Attaining my BSN has been on my mind since the day I graduated from nursing school. It is one of the topics of conversations that I have with my parents, managers, and co-workers. Every time I planned to go back to school something always came up, and I had another excuse to put it off. “Time control is life control”, as Lake & Von Baeyer (2005) mentioned and I did not manage that my time as well. Honestly, I will be glad to scratch it off my list of goals. There is a certain weight that I have been carrying on my shoulders, and I will be glad when it is lifted off. Aside from that, I am excited to learn how to be more of a leader in this profession and the opportunities it will bring me. I’m eager to enter “the next stage of professional and personal development.” (Catalano, 2003)
The thought of going back to school always scared me overall. Writing has never come easy for me. I feared that my writing assignments might not be college level material since it has been so long. Formatting papers in APA frightened me even more. Knowing that I had to take Statistics was an issue for me because I prefer learning math in a classroom with an instructor present. All these things haunted me but my greatest fear would be of failing.
The way I can overcome these fears is to face the fear head on. I will address these as just fears and refocus on the positive aspects like how much better as a person this will make me. I will continue to think positively and filter out these thoughts. That is how I always approach obstacles in my life.
A perfect example would be how I recently completed the Periop 101 course. My fear was being able to learn my new position. Learning about all the procedures and the different services (i.e. neuro, ortho, vascular, etc.) was overwhelming. So I applied myself and did the research. I made notecards with pictures (of proper set up for different

When I discovered that I needed either geography or literature to pass the WASSCE(high school diploma), in other words I cannot graduate without geography since I have never attended any literature class. I realised that I had no option than to readjust myself .I had to set my mind on graduating from high school with my peers. I stopped skipping classes, I was able to attend extra classes after school hours. I participated in actively in geography excursions and presentation, my topic was on volcanic eruption. At the end, I graduated with Distinction in geography. I succeeded because, I had a set goal which to graduate with my mate and was motivated and determined by developing positive...

Write about one specific educational experience from your past where you addressed a fear and overcame it and how you succeeded in this process. I certainly look forward to completing the RN to BSN program on schedule. As an experienced and competent RN of 12 years, my management has given me an opportunity to serve as an intermittent Charge Nurse and a Preceptor on a 24-bed surgical unit. I serve as a Charge RN to my colleagues as well as a preceptor to new hires with BSN degree. I have a good rapport and a good working relationships with my colleagues. Assuming roles a leader with ADN, gave the drive and the motivation to advance my education by obtaining my BSN degree. My employment has offered a scholarship program to any diploma and ADN who have ambitions to advance their education through the NNEI (National Nursing Education Initiatives). I took the opportunity and applied for the program which is now being processed. My biggest fear would be a failure to complete the BSN program on schedule. I want to prove and set examples not just to my daughter, but to my employment, colleague and friends that failure is never an option. ...What do you look forward to as you begin this educational experience and your personal search for purpose? What is your greatest fear? How can you overcome it? Write about one specific educational experience from your past in which you addressed a fear and overcame it and how you succeeded in this process. I look forward to achieving my educational goal in order to become a pediatric emergency nurse. I found this to be my purpose while doing a clinical and I have strived even harder since finding this calling. Completing my education is the most important building block to this cause and fulfilling my end goal. My greatest fear is that I will get complacent and comfortable, miss an assignment due date, and get behind in class. I plan on using my planner and a wall calendar to mark my assignments and tests. This method helped me during my associates and I hope it will help me again in this new chapter. In my skills testing for nursing school I became nervous that I wouldn’t pass. The school I attended made it mandatory for the nursing students to pass a skills testing, such as in IV med administration or NG tube placement, before we were able to attend clinicals. This made me extremely nervous that I wouldn’t pass the skills test, and that I wouldn’t be able to attend any of my clinicals. I succeeded in passing this skills test by practicing my skills almost every day and by reading over the rubric constantly. I also had my fellow peers watch and critique me while I practiced...

...What do you look forward to, as you begin this educational experience and your personal search for purpose? What is your greatest fear? How can you overcome it? Write about one specific educational experience from your past where you addressed a fear and overcame it and how you succeeded in this process. I look forward to building and expanding my critical thinking skills. I’m a new grad and am loving my position but sometimes it frustrates me when I ask my fellow nurses at work about one of my patients and they give me an idea. I get frustrated because usually a “light bulb” goes off in my head and I’m like “that makes perfect sense, why didn’t I think of that”. Like it all comes together. I know it will take time and that is what my other nurses are there for, I just don’t like being the novice, in my previous job I was usually the person doing the training or the person who people went to for solutions or ideas. I also look forward to the all of the doors that will open once I receive this degree. This is one of the best things about being a nurse, the opportunities are endless! One of my greatest fears was pursuing my bachelor’s (actually it started with the beginning when I first enrolled for nursing school) is if I’m smart enough, can I handle it? I always struggled through high school barely graduating but I did it with support of teachers. I do feel that if I can get through nursing school and will get through this program, but I can still feel that fear in the...

Write about one specific educational experience from your past in which you addressed a fear and overcame it and how you succeeded in this process. Besides to have a BSN degree from the program, my goal for the RN-BSN program is to become an effective APA style journal writer in a language of English. English is my second language, and I have to admit that I have fear and difficulty to express fully my thoughts in English. I was hesitating to choose an online program for BSN degree because of the concern for the extensive writing requirement of the program. However, I chose to challenge myself to overcome my weak point for the ultimate goal in career to become an excellent nurse anesthetist. I remember I had the same problem when I was at a nursing program several years ago. It was the first semester, and they gave me a quite extensive journal assignment for a new nursing student. It was a 5-7 pages long APA style scientific writing. I was worried very much because I never wrote an APA journal before. On top of it, I had to write in English! Out of anxiety, I started the assignment a couple of week in advance. I started researching journals and articles and studied APA style. After writing a rough draft, I brought it to the writing center at a school to check the grammar errors and awkward expression. I had to revise...

Write about one specific educational experience from your past where you addressed a fear and overcame it and how you succeeded in this process. I’m looking forward to the actual school work. It is a double edged sword thought because I am not computer smart and I do not have experience in writing papers either. I have been out of school for over fifteen years and my big fear is that I won’t make the grades. I have setup a support systems from fellow nurses who have already succeeded taking online classes to my husband who is in charge of keeping my computer working smoothly. I am the first person in my family to pursue a college degree. My biggest fear was if I was smart enough for college. When I first started I took classes to meet my humanities requirements. I took a class called Good Books not knowing the instructor had recently discovered his Native American roots. Thus all five books he chose for us to read that semester were related to the struggles and accomplishments of the Native American people. Now I was very upset thinking what on earth could reading these books do for me personally or professionally, I felt I was wasting my time and money. I thought if college was about taking classes that did not mean anything to me then maybe college was not where I needed to be. Now twenty six...

Me: My strongest characteristic related to the article "Tips for Successful Students," (Lake and von Baeyer, 2005), include the fact I am a very responsible individual.  When in the classroom setting I always strived to find a seat in the first couple of rows, because I knew I'd benefit from avoiding anonymity - and this stemmed from being responsible and accountable for my self and my own education.  I feel this will help me remain a successful student while transitioning from my RN to my BSN, RN. Preface This isn’t really a teacher’s manual, not, at least, in the sense of a catechism of questions and correct answers and interpretations. Because the questions provided after each selection in Rereading America are meant to stimulate dialogue and debate — to generate rather than terminate discourse — they rarely lend themselves to a single appropriate response. So, while we’ll try to clarify what we had in mind when framing a few of the knottier questions, we won’t be offering you a list of “right” answers. Instead, regard this manual as your personal support group. Since the publication of the first edition, we’ve had the chance to learn from the experiences of hundreds of instructors nationwide, and we’d like to use this manual as a forum where we can share some of their concerns, suggestions, experiments, and hints. We’ll begin with a roundtable on issues you’ll probably want to address before you meet your class. In the first section of this manual, we’ll discuss approaches to Rereading America and help you to think through your class goals. We’ll examine some options for tailoring the book to fit your interests and the time constraints of your term. We’ll also...

...child to his father’s second wife. When Freud was four years old, his family shifted and settled in Vienna. Although Freud’s ambition from childhood was a career in law, he decided to enter the field of medicine. In 1873, at the age of seventeen, Freud enrolled in the university as a medical student. During his days in the university, he did his research on the Central Nervous System under the guidance of German physician `Ernst Wilhelm Von Brucke’. Freud received his medical degree in 1881and later in 1883 he began to work in Vienna General Hospital. Freud spent three years working in various departments of the hospital and in 1885 he left his post at the hospital to join the University of Vienna as a lecturer in Neuropathology. Following his appointment as a lecturer, he got the opportunity to work under French neurologist Jean Charcot at Salpetriere, the famous Paris hospital for nervous diseases. So far Freud’s work had been entirely concentrated on physical sciences but Charcot’s work, at that time, concentrated more on hysteria and hypnotism. Freud’s studies under Charcot, which centered largely on hysteria, influenced him greatly in channelising his interests to psychopathology. In 1886, Freud established his private practice in Vienna specializing in nervous diseases and soon afterwards got to his fiancée Martha Bernays, who came from a well-known Jewish family in Hamburg. In 1888, Freud started using hypnotism in his practice. But, later he dropped it and started...
