I believe that the sun shines after the rain

I believe if you don't get hurt you'll never gain

I believe in not doing things the easy way

I believe that being selfish doesn’t pay

I believe in a second chance

I believe in a life long romance

I believe there is life after death

And standing up to a life of mess

I believe in love at first sight

I believe that revenge isn’t right

I believe that first impressions last

And there is nothing better then a good laugh

I believe that dreams do come true,

I believe there's destiny for me and you,

I believe something good comes from something bad

I believe everyone has one true love

I believe there's destiny for me and you

I believe that good things come to those who wait

I believe love never arrives too late

I believe something good comes from something bad

I believe that for tears of happiness there are tears of sad

I believe everyone has a guardian angel

And the good you do will be rewarded well

I believe absence makes the heart grow fonder

I believe you will lose if you sit and wonder

I believe every experience teaches you a lesson

And nothing cures better then a drinking session

I believe everyone has one true love

I believe sometimes we need a little shove

I believe the whole world is a stage

I believe we only get better with age

I believe that to learn you have to live

I believe that to love someone you have to give

I believe one moment can change your life

And there's still help when you’re in strife

I believe everyone has one true friend

I believe love helps a broken heart mend

I believe in the power of a song

And things will change before too long

I believe living is the best experience

I believe in not laughing at other people’s expense

Protestant Problems

...faith, it is extremely hard for me to understand their faith and what they believe in. I was born into a Catholic family and was baptized and confirmed, but I am not practicing at all. I actually did not even believe in the Catholic faith when I was confirmed, which I know was bad at the time but I continued with the sacrament for my family. Although I do not practice any faith, I associate myself with the Catholic Church because I believe it is easier that way and it keeps my family happy. What is really weird is that when I learn about other faiths that do not have the same thoughts or beliefs as the Catholic faith, I become very angry at that faith. I do not understand why I become angry at other religions besides Catholicism when I do not even believe in the Catholic faith. My boyfriend’s family is Lutheran and they are extremely religious. We sometimes have talks about our different faith backgrounds but when we do talk about it, I immediately put up a wall and do not even care what they say. There are a ton of things about the Lutheran faith that I do not like believe in or like. The first, and most important, problem I have with the Lutheran faith is that they believe in scripture alone. I strongly believe that traditions are necessary for any religion because I believe they lay the foundation for a religion. Without tradition, nothing would be passed down from generations that symbolize that faith. I believe that the Bible is written of oral stories and at that time,...

...live since I was a very little girl. When I was only a couple of months old I was baptized. That was my first spiritual encounter with God. I then proceeded to commit my first communion in third grade. I then received my confirmation when I was in eighth grade. Like I said before God has been a very important part in my life for a very long time. Who is God? What are his characteristics? I believe that God is the person who created me and he is the person I believe in. I also think that God is the creator of the world and that has control over everything that happens in my life. I think that some of God’s characteristics are that he has the ability to make things happen. I think that he makes certain things happen for a reason. I also believe that one of God’s characteristics is to be there for you in your time of need. I believe this because god knows what you can and cannot do. God is not going to give you something that he thinks that you are going to fail at, I believe that he is going to challenge us a human beings but I believe that he is going to challenge us with things that he knows that we can do. A human being is a person that God puts on the earth to represent him in some way. I believe that God makes all human beings different because he wants us to be our own person but still reflect him in someway. I believe that when a person dies another person is born. I believe this because God is going to call people to heaven when he believes it is there time. I also believe...

Ishmael

...Social Science Perspectives 1/20/12 Do We Run the World or do the Gods? In the book Ishmael by Daniel Quinn I think that there could be multiple thesi and it all depends on how you see or take in what Quinn is saying. The thesis that I believe Quinn develops in this novel is that there are two types of people or living beings in the world there are those who think they run the world and there are those who think the gods run the world. Quinn states that there are two types of people or living beings there are takers and there are leavers. Leavers are a being that believe that the gods run the world. They believe that if they are hungry the gods will give them what they need either by sending wild game or by sprouting vegetation. The takers are a being that believe that they run the world and that they were created to run the world. They don’t want to put the fate of their lives into the god’s hands; they want to be in control. So let’s say that the takers are hungry instead of putting their fate into the gods supplying them with food like the leavers, the takers will grow their own food so that they can have what they want, as much as they want and save as much as they want and don’t have to rely on the gods. He constructs this thesis by looking back at the past history of the world and some of the events that took place and are still taking place. He starts by talking about how for centuries there have been stories of how the takers have been fighting the leavers, Cain...

Darwinism

...1. I believe that creationism is somewhat hard to believe. Creationism rejects evolution which is something that I definitely do not reject. I believe that there had to be some point in time where everything began. However, I am not sure what happened or what was created at the beginning. I just do not think that humans just showed up as the way that humans are now and did not evolve from anything. That, to me, just sounds ridiculous. 2. I am definitely a believer in evolution over creationism. I think that the scientific information to back up evolution is too strong to deny. I think the people who do deny evolution are either too stubborn or too naïve and ignorant to believe in it. I definitely believe that there was something that happened at some point in time which helped apes learn certain things that they were unable to learn beforehand which then led to the evolution of humans. 3. I am somewhat torn in the middle on whether or not all species came from one single organism. I think it is definitely possible. However, I think it would make more sense to same certain types came from a single organism. Birds, bats, and certain insects are an example. They have flying abilities with wings which could show that they came from a certain organism. It might just be that they evolved and adapted in different ways which could explain humans with apes and monkeys. 4. I think that being an active Catholic can affect the way you view everything if you let it. As for me, I think...

An Interview with an Athiest

...An Interview with the Unknown Who do you interview when you haven’t stepped outside of your Christian bubble since you left College Station? The only thing I knew to do was pray that God would provide me the wisdom of who I should interview. Thirty minutes later, I received a text message from a good friend of mine that I hadn’t talked to in a couple months. A couple minutes later I received another text message from a different friend as well. Both were non-believers. Automatically, I looked up and thought, “Thank you Lord but can you work that fast all the time? I would really appreciate it.” Both of these friends are non-believers. Laura, the first to contact me, is someone I have known for around 2 years. Logan, is someone that I used to be best friends with but grew apart when I started to have a relationship with Jesus Christ. I was so torn of who to interview. I knew God brought me both of them for a reason. As I sat there weighing to see who I should choose, I decided to interview both. For you to understand both of them a little more, let me give you a brief summary of who they each are. Laura is an Oil and Gas lawyer in downtown Houston. I met her at a bible study Christmas party 2 years ago. She was and still is an atheist. Nevertheless, we hit off instantly and have been friends ever since. Logan is someone, like I stated earlier, who I used to best friends, but with unfortunately we grew apart. Logan is a 22-year-old male student at University of Houston...

Philosophy Paper

...led me to question society itself and realize we give things an identity based on what we are told. The most important thing I learned was the inverted spectrum. I am going to define what the inverted spectrum is, explain what it is, and provide examples how it applies to everyday lives. Then I will explain that the inverted spectrum is important to me because in reality no one can understand my mental state no matter how I explain it, I learned to think for myself, and perception is our reality even though it may be completely false. I will then explain some counter arguments against my reasons such as knowing someone’s mental state because of a similar event or emotion and that we believe what we believe based on facts that are then passed down from person to person. Then I will explain how the counter arguments are incorrect. Finally, I will conclude my argument. The inverted spectrum suggests things are not just input, output because of our own experiences. We do not learn through input and output such as mathematics but our experiences. What this means is someone could pick up a pink crayon but see black but are always told that that color is pink so they see the pink crayon as black but no one else will ever know that. An example of this is you can think something that no one else can or will ever know. Almost like when someone is upset about something and when they explain it and you do not see or understand the big deal. The fact is we are completely alone. Our mental...

My Worldview

...issue of whether he could totally trust what his bible was telling him" (Strobel, Pg 9). I start with this quote because I feel it describes how I feel about my worldview. I feel that I’m Christian, but I am always questioning my religion. Whether or not to believe everything that is told to me. I do believe that God is real and that there is a heaven, but I have this feeling that there is more to it. I believe that I am Christian, because I was raised Christian by my parents. It was the right thing to do, follow my parents’ beliefs. I feel that my worldview is what defines a person and where they stand in life and religion. I believe God is our creator and is our spiritual being. He is the man we pray to; he is the one that created us in his image. I also believe that as a human we will all die at some point, and once we die we would go to heaven. The path to heaven is not easy but with the help of your church and your faith with God we can all get there. I believe that everything that was created in our universe is real and materialist, it was done by God. He made everything real so we could live off the land. I also believe that the nature of it all is real and not an illusion or a dream. I believe all of this is true, because everything I have been taught; has also been backed up with legitimate facts to prove it to be true. My parents as well believe that this is true, and I believe and trust them. I was taught to have open eyes, and what I have learned is that religion and science...

Christian Worldview Essay

...Worldview Essay Introduction I have struggled trying to discover my worldview this entire course because I have always thought of myself as a Christian even though I grew up Catholic. I believe that this course has taught me many different things and the most perplexing of all is that I now believe my worldview is most like Humanistic Naturalism and slightly neutral. In writing this paper I will address questions concerning religion, God, and morality using my opinions that support my conclusion to my own personal worldview. Worldview Assumptions Before this course started I assumed that it would be sort of like Sunday school and we would be learning about and reciting scriptures for seven weeks. I did not understand what a worldview was but assumed it was as simple as how I viewed the world. I assumed the course would be boring and very repetitive. In regards to religion I assumed that everybody who believed in God was Christian. I also assumed that most students’ views of God, the Bible and religion would be similar. My assumptions were not very accurate and I feel much more knowledgeable on the subject of worldviews and religion and the Bible now than I did at the beginning of this course. Who is God? Before this course I assumed people who believed in God believed the same thing about God but depending on who is asked the question, who is God we may get many different variations based off of people’s differing worldviews. For example, a Humanistic Naturalist...

Faith Diversity

...beliefs without bias is mandated of all employees. Acceptance and respect of an individual’s belief system and the rituals required aids in the healing process. Healthcare providers need to address key components of any faith in an open and compassionate manner to promote comfort and healing in all individuals. Respect for how an individual believes, the way they choose to allow growth in their belief system and how an individual chooses to maintain their spirituality are important aspects of the holistic approach to health care delivery Until June 8, 2008 my exposure to any religion had been forced by my parents or used as a way to get out of difficult or unwanted circumstances. On June 8, 2008, I had the first true and lasting heart conversion in my life. The journey since this time has been up and down with many trials and unwanted circumstances and the knowing that the Lord is with me to walk me through. Faith and spirituality are different from religion in my mind and I believe that the Lord meant for them to be different. Religion, to me, is legalistic rituals with rules that tell you what you should and should not do to get to heaven without any power to carry them out. Faith and spirituality go hand in hand and enables individuals to seek the power to live a victorious life in Christ Jesus in this present life. Spirituality can be defined as the way to find meaning, hope, comfort and inner peace and is characterized by acts of compassion and selflessness...

Philosophical Argument on Human Nature

...is to seek the greatest good, happiness, or a moral life. So what makes us human? What separates us as a species yet unites us as well? When searching for universals of humans, many physiological aspects of life can be cited. Human mortality is a largely recognized aspect of being a human. However anything with life, whether it is a plant, animal, man or other, is mortal and has a beginning and an end. So while mortality is something that is found in all humans, it is not exclusively a human quality. We need nourishment to grow and live, but again, so do most other things that have life. We are physically similar, meaning that while there are differences among us, we are all the same species; just as any other species is similar to others in their own species. However, I would consider these qualities as nature, not just human nature. Human nature I believe is something that goes beyond our physiological side. Before I present my argument, I must first define human nature. According to the Oxford Dictionary, human nature is the general psychological characteristics, feelings, and behavioral traits of humankind, regarded as shared by all humans. In this essay I will argue that we can only acknowledge a very limited part of human nature. I believe that all other characteristics that people attribute to human nature can be neither confirmed nor denied to be a part of true human nature. I believe the two core constituents of human nature are free will and individuality...

...much since the beginning of the class, but when I read books or watch films I notice the theme or world view behind them more than I did before the class. The title in some films and books give you a clue as to what they are trying to get across but otherwise you actually have to watch or read to see what it truly is trying to emphasize. Some put their beliefs or religious views into the writing of books and making of the movies. Religion, I believe is just a broad term for different beliefs and that is different than a relationship with God which is what I believe I have. Even though many people argue that the human race evolved from different things such as apes, I do not see that because apes still exist. I do believe that God and science go together and that he makes everything work the way it should, but we are slowly destroying it by not taking care of the home he gave us, Earth. God in his infinite wisdom created things to work together. I have gone to church my whole life, my family has always been very involved in church from the nursery through children’s church. I went to Vacation Bible School every summer and to summer church camp. I have just always known that there was a higher power watching over us.
