Audience, Purpose, Tone, and Content
COM/155 - UNIVERSITY COMPOSITION AND COMMUNICATION I
Instructor: JEFF ARVIZU
By

In this paper we are going to discuss the importance of purpose, audience, tone, and content in academic writing. Without these four things to structure your paragraph it is hard to have a paragraph or paper that will hold your audience. The purpose of a paragraph is why the writer initially wrote the writing. What gives the writer purpose and reason for the paragraph is their ideas, stories, or information she wants to share. The purpose is the main cause for the paper to be written and without it there would be no call to write it. The audience is important to the writing because when writing a paper the goal is to develop a kind of relationship with the audience and dedicate the writing to the audience’s needs. To achieve capturing the audience’s attention so that they may relate to your writing it is important to know the audience’s background, demographics, and education. The audience is important to the writing because they are the reason to present and put the writing together so that it can be clearly understood. It is important to make sure the writing keeps the audience interested and the writing is significant so the audience does not lose interest. The tone of your paper effects the writing because it acts as the writer’s attitude regarding the written subject. The tone you use while writing the paper will show the audience whether the writing is funny, sad, somber, or exciting. Using tone effects the writing because it brings the correct mood to the audience and to the subject the writer wants to convey. The content of the paper effects the writing by holding the audience’s attention with correct material. You keep the audience interested by having appropriate content. Purpose, audience, tone, and content all work

...Syllabus Organizational Behavior Summer 2013 – 37:575:345:T2 Course Instructor Amir H Maleki ah.maleki@rutgers.edu Description The field of organizational behavior (OB) is about understanding how people and groups in organizations behave, react, and interpret events. It also describes the role of organizational systems, structures, and processes in shaping behavior, and explains how organizations really work. Drawing from fields including management, anthropology, sociology, information technology, ethics, economics, and psychology, OB provides a foundation for the effective management of people in organizations. Because it explains how organizations work from individual motivation to team dynamics to organizational structure, knowing about OB is essential to being effective at all organizational levels. Because an organization’s people are responsible for gaining and keeping a competitive advantage, understanding how to mobilize and motivate employees is critical to organizational performance. Businesses excel when employees understand how their behaviors influence an organization’s performance and enable strategy execution, and when they are led effectively and are motivated to do their best. Competitors can often copy a firm’s technologies, products, processes, and structures, but it is difficult to duplicate a core of talented, knowledgeable, motivated employees who work together to achieve the firm’s goals and who care about their firm’s success. Understanding and practicing...
