Whales are said to be the friendliest creatures in the world. They are super playful and the sight of them can make everybody smile. On the other hand, there are always cruel people out there wanting to take these amazing creatures from the world by killing them for food. This illegal act is called whaling. Japan is the leader of this horrifying act has long said it was their tradition and culture to kill whales. To this day there are many health concerns when it comes to eating a whale and many worries about the inhumane ways that whales get killed too.

To compare history to today. In the past whales, have long been hunted for their blubber and oil to make light up lamps in the old days. This made many whaling companies rich. Whereas today …show more content…
With too many seals hanging around, the fish industry in many countries would go broke. With too much krill and plankton in the ocean, nobody will want to go into the ocean to swim anymore, because it would look kinda scary in it.

Japan says that they have no longer been criticized by other people from the culture of whaling. Japan argues that in America, people kill more; cows, pigs, turkeys or chickens in one day, than Japanese people killing whales in a year. America's response to this was that; Yes, this is true, America does kill a lot of animals for their own needs. However, people don't criticize why Japan should do whaling if whales are the almost in the blink of extinction. Besides cows, pigs, turkey, and chicken aren’t even close to being endangered.

As they are becoming close to endangered, and will not survive if they continue to be hunted so intensely. If these animals are not protected, then their immense beauty will not be seen by future generations. Some of the things we hunt whales for are not necessary and we could survive without them. In the cosmetic industry, an alternative to whale oil has been found. Jojoba oil which is made from seeds can be used instead, sparing so many innocent

...practice of whaling is that it endangers the population of whales. They all believe and propagate that under no circumstance should whaling be allowed. However if the facts are examined closely, it appears that their argument doesn’t hold up to what is actually happening in countries that are defending their tradition of whaling. The minke whale is primarily hunted by Norwegians and is also frequently sought after by the Japanese. According to the website of the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN) this whale is listed as “least concern” on their...

...commodities. And as for their meat? A single catch of a large sperm whale could feed a small coastal village for weeks. Although demand for whale meat is ailing and advancements in technology have replaced whale oil with more effective and practical substances, whales are still being hunted and killed. Despite a ban on all commercial whaling certain nations still continue to kill these animals, primarily Japan, Norway and Iceland. The populations of these animals are becoming...

English Literature

...1. Literature of the 17th century. John Milton. “Paradise Lost”. John Bunyan. “Pilgrim’s Progress”. The peculiarities of the English literature of the 17th century are determined by the events of the Engl. Bourgeois Revolution, which took place in 1640-60. King Charles I was beheaded in 1649& General Oliver Cromwell became the leader of the new government. In 1660, shortly after Cro-ll’s death, the dynasty of the Stuarts was restored. The establishment of new social&eco-ic relations, the change from feudal to bourgeois ownership, escalating class-struggle, liberation movement and contradictions of the bourgeois society found their reflection in lit-re. The main representatives of this period is: John Milton: was born in London&educated at Christ’s College. He lived a pure life believing that he had a great purpose to complete. At college he was known as the The Lady of Christ’s. he Got master’s degree at Cambridge. It’s convenient to consider his works in 3 divisions. At first he wrote his short poems at Horton. (The Passion, Song on May Morning, L’Allegro). Then he wrote mainly prose. His 3 greatest poems belong to his last group. At the age of 23 he had still done little in life&he admits this in one of his sonnets. (On his 23d B-day) In his another sonnet he wrote on his own blindness. (On his Blindness) Milton wrote diff. kinds of works. His prose works were mainly concerned with church, affairs, divorce & freedom. The English civil war between Charles...

Marshall Sahlins Department of Anthropology, University of Chicago, Chicago, Illinois 60637; e-mail: m-sahlins@uchicago.edu Key Words: modernity, indigenization, translocality, culture, development n Abstract A broad reflection on some of the major surprises to anthropological theory occasioned by the history, and in a number of instances the tenacity, of indigenous cultures in the twentieth century. We are not leaving the century with the same ideas that got us there. Contrary to the inherited notions of progressive development, whether of the political left or right, the surviving victims of imperial capitalism neither became all alike nor just like us. Contrary to the “despondency theory” of mid-century, the logical and historical precursor of dependency theory, surviving indigenous peoples aim to take cultural responsibility for what has been done to them. Across large parts of northern North America, even hunters and gatherers live, largely by hunting and gathering. The Eskimo are still there, and they are still Eskimo. Around the world the peoples give the lie to received theoretical oppositions between tradition and change, indigenous culture and modernity,...

Nelson, 1979 The Migration of the Indians to the New World. It is believed that the people who Columbus saw when he came to the New World were nomadic hunters from central and East Asia who followed the buffalo and deer. When the herds moved, people moved after them because they were dependent on the animals for food. It is therefore suspected that the herds led the people out of Asia by the north-east, across the Bering Strait and into North America. They crossed the sea by an ice –bridge when it was frozen over during the last Ice-Age. They did not know that they were crossing water from one continent to another. Map 1 Amerindians migration from central Asia into North America. The Amerindians settled throughout North America and were the ancestors of the many Red Indian tribes we know today, as well as the Eskimos in the far north. In general, they were nomadic but some followed settled agricultural pursuits and developed civilizations of their own like the Mayas in South America (check internet reference for profile on this group, focus on...
