Gene One is a company that is only eight years old and was started by founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Don Ruiz. Gene One has recently enjoyed innovative success with a discovery that benefits the agricultural farming industry. This gene technology intervenes with the eradication of disease in tomatoes and potatoes. "As a result, farmers no longer needed to use pesticides when growing these plants and consumers were pleased to buy homegrown products untainted by chemicals" (Gene one, 2009). Teri Robertson, Gene One's chief technology officer and research scientist is credited with the discovery in the biotech division of the company. The discovery is acknowledged for helping Gene One to develop from a $2 million dollar company to the current $400 million dollar company of today.
Gene One is coming up on an opportunity for their organization with the transition to an initial public offering (IPO). A milestone for any company is the issuance of publicly traded stock. While the motivations for an initial public offering are clear-cut, the means for doing so is complex. The opportunity they have is to develop an effectively performing culture all working towards the same goal. The company is in a transition phase. I believe that Gene One needs transformational leadership to realize the vision of taking the company into the public sector. Transformational leadership requires charisma, motivation, selflessness, and intellectual stimulation. Research on charismatic and transformational leadership indicates that a clear and compelling vision is useful to guide change in an organization (Yukl, 2006).
The key issue in this scenario is their organizational culture. The company consists of individuals who each have a passion in relation to working in the biotech industry. The Board of Directors for Gene One is accustomed to operating on a private level.…...

You can either get broadband through Comcast, or DSL through Century Link. Both have their positives and negatives, and both are around the same price. Comcast is 39.99 a month, for broadband internet service. While Century Link is $29.95 a month for DSL service. I personally have DSL though Century Link as I think that their customer service is much better than Comcast. Century Link provides packages of 1.5, 7, 12, 20 and 40Mbp/s connections, though all of them are the same price. I personally have the 40Mbp/s connection and pay $30 a month for the service. The router they provide has wireless capability and has suited all of my needs. Century Link has been running a campaign that they will be installing a full fiber optic system in the Denver area over the next year. So their speeds will be increasing in order to compete with Comcast. Comcast provides up to 50Mb/s for $40 a month, on a dedicated broadband line. Meaning that you should always have 50Mb/s no matter the time of day. They do offer more expensive plans with higher bandwidth, such as 105Mb/s for $45 a month. Although this product is fairly common, I believe it to be unique from other examples such as the cassette tape and the Apple iPod. The main difference is that although this product is indeed in the declining stages of the product life cycle, I strongly believe the product will continue to remain relevant for the next several years due to the way Philips has re-designated the CD’s usage.
