Introduction:

A bartender is not a simple autonomous drink mixer he/she is the most important figure in the establishment. He/she must made patrons of the establishment feel welcome, secure and relaxed. Most bartenders know dozens of drink recipes. They must able to prepared drinks quickly accurately and without waste. Bartenders should have the ability to adopt different types of setting for example, hotel settings, party settings or the most common setting is the settings. There are some physical demands that a bartender must possess to seize able to work at different situation s. A bartender has to have a good eye sight and make a past, simple, repeated movements of fingers, hands and wrists, move arms and legs quickly. Must obtain a good hearing capability for he must recognize the words of the customer. Be physically active for long periods without getting out of breath, stand for a long period of time and plenty more. There are qualifications to be a legitimate bartender. First you must 18 years old and above, posses a positive attitude and work well with other team members. Be able to communicate and understand the predominant language of guest, able to work unsupervised. Must have the ability to handle money and operate a point of sale system and mostly be able to work in standing position for a long period of time in safely lift and easily maneuver trays and the most important qualification to be a bartender is the willingness to follow directions and ask questions for classifications to the customers who is buying, for the customer is always right. Bartender has the most important duties and responsibilities towards the customer’s safety and not only to the establishment and people around it. The bartenders duties and responsibilities, maintains a guest focus with performing duties. Assumes 100% responsibility for quality guest experience. Take’s orders from guest and beverages orders from servers. A bartender is different from the servers, the servers duty is only to take orders from the guest and serve them to the guest who is ordering. Also prepares and serve alcoholic beverages and non-alcoholic drinks consistent with the Restaurant standard drinks recipes and record drink orders accurately after receipt into the register system. And the most Important Duties and Responsibilities after the following is to thank the guest for their visit and invite them to return. Attends all scheduled meetings and brings suggestions for improvement. Notify Dining room supervisor or Manager on duty anytime or gust is not 100% satisfied with their experience. For a employee to be good is to follow the leaders and the employee to be better is to be educated and for the employee to best is to be devoted to the work. Bartender has special and most important responsibilities is to know wherever the guest, customer or patron of the bar establishment is intoxicated. How do we know whenever a customer or guest is intoxicated there are major ways to know if a person is intoxicated? But first what is intoxicated or alcohol intoxication. Alcohol Intoxication refers to psychological state induced by consumption of alcohol, which build up in the bloodstream faster that it can be metabolized by the liver.

There are levels:

* Level of alcohol 20-99 mg/dl Impaired coordination euphoria? * Level of alcohol 100-199 mg/dl Ataxia, poor judgment, labile mood? * Level of alcohol 200-299 mg/dl Make ataxia, slurred speech, poor judgment, labile mood, nausea, and vomiting? * Level of alcohol 300-399 mg/dl Stage 1 anesthesia, memory lapse, labile mood? * Level of alcohol 400-499 mg/dl Respiratory failure coma?

Alcohol affects each individual differently. The same numbers of drinks may affect an individual differently today than it did yesterday. What are the signs and what senses Intoxication affects first is coordination, reduced judgment and inhibition change in behavior, vision, reflexes, manners and appearances. Effects in coordination staggers, sways while attempting to stand still holding on to bar, chair, etc. Loss of train of thought stands with feet wide apart or balance leans against structure. Falls off and slurs or trips over words while ordering.
Some effects in Change of Behavior .
Buys round for strangers, Argues/ annoys employee or the customers, consume drinks faster than the usual.

Sudden Change of Mood

Bragging, over friendly, goes a sleep,
Tells use of foul language, throws objects and giggles and laugh for no apparent reason.

Effects in Visual,
Lack of focus, red or watery eyes, droopy eyelids, etc.

Effects in reflexes,
Spills drinks, unable to pick and count money, slow remarks and reactions.

Effects in Manners and Appearance

Headbools, eyelids drooping, frequently rubs hands through face and hair. Frequently trips and bathroom and strong stale of odor alcohol.

One Sign of Intoxication alone may not be cause to suspect intoxication. However, 2 or more of these signs would lead someone to suspect thee person intoxication or becoming one. These services are sometimes beyond the duty or the responsibility of a bartender yet when a employee loves the job or is dedicated everything can be at service.

What is the effect of a bartender knowing the signs of alcohol intoxication on the guest’s behaviors and attitude?

Statement of the Problem:

How could the bartender know when a customer is under the state of alcohol intoxication? And cannot more consume alcohol?

How should the bartender approach the customer in stopping him/her to drink anymore?

What should the bartender do when the situation gets out of hand or really wild?

Who has the most important role to play in the customer responsibility in getting intoxicated?

How would you know when a customer consumed this level of alcohol 20-99 mg/dl Impaired coordination euphoria?

How would you know when a customer consumed this level of alcohol 100-199 mg/dl Ataxia, poor judgment, labile mood?

How would you know when a customer consumed this level of alcohol 200-299 mg/dl Make ataxia, slurred speech, poor judgment, labile mood, nausea, and vomiting?

How would you know when a customer consumed this level of alcohol 300-399 mg/dl Stage 1 anesthesia, memory lapse, labile mood?

How would you know when a customer consumed this level of alcohol 400-499 mg/dl Respiratory failure coma?

Is the bartender really doing his job in and out of the bar premises? Does he do his word beyond his duties and responsibilities?

Significance of the study:

The purpose of the study is to enhance the skills of the bartender in the Philippines and to know how can they compete in other bartenders outside of our country, to enhance their skills in controlling unexpected situations in the bar premises.
