“Operation Ceasefire” was originally developed by the Boston Police Department’s Youth Violence Strike Force. Operation Ceasefire is a problem-solving police strategy that seeks to reduce gang violence, illegal gun possession, and gun violence in communities. The goals of the program are to carry out a comprehensive strategy to apprehend and prosecute offenders who carry firearms, to put others on notice that offenders face certain and serious punishment for carrying illegal firearms. The program targets high-risk youths as well as serious and violent juvenile offenders (Crime Solutions.gov, unk). The program is just one element of a collaborative, comprehensive strategy (which also includes the Boston Gun Project and Operation Night Light) implemented in Boston, Mass., to address escalating gang activity and rising violent crime rates. It combines aggressive law enforcement and prosecution efforts aimed at recovering illegal handguns, prosecuting dangerous felons, increasing public awareness, and promoting public safety and antiviolence.

Regarding Operation Ceasefire, A pre/post comparison of time-series data conducted by Braga and colleagues found a statistically significant

...Pro 595 Week 2 Discussions Key Risk: 1. Key risks that exist for any project are risks that impact the scope of the project, the schedule of the project and the cost of the project. The timeline involved with these risk would follow the course of the project itself and would need to be determined early on to avoid major problems, delays and increases in budget to that particular project. If the project scope is impacted due to risk, the schedule of the project can and will change which therefore could increase the cost of the project and make it no longer feasible to pursue. Delays or changes in schedule for planned risk or even unplanned risk do not necessarly impact the scope, however it does impact the cost of the project. Risk associated with cost impact both schedule and scope of the project because if the project cost more due to risk the project may need to be scaled back and have items removed and the opposite can happen as well, additional items may need to be added and impact the timeline or schedule that was already planned for the project. 2. Risk should be categorized based on which risk is more likely to occur or probability, then its severity. For example, at a construction site, the likely hood that bad weather will occur should have a high probability but it can have a severity that ranges from low to high depending on the season and the type of weather that can occur at that time. Bad weather itself can cause delays to schedule and the overall timeline...

...Product, Place, Price, and Promotion. BUS 330 Principles of Marketing Instructor: Eric Freeman Ronnie North September 6, 2015 Introduction In this journal I will be answering the questions of, how would A person apply the four (p’s) to a service? Choose a service you use. What is the service? What is the name of the business that delivers the service? Describe the role of the four (p’s) in the company’s marketing for that service. * How would you apply the four (p’s) to a service? Let me start out by defining the four (p’s) which are according to our text (Glossary) “the four (p’s), product, price, place, and promotion make up the marketing mix, the controllable elements of a product’s marketing plan.” White, S. (2012), However in order to apply them to a service you would need a (place) of business were your customer base can find you, then you will need (product’s) to sell to your customer base, how will come the (pricing) were I believe should have been done before the business got started, in order to see what the market is doing in that particular area, and finally comes the (promotion’s) I would say this is important from the beginning of the business to the end of it. ...of information, listening, inquiry and maintaining mutual respect. In the ER and throughout the hospital leaving out even one seemingly insignificant sign or symptom can mean life or death for a patient and that piece of information can change a patient diagnosis completely changing the necessary care. According to Hood (2014), a professional collaboration is supported by shared respect to accomplish a mutual goal of better patient wellness. Using fundamental concepts like SBAR (situation, background, assessment, recommendation), hand-off, check-back and call-out are ways to make sure communication between professionals is complete, addressing all patient needs and concerns, concise, and respectful. Throughout this weeks Chamberlain lesson and this weeks reading assignments I found a connecting concept of showing mutual respect and working toward a common goal as an exceedingly necessary strategy in promoting communication and collaboration. Interdisciplinary collaborative success in healthcare includes working to achieve a common end result of improved patient health through cooperation. All healthcare professionals involved in a patients care have specific skills and knowledge to help care for a client and collaborative care allows for...

...Discussion Question #2 Week 1 How might you apply ethical philosophies and principles that summarize what you perceive to be the top five ethical issues challenging health care delivery today? What I perceive to be the top five ethical issues challenging health care delivery today are the following: * Avoiding conflicts of interest * Balancing profits with quality of care * Equal treatment of all patients * Managing decision making capacity of the elderly and very young patients * Addressing nurses moral distress when providing care with minimal benefits The ethical philosophies and principles that would summarize these issues for me would be a combination of the Natural Law ethical theory, and the Utilitarianism ethical theory. These theories would summarize the top five ethical issues I perceive to be a challenge in health care today. Describe at least two ethical principles discussed in this week's reading material. Apply those principles to two examples of ethical challenges that exist in the delivery of health care today. Do these principles assist in overcoming the challenge or do they create more of an ethical dilemma? Why? ...Melody Lane Assignment 1 SOC100 Professor Farr 7/27/2013 How does sexuality and religion conflict in society? Sexuality is the way a person perceives oneself through the means of sexual attitude or desires. Human sexuality is socially constructed and sexual desires are imbedded in particular sociological and biological contexts (Tolman & Diamond, 2001) which are in turn influenced by an individual's upbringing and exposure to familial or religious interactions. Whereas religion plays a role of a person attitude and desire towards sex and what is deviant behavior. The article I have chosen “Sexuality& Religion” touch basis on how different religions play a role on human sexuality in sociological concepts. Although this article is primarily based on existing research cause it also has history of sexual beliefs in different religions. This article is informational and I learned a few things about how some religions had different views on human sexuality. Based on Christian beliefs we are taught that sex is immoral and its temptation of the flesh. According to the article early Christians believed the same thing. Through the means of marriage is to encourage monogamy, and place parameters around sexuality. Through the years I have learned sex is a sin and one should wait till they are married. “Sexual abstinence was seen as a central and indispensable means of salvation and was achieved through contemplative withdrawal from the world.” (Sprague Sexuality...

...The brain is an outstanding formation full with different types of lobes that operates to meet our daily functioning. In order for the brain to communicate with other parts of the body, the Hindbrain, Midbrain, and Forebrain correspond with a small composition called neurons. Neurons are responsible for sending information to a different division of the body such as the eyes, muscles, brain, ears, spinal cord, and all other neurons. Neurons are also responsible for the basic things we do, our movement, thinking process, recollections and emotions (Garrett, 2011).Without neurons, it will be difficult to function daily. A case study: Joseph is a 59-year-old construction worker who recently suffered a stroke. A small blood clot became lodged in one of the vessels serving the right side of his brain and restricted blood flow to a portion of his right precentral gyrus. Many neurons in that area were damaged or destroyed and, as a result, Joseph is partially paralyzed on the left side of his body. He can move his left leg and walk, and can also move his left arm, but his left hand and the left side of his face are paralyzed. To determine the process of neural communication and how different functioning affects a particular part of the brain can help understand how the brain damage can originate from stroke and which method would best work in the recovery from brain damage. According to the case study, Joseph's left face and hand are paralyzed, but not the rest of his arm or his leg...

...Advantages The direct write-off method is simple, and can be used by individuals that maintain a company's set of books yet have no extensive accounting education. Unlike the allowance method that estimates probable losses using various ratios and factors, the direct method is based on an actual amount which may be more superior to the small business owner. Disadvantages Since the direct write-off method records the loss only when the account is determined uncollectible, it may result in a loss from a prior period being charged against unrelated income in a future period. This may result in the distortion of a company's true profit of a given period, and does not comply with GAAP matching principle, which requires expenses to be matched with their associated revenues within the same period.Advantages The direct write-off method is simple, and can be used by individuals that maintain a company's set of books yet have no extensive accounting education. Re: Week 2 Discussion

...Decision making is a vital component of small business success. Decisions that are based on a foundation of knowledge and sound reasoning can lead the company into long-term prosperity; conversely, decisions that are made on the basis of flawed logic, emotionalism, or incomplete information can quickly put a small business out of commission (indeed, bad decisions can cripple even big, capital-rich corporations over time). All businesspeople recognize the painful necessity of choice. Furthermore, making these choices must be done in a timely fashion, for as most people recognize, indecision is in essence a choice in and of itself—a choice to take no action. Ultimately, what drives business success is the quality of decisions, and their implementation. Good decisions mean good business. The concept of decision making has a long history; choosing among alternatives has always been a part of life. But sustained research attention to business decision making has developed only in recent years. Contemporary advances in the field include progress in such elements of decision making as the problem context; the processes of problem finding, problem solving, and legitimation; and procedural and technical aids. THE ELEMENTS OF DECISION MAKING THE PROBLEM CONTEXT All decisions are about problems, and problems shape context at three levels. The macrocontext draws attention to global issues (exchange rates, for example), national concerns (the cultural orientations toward decision processes...

Week 2 Discussion 1

...Corporate social responsibility and business ethics have become a part of focus for companies today. In the current corporate world, it is a daunting to operate businesses because misconduct has alerted the public attention and government regulation to encourage more tolerable commerce. Business ethics are standards that would determine an organization’s acceptable conduct (John & Jordan, 2008). It can be ascertained that businesses should not only be concerned about profits alone, but also focus on their social implications and ethical conducts in the areas, which they operate. The use of drugs within the company’s premises is unethical as per our code of conduct. As a manager, I was presented with a case in which one of the employees was alleged to have been smoking during work. At first, I was compelled to confront the employee. In this case, my level of comfort in dealing with the ethical issue was worse as I was infuriated with the case. I was in a dilemma of whether to fire the employee or recommend him to seek help. After a critical review of the case, I thought it would be rational for me to offer guidance to the employee before he would seek assistance (John & Jordan, 2008). I explained to him about the dangers of drug abuse and how that would negatively affect his professionalism. General Motors Company has continually strived to take initiatives to protecting natural resources, human health, and the global and local environment. In this regard, it has been...

Preparing employees to recognize and respond to social engineering techniques requires training, awareness, and accountability. By reviewing and following the employees organizational security policies through training, they can determine the appropriate response to whether or not they should provide sensitive information requested from them through social engineering. Guidelines are typically in place for employees to follow and generally include: • “Be cautious when someone requests sensitive information from you; verify the requester's identity and ensure that the requester is entitled to the information before giving it out. • Consider asking him why he wants the information, and then ask an authorized colleague whether or not the requester is actually entitled to the information. • Request proof of identity, whether on the phone or in person. If identification is provided or otherwise visible, verify its validity before providing the requested information. Don't be afraid to place the caller on hold, or get a number and call him or her back, so that you can verify the requester's identity and the validity of the request...

Week 3 Discussion 1 & 2

...Week 3 Discussion 1 From the e-Activity, develop a regression equation using the data you collected from your research. Use the regression equation to focus the demand for the product you chose for the next three periods. Assess what the results of the regression equation tells managers and how it is likely to impact decisions made related to maximizing profitability. I decided to take a brief look into Buffalo Wild Wings Chain future expansion near college campuses. The restaurant chain's management wants to determine the best locations in which to expand their restaurant business. So far the most successful locations have been near college campuses. This opinion is based on the positive numbers that quarterly sales (y) reflect and the size of the student population (x). Management's mindset is that over all, the restaurants that are within close proximity to college campuses with large student bodies generate more sales than restaurants located near campuses with small student bodies. Imagine you are a manager for the good or service used above. From the results of the regression equation, suggest strategies to either maintain demand (if an increase over three periods occurs) or improve demand (if a decrease over three periods occurs). Provide support for your recommendations. The regression analysis of the demand patron assures that managers are able to forecast the future sales. For profitability perspective, the demand for the future should show an increasing trend...
