My personal model of helping is based on my own experience with change. It is a combination of person-centered and behavioral theories that combine together to create the framework that will help me help others. I formed this viewpoint from several different areas. The first is from the different selections in our textbook. While reading the text selections I identified most with Carl Rogers' theories of therapy. Rogers' approach to let the client feel responsible for their treatment allows the client to take responsibility for the changes that they make. Person-centered therapy does not look to the past, as more Freudian therapies do. Person-centered therapy focuses on the present and asks the client to take ownership of their own wellbeing. In combination with person-centered therapy I believe that focusing on the present with a client is very important and letting the client discover their own willingness for change. Once the client decides that they have the desire to change, they then need the skills to make those changes in their life, which is where behavioral theories are implemented. Giving the client the skills to personally implement the changes is very powerful. It gives them ownership of their treatment and teaches them how to continue their recovery even after they have ended therapy. It is akin to the Chinese proverb of, "if you give a man a fish you feed him for a day. If you teach a man to fish you feed him for a lifetime" (Author unknown). Giving a client the skills to continue to help themselves long after they have left the safety of their therapist's office helps them for much longer then if you simply tell them what you, as the therapist, think is wrong and then tell them how to fix it. Again, it does not give the client the ownership of their situation and they do not feel as committed to the

...BUSINESS COMMUNICATIONS AND CRITICAL THINKING Tina Freitag Feb 2, 2014 Smoking Marihuana The subject I picked for my rebuttal is smoking marihuana as I know this has been a subject of popular debit especially now that there is a want and maybe a need to legalize this product. After spending sometime reading articles I had found by Kershaw, I found it hard to agree with the author on his reasons why marihuana is a gateway drug. I found myself attached to his writing because he discusses the use of marihuana as a “starter drug” or a “gateway drug” His article discusses the life of a woman who was a marihuana smoker for many years then suddenly switched to use of morphine. The mindset that marihuana has been a gateway or starter drug has actually been proven to be a myth for many year. There was a study done is 1999, by the Neuroscience and Behavioral Health at the Institute of Medicine entitled "Marijuana and Medicine: Assessing the Science Base," this study was able to prove that there is zero evidence of any link between cannabis use and the urge to use any additional drugs or to move on to a stronger more dangerous drug. The Institute of Medicine is a nonprofit, non-government organization in which was founded in 1970, by the congressional charter of the National Academy of Sciences and continues to be a valuable source even today. The study used was based on a woman who is not credible because the study is based on the women’s sole opinion and not on...

...Eric Andrews Sampling the Population, Appropriate Sampling Method, Frame, and Size Sampling is important to determine whether or not the company's migration to the cloud will be successful. This is done by sampling few a few key groups of people to ultimately gather enough information without having to get feedback from every person involved. Company employees will each be subjected to simple random sampling. Half of the employees will undergo an interview and will be asked to complete a survey. A random starting point in the survey will be selected using a specifically designed computer program. This method will ensure that the targeted group is adequately represented and assist in avoiding biased data or methodology from being recorded. Random sampling will also reduce the cost of research by random sampling of 50 percent of the targeted group. This method will provide an effective measurement of how the flow of business related documents are used in the company. The sampling frame the company will use is the employees of the company itself. ...The Wizard of Oz- A Film Analysis ENG:225 Introduction to Film Professor Daniel Burrello April 20, 2015 The Wizard of Oz - A Film Analysis The 1920's and 30's marked the beginning of a new world for movie directors and audiences alike, prompting directors to challenge traditional American values and push the filming process to new boundaries. The early part of the 20th century was tainted with the Great Depression and the beginning of World War II, millions of Americans were losing their jobs, and security became a big concern for the people of the States. Although citizens struggled during these times, they remained hopeful as cinema became the drug of choice through the expensive use of color and sound to transfer audiences from reality to a fairy tale place. Director Victor Fleming's classic film, The Wizard of Oz (1939), gave the audience an 'identity', touching on social attitude and the way people play a powerful role in their own lives through escapism and symbolism throughout the film. In 1939, MGM director Victor Fleming, in collaboration with Harold Rosson as cinematographer, released the classic blockbuster fantasy film The Wizard of Oz, starring Judy Garland as young and innocent Dorothy Gale, a young girl from Kansas who is swept away during a tornado along with her dog Toto. During her adventure in the land of Oz she kills The Wicked Witch of the West played by Margaret Hamilton, and embarks on a journey to find the almighty and powerful Wizard played by...

...Effect of Unethical Behavior Article Analysis Ethics can be defined as “that branch of philosophy dealing with values relating to human conduct, with respect to the rightness and wrongness of certain actions and to the goodness and badness of the motives and ends of such actions.” ("Ethics," 2012). In the article Unethical Behavior In The Workplace, If takes a look at what are the things done to promote ethics but also how some situations just can’t be avoided when it comes to being ethical in accounting practices. We all learn at an early age what is right and wrong from our parents to teachers telling us so that when we are adults we can have morals and ethics in the world. Despite these best efforts of many, people and corporations still act unethical and although their crimes do not cause physical harm is does destroy people and companies in a much worse way and that is financially. Some situations I can tell from the article where people act unethical are “An accountant may embezzle funds from his or her employer for financial gain. Or perhaps the CFO of a publicly traded corporation may prepare financial statements to appear as though the company is performing much better than it actually is, because he or she wants their stock portfolio to increase.” (“Unethical Behavior In The Workplace,” 2008, para. ). Another one it shows an example is “failure for an accountant to conduct an in-depth analysis when preparing and revising financial information. There are many individuals...

Since the late 1990s, however, it has become a model for international efforts to stamp out corruption and improve the business climate in the developing world. ...Determining My Perfect Position If my company is expanding and I was provided the opportunity to choose the position that best suits me it would be crucial to understand what type of leader I am. Doing so would allow me to determine what role I should take that I would be most successful in and would beneficial to the company. Leadership is defined in terms of behaviors, traits, influence, interaction patterns, role relationships, and occupation of an administrative position (Yuki, 2006). To best predict the type of leader I am it would be most beneficial to compare my assessment results to a transactional and transformational type of leader. Once this is done it will be easier to determine which type of leader aligns with my style of leadership. Transformational and Transactional leader Transformational Leader The theories of both a transformational and transactional leadership were both influenced strongly by the ideas of James McGregor Burns, who wrote a highly popular book on political leadership (Yuki, 2006). ...ETH/125 03/03/2015 Historical Report on African American Who are we, where did we come from, what has been our experience since we landed on United States soil? The migration of Africans has been very significant in the making of African Americans history and culture. Today's 35 million African Americans are heirs to all the migrations that have formed and transformed African America, the United States, and the Western Hemisphere (The New York Public Library, n.d.). African American history starts in the 1500s with the first Africans coming from Mexico and the Caribbean to the Spanish territories of Florida, Texas, and other parts of the South (The New York Public Library, n.d.). Although we are most familiar with the documented 1619 arrival, in which Africans were brought to the United States aboard a Dutch ship to Jamestown, Virginia for the purpose of slavery. In the 17th century, the United States nation began to grow and white European settlers need more laborers for the production of crops, like cotton and tobacco. In 1793 the cotton industry began to grow. Cheap labor was needed for the tedious task of removing seeds from cotton, which had to be done by hand. Africans were kidnapped from their native land and sold to share croppers for forced labor. The idea of Africans as slaves was embraced and spread rapidly through the North American colonies; making the modern western slavery, known as indentured slavery, which...
