Hillsborough County Public Utilities Department Leadership Analysis
Presently, I work for the Hillsborough County Government in the State of Florida. The first two and a half years of my career with the County, I worked for the Public Utilities Department. This is one of fifteen departments listed under the Chief Development and Infrastructure Services Administrator. Each Administrator has multiple Assistant Administrators and Department Directors within their structure and each Administrator reports directly to the County Administrator who is appointed by the elected officials serving on the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC).
While the structure and needs of each agency/department are unique to the area they serve, the term “public utilities” may sound familiar. The name “public utilities” identifies the water and sewer systems that are required to be maintained and made available to the public. Even though a government agency or private company (who has purchase the water and sewer rights) is allowed to charge the public for the use of water and sewer, the local governing body is charged with the obligation to ensure all unincorporated water and sewer lines are in continual good and working order. This responsibility falls to a government…...

...Healthcare Utilization and Finance WGU Organizational Systems &Quality Leadership KOT1 Lynnell Fulkerson Healthcare Utilization and Finance Medicare A1. Medicare Part A Medicare Part A covers medically necessary services and supplies including hospitalization and skilled nursing facility (SNF) care. Mrs. Zwick spent five inpatient days in the hospital and 40 days in a SNF. Medicare Part A will cover 100% of the first 60 days of Mrs. Zwick’s hospital stay after she pays the $1,184 deductible. Because Mrs. Zwick spent at least three days as an inpatient in the hospital, and assuming that the skilled nursing facility Mrs. Zwick is admitted to is Medicare certified, Medicare Part A will pay for 100% of her first 20 days in SNF (2013 Medicare Costs, 2012). Medicare Part A also covers days 21- 100 in a SNF with a $148 per day co-pay, however, Mrs. Zwick had a hospital-acquired infection (HAI) of the urinary tract and was unable to participate in rehabilitation for 7 days. Medicare will not cover the costs of those 7 days in the SNF because in 2009 the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) stopped paying for preventable conditions including hospital-acquired urinary tract infections (Paddock, 2007). The skilled nursing facility will not be reimbursed for the cost of care and services for that time. The additional time in the SNF, 13 days, will be covered by Medicare Part A except for the $148......

...IWT1 Task 1 Impressionism and Post Impressionism By WGU student In early 19th century, the French government controlled the academies and salons of paintings. The impressionism took place in second half of 19th century, which was results of French artists rejecting the traditional government sanctioned academic painting that was dominating their arts at the time. The first independent art exhibition was held in 1874 for one month. Few of the famous artists’ who participated and help organize this exhibition was Claude Monet, Berthe Morisot, Pierre-Auguste Renior, Edgar Degas and Camille Pissarro along with 25 other artists. They displayed approximately 165 paintings during this exhibit. This group of artists referred themselves as the Anonymous Society of Painters, Engravers, Sculptors, etc. The artists from Impressionism period intentionally painted which captured the nuances of light and beauty of natures. These artists were against painting a picture of moral messages, as the artists of past they mostly painted in studio. Impressionist had very firm understating of color theory, optics, nature of light, and optical mixing (created much more vivid colors in the eyes of the viewers). The invention of photography had profound influence on the artist of the day, the way they handle perspective in the relationship between subject matters in space. The invention of photography essentially freed these painters to become more abstract with their subject matter, they......

...LIT1 Task A SOLE PROPRIETORSHIP: •         LIABILITY – The owner and the business are considered as one and so the owner has unlimited liability for the business. Therefore the all of the owner’s personal assets, the business’s assets and the business’s future earnings may be at risk. •         INCOME TAXES – All income for the business goes on the owner’s personal income tax returns whether federal, state or local. One advantage of the sole proprietorship is that the business is not a separate entity and therefore is only taxed once on this income, and another advantage is that all business liabilities may be written off as expenses to offset income. Asset depreciation is an example of this. •         LONGEVITY/CONTINUITY – Once the business owner dies, the business is discontinued. He may will the assets of the business to someone else who is then required to create a new entity. •         CONTROL – The Owner has complete control of the business. He can make decisions without having to consult a partner or shareholders. The business owner may assign an employee to make decisions as well. •         PROFIT RETENTION – The Owner keeps all profits from the business and is subject to all losses. Therefore, the owner is allowed to not only recoup his investment into the business, but is also allowed to keep all profits from the business to spend or save as he wishes. •         LOCATION – The owner can simply decide to operate in another state, but must comply with......

Viability of Product Gaia’s Organic Dog Treats is a small but rapidly growing business located in Atlanta, Georgia, which derives the majority of its income from the production and direct-to-consumer sale of organic, grain-free, gluten-free dog treats. Its two best-selling products are 100% organic meat jerky (no additives or other ingredients besides meat) and organic dog biscuits made of unique, non-grain ingredients and offered in distinctive shapes such as miniature cupcakes, pizzas, etc. The company is also developing ancillary products such as dog shampoo that leverage the brand and increase sales to its existing customer base. ...(JDT) Task 1 September 6, 2014 JDT2 Task 1 To: CEO From: Elementary Division Manager Date: September 6, 2014 Subject: Response to Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 claim made by former employee. A. Constructive discharge is defined as when a worker resigns due to a hostile work environment created by the employer (elaws, 2014). This can occur when an employer makes significant changes to the terms or conditions of worker’s employment (elaws, 2014). In the case of the employee who filed a claim, the work hours were changed to 12-hour shifts, with four days on and then four days off. The four workdays can occur any of the days of the week. The former employee claimed that the workday could be on a religious holy day. In this case, there is cause to claim constructive discharge. The work hours changed significantly from when the employee was hired. To determine whether constructive discharge was used in this employee’s resignation, there are two tests. First, a reasonable person in the employee’s position would find the working conditions intolerable, and second, the employer created an offensive work environment with the intent to force the employee to quit (Constructive Discharge, 2014). B. Title VII: Section703 of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 that applies to employment decisions; mandates that employment decisions not be based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin (Gomez et al, p. 92). ...her ability to create and nurture deep relationships with those around her. As a woman, her style lines up with studies that show women are more likely to excel in some of the key abilities that successful interactive leaders possess (Daft, 2014). The CIO is also an employee-centered leader. The IT&S Southern Division balances approximately 300 projects within its portfolio at any given time. Considering this workload clear goals must be set and carried out through the talented employees that are distributed into specialized areas of the hierarchal structure. The CIO must depend on the department heads and managers of each area to efficiently and effectively complete the tasks required to meet these goals. The CIO initiates structure by meeting with the leadership team and together they set clear tasks and goals for the organization. Once the goals are agreed upon and communicated to the organization, the CIO provides the support needed to meet the goals. Her support consists of giving time to meet with managers and staff to listen and give advice, as well as, the resources and tools the teams need to meet the goals. The empowerment and consideration she gives to the managers to make their own decisions and lead their specialized areas assists in increasing output and the autonomy encourages them to be more engaged in the projects. With one of the stronger leadership qualities of the CIO being relationship building, the CIO is able to use the situation leadership......

...Western Governors University Student: Anne Jaymes Student ID: 000320202 Course: EST1 Task: 1 (310.2.1-05) Social Responsibility Jaymes Page -2- Part A: Evaluate Company Q’s Attitude Toward Social Responsibility “Company Q is a small local grocery store chain located in a major metropolitan area. They have recently closed a couple of stores in higher-crime-rate areas of the city, reportedly because these two stores were consistently losing money. After years of requests from customers, all of their stores have started offering a very limited amount of health-conscience and organic products—all of which were high margin items. When asked by the area’s food bank for donation of day-old products, management declined deciding instead to throw the food away, citing worries over lost revenues due to possible fraud and stealing by employees who might say they are donating the food.” Evaluation of Company Q: Businesses are in business to make a profit. Businesses that are in business to make a profit with a total disregard for all else, is capitalism at its worst. A company who habitually relies on or exploits others and gives nothing in return, is a parasitic company. In order for companies to positively co-exist with their stakeholders, they must work to minimize the negative impact their business has on them. It was not against any business law, for Company Q, to close two stores that were located in higher crime-rate areas of the city that were......

...AST1 - Task 1 Strategies for Motivating Intermediaries Higher Margins – Offer higher margins to dealerships to incentivize promoting our new line. Special Deals – Extended terms for stocking inventory Premiums – Tiered discounts for volume unit purchases. Cooperative Advertising Allowances – Subsidizing a portion of the dealership’s local advertising cost. Display Allowances – bonus payments for premium floor space in high traffic areas. Sales Contests – Incentivize the dealer’s sales team to promote our scooter over the competition. Advantages and Disadvantages Higher Margins – This has the advantage of offering a higher return to the dealership and/or the salesperson. However, the difference of a percent or two of commission sometimes can get lost in the overall picture if the item itself is a harder sell. Sales people usually follow the path of least resistance. If a competitor’s product has more market recognition and a buyer is asking “buying questions,” a salesperson is not going to try to direct the buyer to the higher margined item unless the margin is significantly higher. In an age where competition rules, it is unusual for a supplier to have sufficient margin themselves to incentivize solely on margin. Special Deals – Offering an extended payment term is usually of interest to a dealership. The extended terms alleviates some pressure on their working capital needs. The disadvantage is that it requires an increase in working capital for the......

...EGT Task 1 A. Profit maximization can be calculated from the following 2 approaches: 1. Total Revenue to Total Cost (TR/TC) approach a. Total revenue is calculated by multiplying price times quantity (TR = P x Q) b. Total cost can be calculated a variety of ways, i.e. fixed (TFC) and variable (TVC) costs and also capital and labor composition costs (TC = TFC + TVC) c. Profit is total revenue minus total cost (TR-TC) d. In order to maximize profit, need to find largest gap between total revenue and total cost (TR & TC) 2. Marginal revenue to marginal cost (MR/MC) approach a. Instead of looking for the largest gap in a profit maximization direction, you need to equate marginal revenue is equated to marginal cost (MR = MC) b. The term “Marginal” means next incremental unit c. Marginal revenue is the change that takes place in total revenue divided by the change in quantity (MR = ∆TR/∆Q) d. Marginal Cost is the change that occurs in the total cost divided by the change in quantity (MC = ∆TC/∆Q) B. The calculation used to determine marginal revenue is MR = ∆TR/∆Q, where MR = Marginal Revenue, ∆TR = Change in Total Revenue and ∆Q = Change in Quantity. 1. Marginal Revenue increases when Company A goes from producing no widgets to 1 widget. 2. Marginal Revenue decreases when Company A produces 2 or more additional widgets, which is indicative of a monopolistic market. 3.
