Welles Remy Crowther was also known as “The Man in the Red Bandana”. They called him that because he always carried a red bandana with him. He was born on May 17th, 1977 in New York City. Welles is the first of 3 children. He has 2 younger sisters’ honor and Paige. Welles father was a fire fighter and at 16 Welles volunteered as a fire fighter, and became a junior member of the Empire Hook and Ladder Company. Welles attended Boston College. He graduated in 1999 with a degree in economics. After college Welles worked as an equities trader for Sandler O’Neill and partners.

he risked his own life to save others. On September 11th at 9:12 Welles called his mother leaving her a message saying that he is okay. He went down to the 78th floor sky lobby where he saw a group of survivors. In that group he saw a very badly burned Ling Young, one of the women that worked on the 86th floor. Welles then brought Ling and many others 15 floors down. He then went back up to the 78th floor with his red bandana covering his face to protect him from the smoke of the fires in the building. He then found another group of survivors, which included the AON Corp employee Judy who worked on the 103rd floor. Judy was in a lot of pain with a broken arm, cracked ribs, and punctured lungs. Crowther helped putting out fires and assisting people with a first aid kit. According to Judy Wein “If he hadn't come back, I wouldn't have made it”. Welles was then last seen going inside multiple times before the south tower collapsed at exactly 9:59 am. According to the people who survived Welles saved 12 lives that day.
