As the Weight Watchers company website states, the company has over one million active users in 27 countries who attend 29,000 meetings weekly. According to a WW press release, all three subscription types (online, meetings, and coaching) increased in number of users in 2017 (“Weight Watchers Announces”). According to marketwatch.com, WW has been experiencing a steady decrease in revenue since 2012. The 2014 and 2015 fiscal years experienced the largest dips with 2016 having a slightly smaller decrease (“Weight Watchers International”).

Positioning

Weight Watchers is set apart from its competitors because of its unique SmartPoints system, meetings, and online community. Other diet plans offer tracking systems and other aids, but Weight Watchers …show more content…

Weight Watchers products provide various attributes, including the physical and tangible attributes like Weight Watchers specific foods, the PointsPlus program, meetings, online tracking, and coaching.

The company also has intangible benefits. Weight Watchers showcases many success stories on its website that detail the importance of community in succeeding with the program. Other benefits of WW include feeling better about weight, body image, and health on WW’s plan. Many reasons people pursue weight loss programs are for health and intangible or perceptual benefits, like societal perception and peer acceptance.

A benefit of the program is that there are no “forbidden foods” like there are on other diet plans. This means members are less likely to binge eat unhealthy foods. Weight Watchers members also learn about nutrition through the program, equipping them with the knowledge to make healthy decisions and be more conscious about foods. Members are encouraged to lose weight slowly, allowing them to keep the weight off once reaching their goal. Portion control is also a very large component of the Weight Watchers plan, and once members master this skill, they are able to continue their weight loss practices into a healthy lifestyle built on control and healthy,
