self is a hard thing to do, reason being is I want to say I am me. I read manga, play football, can do Trig in my head. My personality is random and chaotic and my military back ground gives me little patience for stupid people and incompetence. If I like someone I joke and seem to make for good company, and I say what is on my mind. I am impulsive and aggressive, sarcastic and at times highly caustic, highly intelligent and often lazy. I am Me. My goals in this class are few. First off, My goal is to pass with an A or B+. Secondary to that would be to get back to writing like I used to, free writing and enjoying it. Slight problem with that is I am borderline dyslexic, and if one didn’t know that words isn't easy to spell. Beyond those I don't have much hope or goals for this class. What I hope won't happen, no it's not what most will say or the expected of writing. My fear for this class is to have the creative fire of the Muses stamped out by ridged guidelines and harsh and limited formal tedious papers. Most English classes limit writing so much that there is no point to it. What creates anxiety for myself, I have a chronic habit of procrastination. I do papers...
