A) Write a brief essay (suggested length of 3 pages) that describes how you would teach rounding with mixed decimals to the nearest tenth and include the following:

1) Identify the grade level for which the lesson or activity is designed.
4th Grade students

2) Identify the prerequisite concepts and skills students have learned prior to this lesson or activity.
Rounding up whole numbers, and knows the concept of place values.

3) Describe the concepts and skills that will be presented in this lesson or activity.

Describe how you would remedy such situations in your classroom.
Some common errors include the following:
1.) Reading decimal numbers incorrectly when there are zeros as decimal place holders in the standard form. In order to eliminate the first common error, I would have the student practice by using the place value chart and align the digits with the chart.
2.) Comparing without regard to decimal place values. Incorrectly identifying decimal places when rounding. To help correct the second common error, I would have the student practice using trailing zeros (that is, append zeros so the numbers have the same place values) so you can make a true comparison of their fractional parts.
3.) Incorrectly identifying decimal places when rounding. To correct the last common error, I would have the student practice locating the correct place value to be rounded by starting with the tenths and calling/underlining the name of each place until the one being rounded is
