What is climate change?
The Earth's climate has changed over the last century. Increases in average temperatures have been seen around the globe and there is new and stronger evidence that most of the warming observed in the last 50 years is due to human activities.

While climate change is a global issue, it will affect us all. Climate change has the potential to adversely affect our environment, our communities and our economy unless we take action now to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions and prepare for the impacts.
Climate change will alter global and local climates. In Victoria, this means a warmer and drier future, with an increasing likelihood of more extreme events such as heatwaves, bushfires and storm surges.
Climate change is the greatest threat facing our planet today. A warming planet alters weather patterns, water supplies, seasonal growth for plants and a sustainable way of life for us and the world’s wildlife. Climate change has already started, but it’s not too late to take action. There’s still time for us all to be part of the solution.
A continuous flow of energy from the sun heats the Earth. Naturally occurring gases in the atmosphere, known as greenhouse gases – this includes carbon dioxide (CO2) - , trap this heat like a blanket, keeping the Earth at an average of 15 degrees Celsius – warm enough to sustain life. The overuse of fossil fuels is increasing CO2 in the atmosphere, trapping more and more heat and warming the Earth. As a result, we’re seeing more dramatic weather patterns across the globe resulting in devastating natural disasters and shrinking the world’s ice shelves and glaciers due to warming sea water. Because ice acts as a solar reflector, the less ice there is, the less heat the Earth reflects. WWF provides more detail on the impacts of climate change on our polar regions, glaciers and more.

What Is the Effect of Climate Change to the Increase and Decrese of Labor Force?

...Climate Change is a long-term shift in the statistics of the weather affecting production and consumption patterns. [1] Today, we are living in a globalized world where huge changes in production and consumption patterns have dramatically affected not only the economy and the environment, but also our social conditions. [2] Changes in the climate will have an enormous impact on employment and the labor market in general. First, over 1 billion people are employed in the agricultural sector which is the second greatest source of employment worldwide after services. It is clear that climate changes such as extreme weather events, increased incidence of droughts and floods, variability in rainfall patterns, and degradation of lands will have an influence on the agricultural sector. With this, many millions of people working in the agricultural sector will have to face change in the way crops are produced or even look for new pastures elsewhere. The agricultural sector will decrease in size because of the negative effects of climate change. Nowadays, typhoons come and go and so is true with the scorching heat. These extremes damage plantations. This is the time where we are already getting too much of what we wanted. Gone are the days where there is enough rainfall, average temperature, and nice environment. Climate change upsets farmers because most of their crops are wrecked by typhoons and the increasing temperature. With that, there is a tendency that the number of farmers...

Beyond Cop21 - What Does Paris Mean for Future Climate Change Policy?

...Beyond COP21: What does Paris mean for future climate change policy A response paper highlighting the future issues of major environmental disasters and the backdrop of what the future looks like. ------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------- Sushrut S. Vaidya (20155042) Introduction: The changes caused by the terror of the human realm revealed itself to the world at the COP21 (21st Conference Of the Parties), known otherwise as the 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference that was held from the 30th of November to the 11th of December 2015. Although people’s awareness of climate change and perceptions about its effects vary at the regional and national levels, the overall change patterns illustrate how climate change is truly a global issue. The issues discussed during the conference were related to what the Earth faced because of climate changes, the result of which was the regulation of global temperatures upto 2 degrees Celsius as compared to those of pre-industrial levels. All the 196 parties that attended the conference signed the Paris Agreement, the document responsible for the regulatory measures, for the very first time. It was with the highest concern that the motion for a global change was put forth. History of COP and the start of the concern towards climate change: The history of global concern towards climate changes dates back to the late 60’s and early 70’s. In response to growing...

...Outline for Climate Change Introduction: Why does climate change matter? Biochemically speaking, why is temperature so important? Temperature is critical to biochemical reactions, because it determines the effectiveness of the enzymes controlling the reactions. What is an ectotherm? ectotherms, organisms whose body temperature depends on the surrounding environment. What is the connection between performance and temperature in ectotherms? For these organisms, how fast they grow,1 how quickly they move,2,3 and almost everything else about their behavior and functioning is affected by external temperatures. What is the Goldilocks principle? And to what can it be applied when it comes to temperature? Goldilocks principle when the temperature is just right, enzyme activity is maximized. It is the optimum temperature, where an enzyme or things work at its best. Can be applied to enzymes, performance, population growth rates. How does temperature relate to species richness? As temperature increases the species richness (the number of species in a given area) increases So, what’s the big deal? many biological processes exhibit the same basic hump-shaped relationship with temperature, in which temperatures that are too low or too high impair or sometimes even terminate critical biological processes.1This is why climate change is the focus of so much scientific research. Part 1: Detecting climate change What is the difference between weather and climate? How is this...

...effects of climate change which is important in dealing with the impacts of climate change that are already happening as well as preparing for future impacts (UNFCCC, 2008). Adaptation planning enables countries to generate and implement national adaptation plans so as to identify medium and long term adaptation needs. Adaptation planning is a continuous process; that is guided by the country. This process is participatory, transparent and gender sensitive in planning for current and future climate change impacts (UNFCCC, 2008; Preston et al, 2011). When generating developing adaptation plans governments, regional authorities and local communities must, together plan and decide on...

Climate Change

...Climate Change and How the Media Portrays It The average educated person would define climate change as the average weather changing or global warming. It is patterns of temperature, precipitation, humidity, wind and seasons. Climate is what makes up all natural ecosystems and is what helps sustain these ecosystems. The climate change today is changing the world. It’s affecting the natural ecosystems negatively. This is because climate is tied to almost everything. The change in climate will change the way people, animals, and plants have to survive. For example, a change in the usual timing of rains or temperatures can affect when plants bloom, when certain bugs hatch, or when streams are at their highest level. This can affect pollination of crops, food for migrating birds, spawning of fish, water supplies for drinking, forest health, and much more. Many people mistake global warming and climate change to be the same thing. Although they are very similar, global warming is what causes climate change. Global warming is the rising of global temperature and ocean temperature. This is what causes the climate change events listed above. Global warming is a global event while climate change is a more regional change in the atmosphere. There are many people who think climate change is not happening. The National Academy of Science has studied climate change and confirmed that it is real and humans are causing it. According to the Climate Impacts Group at the University...

Westernization on a Rampage

...Rampage Prospectus Franceline Kingu 103416713 Dr. John Cappucci Media, Technology and the Environment: 40-364-30 October 20th, 2014 Westernization on a Rampage Brief Review: A great amount of how we live affects the world we live in, what I decided to focus my final term paper on was the affects of climate change and what forms of justice our world is doing to help minimize the consequences. Climate change is defined to be a statistical change in weather arrangements that exceed a period of time. When climate changes, many things are forced to change in order to adapt. What we have realized but are neglecting to make changes within our lifestyle for, is that the world is reaching what scientists are calling a “Tipping Point”, which means we have thrust and pushed the environment far enough. Thesis: Our culture, more specifically, westernization and the excessive demands of the rich and the prominent has caused our world to transform and more importantly was and is a driving force to climate change and the deterioration of animal life, human life and the worsening of our planet earth. Major Arguments: 1. Climate change has affected a major part of or world, which is animal life. Due to the drastic change in our climate over extended period of time animals have become at risk, close to extinction and that is a cry for help. Why I focused on animal life wasn’t for the obvious reason; that they are in danger and some close to extinction, rather it is in argument that...

People have substantially contributed to the multiple direction development of the world. They have entirely composed the world better and better. However, what human have done for their environment contributing to the destroyable life in recent decades in terms of climate change. Climate change can be defined as the long- term shift in weather conditions identified by changes in temperature, precipitation, winds, and other indicators. Climate change is caused by many factors, therefore, to some extent, human activity has subsidized to the effects of climate change on people’s life with two primary causes: industrial activities, and land use changes. Firstly, the development of industry for recent year has mainly risen the dangerous level of climate change. Constantly, the huge number of Carbon dioxide has been emitted to the atmosphere by resulting from automobiles, industry, electric power plants. Electricity is considered as the main factor causing CO2. The reliable prediction is given that manufacturing electricity in the future will cause the increase CO2 emissions from 10 billion tonnes per year to 12.5 billion tonnes per year (Climate Change – The Science. 2014) . The high Carbon dioxide rate directly effects on the changing of climate process. Human-related emissions are responsible for the increase that has occurred in the...

Persuasive Essay On Climate Change

...Climate Change: Debate Unit Research Design Journal Marco Palomares [Working Families] Mr. Delcambre Professional Communications 1B April 20th, 2017 Introduction Since the 1760s, fossil fuel has become the primary source of energy. We used fossil fuels for over two hundred years. Today, fossil fuel such as oil, powers most of our modes of transportation. Then coal and natural gas powers our electricity. Over the two hundred years we used fossil fuels, it has developed a problem that only got bigger over time. A problem that we face not only as a nation but as the human race. The problem is climate change. Climate change is caused by natural or non-natural greenhouse gases released into the atmosphere. Modern human activities have increased the release of non-naturally occurring greenhouse gases because we have boost our demand of burning more fossil fuel. The following design cycle explains my point of view [Working families] on climate change. Criterion A Need for...

Climate Change and Weather

...EFFECTS OF CLIMATE CHANGE ON WOMEN Introduction Definition of basic terms What is Weather? The term weather describes the state of the air at a particular place and time – whether it is warm or cold, wet or dry, and how cloudy or windy it is, for example. It affects many of the things that we do, from the clothes we wear and the food we eat, to where we live and how we travel. As a result, the weather is of great interest to people everywhere, from meteorologists, the scientists who study it in great depth, to you and I in our everyday lives. In fact, one of the main topics of conversation is often what the weather will do next the .Weather is very changeable and unpredictable. What is Climate? The normal pattern of weather experienced in a particular area over a long period of time is known as the climate.   The climate tells us how hot, cold or wet it is likely to be in different parts of the world at different times of year. For example, tropical countries have hot climates and the Antarctic has a cold climate. The climate may include four seasons a year - spring, summer, autumn and winter - or a wet and a dry season. Our climate depends on our position on the earth and our distance from the sun. We will learn more about this in the Days and Seasons section.  What is weather forecasting? Weather experts use computer technology and data from stations and satellites all over the world to predict the weather.   By carefully monitoring weather conditions it is possible to predict...

Impact of Climate Change in the Caricom Countries

...Impacts Of Climate Change in the Caricom Countries What is Climate Change? According to ‘oxforddictionary.com’ Climate change is a change in global or regional climate patterns, in particular a change apparent from the mid to late 20th century onwards and attributed largely to the increased levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide produced by the use of fossil fuels. Climate change is already beginning to transform life on Earth since around the globe, seasons are shifting, temperatures are climbing and sea levels are rising. Pertaining to climate change it has both natural and human causes and short and long climate forcer. Also it has dangerous effects such as higher temperatures, changing landscapes etc. In the Caribbean, the states in the region formed an organisation that is called Caricom where they joined together to work on various matters. The fifteen (15) Caricom countries are Antigua and Barbuda, The Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Montserrat, Saint Lucia, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago. Focusing on climate changes in the fifteen (15) Caricom countries in the Caribbean, it is considered to be one of the biggest threats to nature and humanity towards them because it can bring about negative and destructive effects caused by short lived and long lived climatic forces. Mostly likely in the Caricom countries, they face potential economic impacts of climate change with their agriculture...

Exploratory Essay Climate Change

...Stedman 1 ! Jack Stedman February 15, 2015 Ms. Rindler Exploratory Essay Should we be worried about abrupt climate change and the resulting effects? Climate change is an issue that has been the talk of the last decade. It is an issue of great concern, and in my opinion there should be more news coverage and awareness of what is happening on our planet. In a study done by the China Center for Climate Change Communication (jointly established by the Research Center for Journalism and Social Development of Renmin University and Oxfam Hong Kong) where they called and surveyed 4,000 Chinese adults they reported that "93 percent of respondents say they know at least a little about climate change. 11 percent say they know a lot, 54 percent know something, and 28 percent know just a little about it. 7 percent have never heard of climate change"(Kim 319). Personally, I find this to be abysmal. I feel it should be educated in every school. In this essay, however, we will explore whether we have to be worried as to what is going to happen to our home planet, Earth. In the article, Storm Warnings: Extreme Weather Is a Product of Climate Change, from Scientific American, the author, John Carey, explores the effects that climate change has had on our weather. John Carey is a freelance science writer and editor. He was the senior correspondent for Business Week magazine for 20 years. This article is the first part of a three-part series, and Carey goes on to explain that in the past few years...

...Environmental Change 17 (2007) 445–459 Barriers perceived to engaging with climate change among the UK public and their policy implications Irene Lorenzonia,b,, Sophie Nicholson-Coleb, Lorraine Whitmarshb a School of Environmental Sciences, University of East Anglia, Norwich, NR4 7TJ, UK b Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research, School of Environmental Sciences, University of East Anglia, Norwich, NR4 7TJ, UK Received 25 August 2006; received in revised form 12 January 2007; accepted 17 January 2007 Abstract This paper reports on the barriers that members of the UK public perceive to engaging with climate change. It draws upon three mixed-method studies, with an emphasis on the qualitative data which offer an in-depth insight into how people make sense of climate change. The paper defines engagement as an individual’s state, comprising three elements: cognitive, affective and behavioural. A number of common barriers emerge from the three studies, which operate broadly at ‘individual’ and ‘social’ levels. These major constraints to individual engagement with climate change have implications for achieving significant reductions in greenhouse gases in the UK. We argue that targeted and tailored information provision should be supported by wider structural change to enable citizens and communities to reduce their carbon dependency. Policy implications for effective engagement are discussed. r 2007 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved. Keywords: Climate change; Engagement;...
