Collaboration Worksheet

Write a 100- to 150-word response to each of the following questions:

• What are the advantages of having diversity in a collaborative learning environment?

I believe that working with people from other walks of life can be very beneficial. I think there is a unique beauty in the way a group of diverse people can learn together when everyone involved can look beyond race, gender, sexual orientation or religion. A lot can be learned from another person who simply grew up on the other side of town than you. Even more can be learned from someone from another country. Also, I personally believe that there is a lot of value in being open minded when it comes to religion and spirituality. I don’t believe that any of us were born to believe or behave a certain way.

• How might factors such as diversity, attitude, learning, and work styles affect collaboration?

I think that attitude has the biggest affect out of all of the factors listed here. Without the right attitude, a person can’t really appreciate the results of collaborating with people with different backgrounds and experiences. Things like racism are often referred to as ignorance. I truly agree that being close minded and even afraid of people from different races is the definition of ignorance. To think that your race, gender or country is in any way superior to another person’s is a sure fire way to remain ignorant when it comes to the greatness of being able to learn with people who are different than you.

• How does personal responsibility influence the work and success of a group?

Being responsible for yourself is beneficial to basically every aspect of life. When a group strives to achieve a mutual goal and everyone involved takes the proper care to assure their responsibilities are taken care of, the outcome is usually amazing in my experience.
In some cases, certain people working in a group may slack a little and let others pick up this slack. I’ve learned that this can cause a lot of problems such as resentment and frustration. To avoid these issues and to set a good example for others, it’s wise to show responsibility for your personal tasks and actions.

Rapid Application Development vs Waterfall Method

...References Rapid Application Development Beynon-Davies, P., Carne, C., Mackay, H., & Tudhope, D. (1999). Rapid Application Development (RAD): An Empirical Review.European Journal of Information Systems, 8(3), 211-223. Retrieved from Waterfall Method Liu, L., & Horowitz, E. (1989). A Formal Model for Software Project Management. IEEE Transactions on Software Engineering,15(10), 1280-1293. An Old Waterfall The waterfall model is one of the oldest software development processes often cited in project management. It has been over 40 years since it was first formally described by Winston W. Royce. The model was viewed in the same regard as real life waterfalls because of how the model was presented. The development process of the waterfall model is a linear sequential process just like a waterfall flowing from top to bottom. It is very interesting to me, that often at times the waterfall model can also show backward pointing arrows contrary to a true waterfall where once water flows down, it cannot flow back up. This tells me that the original waterfall model was not perfect nor is any other type of project management process. In Royce’s original model he lists six phases in its model: requirements, preliminary designs, interface designs, final designs, testing and integration; before advancing to any following phase it must be verified. This verification can be considered milestones and is used as a tracking mechanism of the progress of the project. The waterfall...
