The Crucible by Arthur Miller is a play that focuses on the inconsistencies of the Salem witch trials and the extreme behavior that can result from hidden agendas and others desires. Miller focuses on the discovery of several young girls and a slave playing in the woods, conjuring or attempting to conjure sprits from the dead. Rather than acknowledge their actions and accept their punishment, the girls accused other residents of Salem of practicing witchcraft. The girls avoided punishment by accusing others of the exact same things they were guilty of. This finger pointing resulted in mass paranoia and a fear that everyone was potentially a witch. This created a cycle of distrust, accusation, arrest, and conviction. By the end of …show more content…
There was a series of hearing being held to investigate conflicting accusations between the United Sates Army and Senator Joseph McCarthy. The army The Army accused chief committee counsel Roy Cohn of pressuring the Army to give preferential treatment to G. David Schine, a former McCarthy aide and a friend of Cohn's. McCarthy counter-charged that this accusation was made in bad faith and in retaliation for his recent aggressive investigations of suspected Communists and security risks in the Army. These hearing were being broadcasted live on TV. Again, many false accusations and false confessions created panic among the people of the United States that they were being overrun by Communists. .
I viewed two different version of Act III The Crucible, Director Nicholas Hytner. Performed by Daniel Day-Lewis and Winona Ryder and was a Twentieth Century Fox Film 1996 and the The Crucible, Director Suzanne Macguire. It was performed by the Lewis Clark High School of Spokane in 2012 performance.
A film and a stage production may present the same story and lines, but the back drops, sets and props may have limitations and differences between a film and a stage production, where the audiences imagination may have to assist to achieve the same
