Week 9 Assignment

It is amazing that after nine weeks of a critical thinking class, I have not only understood what critical thinking means but I can apply it to my everyday life. Based on responses from my week one assignment, I can easily see that my responses were based on common sense responses versus having actual knowledge on critical thinking. I see now that critical thinking is disciplined intellectual criticism that combines research, knowledge of historical context, and balanced judgment. Critical thinking involves applied thinking to its problem or issue. Throughout the nine weeks of class there have been several things I have learned about critical thinking. A lot of the critical thinking techniques have been good ways for me to actively use my critical thinking skills. In addition, there are some that stuck with me, like in week three I learned how to be a critical reader, listener, and viewer. In week five, I also learned the difference between Issues and problems. I tackled that in a two part Learnscape exercise that helped me understand the difference when dealing with a problem with teenagers using drugs. In week seven, I also learned the role of criticism which taught me why critical thinking is necessary and an overview of how critical thinking is applied to problems and issues in everyday life. The way I think critically since the start of this course has changed dramatically because I no longer just look at a problem and let it be or just apply simple knowledge to it. With the help of this course, I now apply true critical thinking strategies to all issues and problems that arise. I put serious thought into my decision making and I also apply my critical thinking to my audience to get them better informed and more involved in our discussion. After reevaluating myself, I have realized I am a more knowledgeable critical thinker. As I mentioned

...CHAPTER II REVIEW OF RELATED STUDY This part of the study is the literature related that have some bearing in the present work. These related studies provide the researcher with some insights and directions in the conduct of the study. Review of Related Literature In exploration, we find new techniques, new knowledge, even develop new substances, gadgets, equipment, processes or procedures, imagination and skill is employed by the researcher. The commodities, new devices, services, in technology are needs of man for a better fuller life which is the concern of the research. These useful arts are the products of the technological environment and the end-user is society in general. The excerpt was stated by Josefina Estolas in the book Fundamentals of Research (1995). Science and technology are essential for national development and progress. The State shall give priority to research and development, invention, and their utilization, and to science and technology education according to the 1987 Philippine Constitution (Article XIV, Section 10). Since computer power was the critical resource, efficiency of processing became the main goal. Emphasis was placed on automating existing process such as purchasing or paying, often within single department as indicated by Jeffrey A. Hofer on Modern System Analysis and Design (1996). A major purpose of a database system is to provide users with an abstract view of data. That...

Week 8 Assignment

...Week 8 Assignment Situation #1 Susan, a pharmaceutical representative, must create a presentation about a new drug recently approved by the FDA. She wants to know the main functions of PowerPoint. Susan’s gathered data includes graphs, videos, and statistics of the new drug. In Susan’s case I would start off by explaining the main functions of PowerPoint and how well this application would work for her situation. The main problems we will face is the fact that she will need to become accustom to the whole process of creating a presentation that will include all the items she would like. My way to get over this issue would be to briefly read over with her the basic guidelines and instructions for creating a PowerPoint presentation, such as how to select a theme, insert data and pictures and anything else I would feel she would need to know. I would try to avoid overloading her with anything I think she may not need to deal with at the time. If I have further trouble understanding any issues she has I would suggest that we try to start from the beginning and try to take her through the process step by step and from there figure out the best process for her to create this project. Once we figured out what she wants then I would go back to trying to take her through the basic process of creating a presentation, advising her how to create a slide, edit slides, and how to add in pictures and video’s as well as graphs for her statistics. If we had further issues with...

...Materials * PowerPoint * Book * Scieszka, J. (2009). Baloney (Henry P.). Baker & Taylor, CATS. Reasons why certain approaches were chosen/rejected There were several approaches that we had to consider before doing the learning experience. As our topic was about language, we had to carefully consider the different types of languages spoken in the classroom. For example, in our power point when we were talking about how different languages are written – the Chinese and Vietnamese language, we had to do extra research on it in order to explain to the audience the reasons why some languages differ from the English alphabet and why some are so similar. The Chinese and Arabic language is combined with different symbols and is completely different to the English alphabet. In contrast, the Vietnamese language is similar to the English alphabet but some of the letters are repeated with different symbols on top of the letters which suggests the different sounds being made when pronounced. For example, the ‘o’ with the hat at the top is in a lower toned compared to the one with a hook on the side. Though the language has different characteristics, we can relate to it in some way, making it easier for us to learn languages that are similar to our English alphabet. When we got the class into groups to discuss the different languages that they can say ‘hello’ in, we considered whether or not there are people from different ethnic backgrounds who speak different languages...

...IT/206 Assignment Situation 1: I would inform her the functions of Microsoft PowerPoint include the ability to present information and data through the form of presentations. PowerPoint allows users to present through whatever number of slides is required to present all of the information that is found. If the user has data or number they wish to present instead of just typing numbers PowerPoint allows the user to input these numbers into various charts, and graphs to give the audience a better view of this information. The user must decide which chart or graph will best represent the data. Users may also add notes to their slides to assist them during their presentations they may also provide printed handouts to help keep the audiences’ attention. For Susan I would ask her how much information and data has she found and they type of information to help her choose type of chart or graph she should use in her presentation. Some challenges would be is would the chart fit what she is trying to present, I could give her options to try out and see which chart is best for her. I would ask someone in another department which chart or graph is best of this data type. If she still has trouble I could email her the solution. Situation 2: To combine presentations you will start by opening the presentations that you wish to combine. Discussion Board Unit 3

...your discussion board for Week 3, use your favorite search engine to research the steps necessary to do an effective presentation using PowerPoint. Explore beyond your first results, and look for information that interests you and that you did not know about making effective presentations. I had found this website while researching steps to effective presentations (http://presentationsoft.about.com/od/powerpointtips/qt/planningppt.htm). This site focuses more on the before steps before you start actually designing your PowerPoint presentation. I thought that this was useful because in order to create a PowerPoint presentation you should be prepared and have your information ready In Gathering your Information they used a saying that caught my attention (Kiss-Keep It Simple Silly). I thought that was a good reminder to not overdue yourself on the presentation. Also I thought that sticking with 3 or 4 main points for your presentation was a good tip because if you use too much information then your presentation will lose the audience’s attention. I found this website Speaking about Presenting at (http://www.speakingaboutpresenting.com/design/effective-powerpoint-presentations/). It caught my attention with the phrases that they used. Avoid cheesy effects and focus on simple design basics. This site also had tips on viewing the PowerPoint presentation pertaining to the backgrounds of the slides and how they are seen from the audience. I found this website which I thought...

Diabetic

...Diabetes Education Community Teaching Due: April 13, 2014 Diabetes Power Point at QCP This diabetes power point was presented at an adult community center in Queens, New York called QCP. This power point highlights the importance of educating yourself on disease and more specifically diabetes. Unlike other diseases that can be managed using only medication, diabetes requires day to day knowledge of the disease including nutrition, exercise and different levels of medication. Type II diabetes can also come on later in life based on diet and exercise or lack thereof. Therefore this power point presentation was important to help people understand how to deal with diabetes and how to prevent diabetes. This teaching plan includes education for both prevention and management of the disease. The power point presentation first describes what type of disease that diabetes is and what exactly the symptoms are. The teaching plan goes on to discuss the three different types of diabetes including Type I, Type II and gestational diabetes. Following along the teaching plan teaches how diabetes is diagnosed and what type of symptoms people have when they have diabetes. This helps people better understand the disease and what their symptoms mean and what causes it. The teaching plan is careful to differentiate between pre-diabetes and diabetes to make sure that people understand the difference before they experience the full blown disease. My teaching plan includes simple learning devices...

Creative Spark Paper

...place in November 2011 at an international convention hosted TED in Brussels, Belgium. Bohannon introduces a modest proposal for easing our economic financial burden through the use of dance vice power point presentations. The idea first came to Bohannon during a conversation with a friend who is physicist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). His friend was struggling to explain a scientific experiment on “lasers could be used to cool down matter”. Science is a subject where the more words that are spoken the more confusing it becomes. Therefore by the end of the conversation with his friend, Bohannon, was more confused. Then thought the experiment could have been explained more clearly through dance. Dance vs. PowerPoint As I scanned the list of Creative Spark videos I decided to make my selection based on the title that grasped my attention. I eventually narrowed it down to three. However the first video that I watched was titled “Dance vs. power point, a modest proposal by John Bohannon and the only one. In no way shape or form am I a science buff. Therefore when his presentation captured and maintained my attention that spoke volumes. Bohannon makes the statement, “bad power point presentations are a serious threat to our global economy” while it sounds like a ridiculous point he provides interesting supporting details. He goes on to explain how we spend $250 million dollars per day on power points and one quarter of them turn out to be a complete...

Brainshark Presentation

...summarized as increasing effective communication process in an understandable and effective manner. The communication process begins with the sender and ends with the receiver. First, the sender needs to know who is the receiver or audience. This is where Brianshark’s Software system comes into play. Brainshark allows the creator of the presentation to target specific viewers. For example, the creator can enhance power point slides and other business materials into interactive presentations for enhancing sales, corporate communications, e-learning and training programs. Of course, the more relevant the presentation is the more the receiver will better interpret the message that was intended. Not only does Brainshark allow you to upload your PowerPoint presentations, it also enables you to add audio and voice along with images and then send the link to your destination. Why is this so important in communication process? This is a good way for the sender to encode their message because receiver can interpret many things based on the tone of the sender. They can excitement and interest, etc. More importantly, the receiver will be influenced by the emotion they sense through the tone in which the audio is delivered Channeling the message through online demand presentation increases the effectiveness of communication process. Audience Analysis

...Audience Analysis Sherrie Anderson Com/285 April 21, 2012 Linda Burr Audience Analysis Speaking in front of a group takes steps the speaker needs to do to prepare the presentation. Audience analysis is one way a speaker can prepare the presentation’s effectiveness. The speaker must explore the different characteristics of the target audience. In the case of a quarterly sales meeting, the audience includes managers, salespeople, and customers. The speaker breaks down the audience characteristics and what demographics make up the analysis. This would include professional and nonprofessional. The speaker must also consider what channel of communication to use at the presentation to ensure meeting the expectations of the audience. This channel can be formal or informal. Formal communication is organized and managed. The information is shared with relevant people within the organization. Informal communication is used within the organization and not used with informational meetings outside the organization. Audience Characteristics The speaker must make sure every member of the audience can understand his or her presentation. The speaker can do this by having a clear understanding of the unique needs of the audience. The speaker must know of any similarities and differences in the audience.
