TASK 1) Evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of your leadership style (“directing”)

Strengths: The most significant strength of the directing leadership style is providing one source of direction on getting projects completed. Clear and concise expectations are provided to all team members so there is no confusion on what needs to be done, how to do it most efficiently and in the shortest amount of time. Feedback can be given on a case by case basis depending on the employee needs. Some require constant feedback and direction where others can be given the end result needed and will get there with minimal direction. Having one origin of direction minimizes confusion and keeps everyone focused on what needs to be done. This ensures projects get done correctly and on time.
Weaknesses: My directing leadership style’s weaknesses are exposed when employees already know what is expected, why it is expected, and when it is expected. This can cause my leadership style to come off as dominating and unappreciated. A secondary weakness can be exposed if employees tell me that they understand all that is needed on a project, but in reality do not know how to do it correctly. If I do not identify that early, it can cause wasted work and delay. Another weakness with the directing leadership style is it provides less opportunity to build people for a succession plan. If directing drifts towards the dominating side then it can hinder employee development. TASK 2 Compare your leadership style to that of two of your team members

Delegating: the delegating style is similar to my own directing style in that it provides direction to employees on what needs to be done. The difference is…...

...A1. Leadership Style: My leadership style evolved from an autocratic style while serving in the military to a situational style in my current career as a therapy supervisor. My staff consists of sixteen occupational therapists, three occupational therapy assistants, one speech-language pathologist, and ten physical therapists. The staff members are unique individuals with high level of education and various skill levels. Together, they are a highly engaged team. The most senior staff member has thirty-nine years of clinical experience with twenty years as the department supervisor. The most junior staff member has ten months of clinical experience and a strong focus on research. Majority of the staff have over fifteen years of clinical experience and mentor the less experienced staff members. Therefore, I must identify the priorities of the department and the larger organization, the technical and clinical skills of the staff, the engagement of the staff, and adjust my leadership from directing, coaching, supporting, and delegating depending on my staff’s needs and the situation. This style allows me to be flexible in my approach depended on the tasks and actions that I am requesting from them. This style also allows me to support my staff in their professional and technical development. This style resulted in the development of a clinical education program, preschool-aged therapy group, teaching opportunities both in the community and overseas, and home-based......

Sat2 Leadership Task 1

...SAT2 Leadership Task 1 A1.) I am a Participative/Consultative leader. My style on the Leadership Grid is Sound Leader. I believe in empowering my team to participate in the decision making process both as a team and as individuals. My team members are experts in their particular functions, and as such have valuable skills and experience to add to the decision making process. In order not to slip into the Human Relations leadership style, I maintain control of the final decision after getting input from the team, and manage the insignificant day-to-day decisions with an understanding of the needs of the team and the requirements of the project. I set incremental and final goals for the team after we have discussed a project and determined the appropriate path to successful completion. I am aware of personal goals of my team members, and support them while keeping in mind the organizational objectives. a.) One strength of the Participative/Consultative leadership style is that the team members feel heard and are invested in the outcome as they have contributed to the project development and structural process. This means that there is less complaining, more focus on the goals of a project, and generally more willingness to cooperate with other team members in order to reach objectives. Another is that in utilizing my subject matter experts in a given area, I do not myself have to become an expert in each area. I trust my subject matter experts to know their area of......

...SAT Task 2 Personality Traits and leadership styles of great leaders Each person is unique and has their own personality traits that make them different from the next person. Likewise, each leader is different and has their own methods of leading their teams. In order to be an effective leader there are certain traits that research has shown effective leaders have. They are broken down into two categories, general personality traits and task related personality traits. In the figure below you can see examples of the general personality traits of effective leaders. General Personality Traits of effective Leaders (Fig. 2-1 DuBrin, A. , 2013). A self confident leader is a good leader due to his/her self assurance. The ability and confidence to take charge and make (sometimes quick) decisions is important for leaders because it often must be done. Self confidence is also associated with being able to stay calm in stressful situations, another good trait for effective leaders. Humility is an very important trait for leaders to exhibit at the right times. Sat2 Task 1

...if they are on the same page as management. Two strengths for this leadership style are the teamwork aspect and delegating decision-making. Teamwork is a huge strength because it helps things move smoother throughout the process of getting it done. The delegation strength allows the management to really focus on the things that need to be decided on by someone at the higher levels of decision-making. Allowing them to not be bogged down by small and trivial decisions that anyone could make. Two weaknesses for this style are that it can lead to long meetings with team members and it can lead to a reduction in power among management. The long meetings can end up taking time out of the day to over a ton of trivial and pointless decisions that need to be made. The reduction in power is the biggest weakness. Managers are meant to be the one with the power and to enforce the rules; once that power becomes reduced the staff begins to lose faith in the management. Autocratic leadership is similar in regards to the participative leadership in the way that the management is still the final say on decision making. Autocratic leaders actually will just make the decision and assume that all members of the group will just comply. The biggest difference between autocratic and participative leaders is that an autocratic does not delegate anything to the lower level associates. They place a heavy need on getting the tasks accomplished. They will be incredibly assertive and expect that......

Wgu Nut 1 Task 2

...NUT1 Task 2 A. Increase in Quality of Care Electronic Medical Records (EMR) can increase quality of care in many ways. Unlike paper records, EMR is available to multiple members of the healthcare team in different locations, all at the same time. EMR makes it easy for caregivers to have all of a new patient’s previous visit information at their fingertips, which can help with obtaining a more accurate history upon admission. An accurate history will help caregivers make better decisions when planning a patient’s care. Because records are stored in a database instead of on paper, they are safe from natural disasters, forgery, loss, or damage. Many, many years of records can be stored in a relatively small space, which will negate the need for rows and rows of filing cabinets, and microfiche. This makes them easier to manage and retrieve. Less paper also means neater workspaces and better organization in the workplace, and because records are available on the database from multiple locations, the need for faxing or mailing records is decreased, increasing security. EMR can also be used to collect data for Quality Improvement processes, and an EMR system can have pop-up alerts built in to notify caregivers of best practices, allergies, and drug interactions. EMR’s that also have a medication bar code scanning system built in will help to reduce med errors by alerting nurses to wrong patient/wrong dose/ wrong time errors. Electronic Medical Records can reduce patient’s......

Leadership Task 2

...WGU SAT2 Leadership Task 2 A. Leadership Style There are certainly several types of leaders, and both good qualities and bad qualities to every type. While I think most leaders cannot be pinned completely into any one label, my own personal leadership style most closely matches the participative style. The participative style of leadership lends itself toward collaboration within the group rather than dictatorship or authoritarian style leadership that makes firm decisions based on their own personal judgment. Generally, the authoritarian leadership style is considered to be the more traditional type. In the past most businesses operated under the assumption that there were not effective reasons to discuss decisions with staff before making significant changes. This rather militant style of operating businesses can be visualized as a top-down approach; decisions come from above and trickle to those below. This is mostly effective, but leaves the people on the bottom, oftentimes the ones actually doing the labor, with no voice about how to perform their daily work activities. Over time management concepts have evolved into modern techniques that rely more on listening to and understanding the needs of employees as more businesses realize how much more productive employees can be when they have some control in their team or work environment. I do feel that some leadership decisions can and should be made directly by the leader or manager in charge, as there is not......

...Lens and Dilemmas Ethical Leadership C206 April 4th, 2015 Ethical Lens and Dilemmas Ethics is the guiding force in any respectable organization. With a moral compass, especially in the leadership of organization, a company can become compromised and fall into a quagmire of legal issues, a tarnished reputation, and devaluation of company stock if it is a publically traded company. In pursuit of examine my own ethical lens I will analyze the ethical traits of an admired leader, my own traits as exhibited in the Ethical Lens Inventory, and how I make a decision concerning a particular ethical dilemma. Ethical Traits of President Obama My chosen leader for this ethics review is President Barack Obama. President Obama’s two leading exhibited ethical traits are respect and fairness. According to article Obama's Leadership & Character Traits Obama showed the first trait, respect, when he shared his views concerning diplomacy with Iran before he took office. He believed that we should recommence peace talks with Iran rather than pass a bill that would seek to label a group within their borders a terrorist threat which would lead us to locate troops near the Iranian border and escalate already heated tensions with Iran. Obama showed respect in this instance by believing that the past of an organization does not inherently infer that the organization should be disrespected by using force first rather than diplomacy. ...Ethical Audit Ethical Leadership C206 April 17th, 2015 Ethical Audit An ethical audit is important to establish the company’s current weaknesses and strengths concerning how it conducts itself in an ethical manner. An ethics audit will involve evaluating the company’s standard of ethic, it ethic climate, and how well the company’s employees follow ethical standards. One of the first things to evaluate in an ethics audit is if a company has a written code of ethics and how comprehensive it is. Moreover, the written code of ethics should apply to everyone in the company from the top down with a clear zero tolerance policy in place for ethics violations. Included in a comprehensive ethics code should be a method for evaluating and updating the code as on a consistent basis to include immediate updates when an issue is brought under attention due to an issue that has arisen. The review process might involve a committee that reviews the code of conduct along with corrective actions concerning any reported ethical violations. An audit may also look at how employees can report ethical violations such as a confidential phone line, or other confidential means an employee could use to voice concerns to bring them to the attention of the appropriate people within the company. An ethics audit might also review the company's ongoing efforts to encourage and maintain its stated ethics to all employees. Such effort might include posters in break rooms, ethics discussion......

Wgu Egt Task 1

...EGT Task 1 A. Profit maximization can be calculated from the following 2 approaches: 1. Total Revenue to Total Cost (TR/TC) approach a. Total revenue is calculated by multiplying price times quantity (TR = P x Q) b. Total cost can be calculated a variety of ways, i.e. fixed (TFC) and variable (TVC) costs and also capital and labor composition costs (TC = TFC + TVC) c. Profit is total revenue minus total cost (TR-TC) d. In order to maximize profit, need to find largest gap between total revenue and total cost (TR & TC) 2. Marginal revenue to marginal cost (MR/MC) approach a. Instead of looking for the largest gap in a profit maximization direction, you need to equate marginal revenue is equated to marginal cost (MR = MC) b. The term “Marginal” means next incremental unit c. Marginal revenue is the change that takes place in total revenue divided by the change in quantity (MR = ∆TR/∆Q) d. Marginal Cost is the change that occurs in the total cost divided by the change in quantity (MC = ∆TC/∆Q) B. The calculation used to determine marginal revenue is MR = ∆TR/∆Q, where MR = Marginal Revenue, ∆TR = Change in Total Revenue and ∆Q = Change in Quantity. 1. This gives the facility (and Joint Commission) the ability to determine the causative factors contributing to the event, thus giving them the ability to change those factors to decrease the likelihood of occurring again. The RCA answers the who, where, what, why, and how in the event. After the RCA has answered those questions, they can begin to put in place an action plan and begin a failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) to prevent it from repeating (Tools, 2016).
