Ethics Essay
Your beliefs don’t make you a better person, your behavior does. This is a saying that I have been taught as a child. While reading this essay it will discuss the similarities and differences of virtue ethics, utilitarianism, and deontology theory as it relates to ethics and morals. Also I will briefly discuss a personal experience that explains the relationship between virtue, values, and moral concepts as it relates to one of the theories. Ethics and morality play a major role in day to day situations; they dictate how to respond in an acceptable manner.
Similarities and Differences
Virtue Ethics deals with what is right or wrong. It is character-based ethics that views ones action over a period and not for a single action. Utilitarianism theory implies that an action is morally right when it creates a worthy result for the greater good of the people. Deontology is a moral theory that emphasis on one’s duty to do the right thing or take an action, without thinking of the consequences.
All three theories deal with how a person perceives, judges, and react to a situation. Each theory deals with demonstrating the good in a person; making the right or morally correct decision. Both Virtue Ethics and Deontology deal with what is ethically and morally right or wrong.
Motivation is what causes a significant difference among the three theories. Virtue ethics emphasis trying to achieve excellence in all you do, in your personal and professional lives. Utilitarianism focuses on whether or not an action has beneficial consequences. Some may perceive this moral theory to be selfish because you are not looking out for self but for the greater good of everyone. On the other hand deontology deals solemnly on if the action is morally right, the consequences can be harmful to the majority but can still be considered morally correct in society’s

...Religion and Ethnic Diversity Denise McDonald ETH/125 July 12th, 2015 Ramona Taitano Loughran Religion and Ethnic Diversity Everyone in the world comes from different backgrounds, has different religions, and overall has different beliefs, morals, and views. I am white with a Roman Catholic religious background. I will be discussing the Latter-Day Saints (Mormon) religion as well as the Pacific Islander (Polynesian Descent) ethnic group. It will show the differences that these two groups face when compared to other religions and ethnic groups. According to Biola Magazine (1996-2015),” the overwhelming emphasis in the Mormon scriptures is on earning salvation through obedience to commandments and refraining from sin”. In most other religions you are born with original sin and in the Mormon religion, they do not believe that. Sin does not occur until a person is old enough to be held accountable around the age of seven and older. In the Catholic religion, we are taught that it is “The father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit” whereas in the Mormon religion it is “The Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost”. A majority of the Christian population believe that Mormons are not Christian while Mormons disregard that and state that they are. Non-Mormons still believe that Mormons still participate in Polygamy even though it has not occurred since the 1860’s. Many people believe that Mormons spend a lot of their time as teens walking door to door to try to recruit people to come...

...Navy-Marine Corp Relief Society Organization Team Paper ETH 316 Navy-Marine Corp Relief Society Organization This paper will highlight and evaluate a unique organization’s involvement and responsibility to the community. This team will focus on its origins and factors that have influenced the social responsibility strategies of the organization and its social initiative. The United States Navy and Army have been competitive rivals on the football field, a tradition that began in 1890 and has included annual competitions since 1930. These games accounted for the raising of funds. In 1903, after the traditional time honored games were over, the question came up of what to do with the funds rise by the games. The group suggested that the proceeds should go to help widows and orphans of services colleagues. Although the Navy has won more competitions than the Army (57–49–7), this has not stood in the way of partnering for the better good of the community. In 1904, this was the beginning of collaboration and the creation of the Navy Marine Corps Relief Society (NMCRS). Focusing the NMCRS’ involvement and responsibility to the community, our review has revealed that the NMCRS is a private nonprofit charitable organization and operates 250 offices worldwide. As most nonprofit charitable organizations, the NMCRS is managed by a board of directors; however, the NMCRS’ board consists of active duty, retirees, and spouses of active duty or retired members of the Naval...

...The two groups I chose to discuss are the Jewish religious group and the African American racial group. One of the ways the Judaism differs from other religions is the fact that they believe that God id a single, non-physical, all-powerful and all-knowing spiritual being. Jews do not believe that God has ever taken a physical form. They do not believe in Jesus as anything one other and a simple Jewish man who tried to teach the people the basics of Judaism. Jews believe that they are bound to the Torah, which is the body of Jewish laws. They do not believe that Mohammed is a prophet. The Jewish people believe in doing good for others in order to help make the physical world a better place. Another believe of the Jewish religion is that there will be a Messiah who will bring the knowledge of God’s will and peace to all righteous people. They do not believe that you have to be a Jew to be righteous. The Jews have contributed to the American culture in so many ways. The Jewish culture is one that places a strong value on education and community. Jewish Americans have contributed so much to the economic growth of our nation along with adding a cultural vitality. For example, Silicon Valley California has benefited greatly from the contributions and innovations of Jewish Americans. Eth 125 Week 4 Religious and Ethnic Diversity

...Religious and Ethnic Diversity ETH 125 University of Phoenix Mormonism is a uniquely American religion, have been founded by Joseph Smith Jr., of New York ("The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints", 2013). Mormonism originated in the 1820s, as described by the Church’s website, when Joseph Smith Jr. was confused and frustrated by the various Christian religions and was unable to choose one to follow. He turned to the Bible, which told him to ask God when he lacked wisdom. So he prayed to God, and was visited by the Heavenly Father and his Son, Jesus Christ. According to one of the members of the governing body of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Bruce McConkie (1958), “Mormonism is indistinguishable from Christianity”. However, there are some distinct differences between Mormonism and other Christian religions, and other religions in general. These differences have led to a history of discrimination and persecution, so much though that the Church today keeps many of its ceremonies, practices, and beliefs private. The Church of Jesus Christ and Latter-Day Saints has had a vast impact on American culture which includes a recent Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney. The differences between Mormonism and Christianity are subtle. Mormons believe that their Church is the “True Church of Christ”. According to their scripture study publications, the Christian religion became corrupted during “The Great Apostasy” shortly after Christ’s death and resurrection...

...0-Day Patch Exposing Vendors (In)security Performance Stefan Frei, Bernhard Tellenbach, and Bernhard Plattner Computer Engineering and Networks Laboratory (TIK) Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, ETH Zurich {stefan.frei, tellenbach, plattner}@tik.ee.ethz.ch http://www.techzoom.net/risk/ Abstract. We measure and compare the performance of the vulnerability handling and patch development process of Microsoft and Apple to better understand the security ecosystem. We introduce the 0-day patch rate as a new metric; being the number of patches a vendor is able to release at the day of the public disclosure of a new vulnerability. Using this measure we can directly compare the security performance of Microsoft and Apple over the last 6 years. We find global and vendor specific trends and measure the effectiveness of the patch development process of two major software vendors over a long period. For both vendors we find that major software development projects (such as a new OS release or Service Pack) consumes resources at the cost of patch development. Our data does not support the common belief that software from Apple is inherently more secure than software from Microsoft. While the average number of unpatched vulnerabilities has stabilized for Microsoft, Apple has bypassed Microsoft and shows an increasing trend. We provided an insight into the vulnerability lifecycle and trends in the insecurity scene based on empirical data and analysis. To properly plan, assess, and justify...
