Lucky In Love- Companion Book
Chapter One:
Lucky in Love is an example to all of us that money can’t buy happiness. Kasie West, the author, was trying to explain that what we have is enough. Maddie, the protagonist, once said that if she won the lottery all of her problems would be solved and she would be able to live her life as a fairy tale. She would finally have her happily ever after, but she’s convinced that never will she play. Since she says that the probability of being struck like lightning are greater than the chances of winning the lottery. Besides, she wasn’t eighteen, yet.
When Maddie’s birthday arrives, it’s a total disaster. Her parents fight, her brother eats her sugar cereal (-that she gets once a year), her father’s credit card is declined at her birthday breakfast (-so she pays her birthday bill instead), and nobody shows up to her birthday party. All is down, so she runs to the store to get a bag of candy. So much for a great eighteenth birthday. Once there she decides to buy a lottery ticket instead of the candy, because she doesn’t have enough money to pay for both. Due to having to pay for her …show more content…
Maddie won the lottery! Now all of old her problems are solved. How to afford college, house payments, her brother’s student loans, a new car, a new phone, and now her parents won’t fight about her father not having a job. On the other hand new problems are occurring. People are trying to take advantage of her, her parents are fighting more than ever, her brother dropped out of school and is trying to gamble for money instead, her friends envy her so she can’t talk to anyone, a reporter ran an article on her displaying all of the crazy things Maddie now enjoys, and people are everywhere but all of them are just out for her money. Her life's turned upside down, and now she’s starting to learn that the little moments in life are greater than any material item that money can buy. If only she had known

Hunters in the Snow

.... English Composition 1102 Fiction Writing Assignment Chapter 1 – “Hunters in the Snow” 1. Discuss the way Tub is presented in the opening scene. Does your assessment of his character change in the later scenes? The character of Tub was presented in the opening scene as someone who would not stand up for himself and was willing to be ridiculed and made fun of to be part of a group. He allowed his friends to take advantage of him by making him wait over an hour in the cold and snow, accepting this behavior without even an apology. Tub was a character with low self esteem and was embarrassed of his weight, which allows him to make excuses and lie to everyone. The assessment of Tub did not change at the end of the story. He was still the same character as in the beginning. He moved up in his position as friend to Frank which made him feel better, but at the expense of Kenny’s health. Tub still had low self esteem, but he ended up acting as selfish as Frank. Chapter 2 – “How I Met My Husband” 4.  Is Edie a sympathetic character? How does her status as “the hired girl” affect the way you respond to her as a reader?   Edie was a sympathetic character. Her self-described title “the hired girl” affects the reader’s response as it portrays her with low self esteem. She comes across as not fitting in because she was not in the same social standing as Dr. and Mrs. Peebles. The reader becomes sympathetic with Edie compared to the other characters due to her being a simple...

...Travis Almeter Mrs. Peters 9/9/09 English 12 Response to Nineteen Eighty Four by George Orwell Part 1 Chapter 1-3 The world in which Winston's life takes place seems rather dark and dreary because of how cold and broken down things are. I think it would be quite creepy living with telescreens, Big Brother posters, and knowing that the Thought Police can be watching you at any moment. The slogans of The Party contradict the beliefs of modern American society. The Two Minutes Hate is almost cult-like with their anger and yelling. I was unsure who would be at his door so early in the book, but Winston was lucky that it was just his neighbor. The kids are out of control traitors in my opinion. It's absurd that children that young would want to go see a hanging. I find it hard to imagine how scared and alone he must feel because everyone else is so strongly supportive of The Party and he is committing severe crimes by writing in his journal against them. I think Winston may meet his mother later on because of the dream he had about her. It must be hard when you cant rely on your own memory. Sometimes what you think may be real is just imagination. I also think physical fitness in this society is important because of the stretches he is forced to do, but sanitation and personal medical issues like his ulcer are ignored. Chapters 4-6 The Party changing past news and facts to resemble truth of the current era is a waste of time and unnecessary. They are just trying...

Ruth

...10MAR13 NJBC PM Intro & Welcome: Joke: Overview: This was a true event that happened in history, but it also presents the way of salvation to us today in simple explantion. • In chapter one, we see Ruth deciding to follow Naomi and to adopt Naomi's people as her people and Naomi's God as her God. "Where You Shall Go, I Shall Go, Your God shall be my God" • In chapter two, we see Ruth working and serving. It's a picture of our role as believers in Christ, and God's providence to his believers though a savior. • In chapter three, we see Boaz marrying Ruth and saving her from her suffering, and it's a beautiful picture of how Christ rescues His people from sin. Boaz, from Bethlehem, is often referred to as "the kinsman redeemer". • In chapter four, we see Ruth enjoying a bountiful reward and inheritance that she didn't earn. It was given to her by grace. Today, we are looking at Chpater 2. This is a beautiful love story between a man and a woman. . … and between a God and His people. Ruth Chapter 2 Now Naomi had a relative on her husband’s side named Boaz. He was a prominent man of noble character from Elimelech’s family. 2 Ruth the Moabitess asked Naomi, “Will you let me go into the fields and gather fallen grain behind someone who allows me to?” Naomi answered her, “Go ahead, my daughter.” 3 So Ruth left and entered the field to gather grain behind the harvesters. She happened to be in the portion of land belonging to Boaz, who was from Elimelech’s family. 4...

Chapter One

...CHAPTER ONE In the Beginning Dear Female Eye Reader, My editor tells me there has been much interest in my story, even before I officially begin to tell it. There has also been a bit of ridicule that I would be so naive as to imagine I could ever find a man who lived up to all of my Ten Commandments of Love and Marriage. I disagree. Before I begin the journey to revisit my exes to see if my Ten Commandments blinded me to a man who was perfect for me, I should at least let you know what they are: 1. He shalt love me as he loves himself. 2. He shalt not kill my dreams. 3. He shalt not steal my confidence. 4. He shalt not covet my attention. 5. He shalt not skip date night. 6. He shalt not complain about me to others. 7. He shalt not lie to me. 8. He shalt not covet porn. 9. He shalt not cheat on me. 10. He shalt honor family above all. You may think these were written by a sixteen year old girl. You would be right. But even at thirty, I believe in them deep in my gut. I’m not even going to correct shalt to shall here, because that sixteen year old girl thought shalt was strong enough to convey just how unbreakable these commandments should be. Are they too harsh? Revisit my exes with me and let your gut be the judge. Cordially, Diana Hudson aka Queen of the Lists CHAPTER TWO List Not, Lest You Fall Thirty. I turned thirty at 4:06 a.m. Awake. Alone. Eliza heard what Mr. Shelby said and he planned on escaping with his son because he don’t want to be far from it. She told her plan to her husband hoping that they will reunite in Ohio. Mr. Haley knew this and followed her when she tried escaping. She escaped in Ohio using only a floating ice on the river and that made her escape Mr. Haley. On the other hand, Tom stayed with Mr. Haley because he believes that Mr. Shelby will be disappointed if he will run away. Mr. Haley and Tom, traveled. While they were travelling, Tom saved a little girl from drowning which was Little Eva. Augustine St. Clare bought Tom from Mr. Haley to make him the personal servant of Little Eva. Eva and Augustine were both kind, unlike the mother of Eva. Tom and Little Eva became close to each other and comfortable. Eva became ill and when she was about to die he gave something to the servants so that they will remember Little Eva. Biblical Worldview

...Darren J Black Jr Daryl Neipp BIB 105 7 September 2015 My Biblical Worldview: How does Genesis 1-11 effect it? Introduction How does Genesis 1-11 effect my worldview and how does it contribute to my everyday life. Reading these chapters has a big impact on my life and there are so many things that it covers in such a condense amount of time. You have Adam and Eve being created and how that effects my worldview on marriage in the world. Also how we define ourselves as a man and a woman and the different roles of each of us that the bible defines for us. How Cain and Abel relantionship with each other defines how we should act and not become jealous with one another. The wickedness in the world when Noah was here and how the Lord saw the world was so evil and destroyed it, which is kind of how I look at our world today. There many topics in these chapters that I will discuss and explain how all of this effects my biblical world view today and what I think of all of it in this paper that I am writing today. Natural World The 1st chapter of the bible pretty much sets out the natural world and all that is in it, in Genesis chapter 1 to 2 the LORD our God makes everything light, darkness, land, sea and all the creatures in the world. He creates Adam and later Eve somewhere to live and basically live off the land. This chapter is the reason the natural world exist and that God was gracious to give us so much in it. Without the beast that roam the earth or the birds that...

How to Be an Orange

...Chapter 1: Physical Appearance You, being an orange, want to stay fit and healthy. You want people to enjoy eating you. Here are some tips about the way you should look: 1. Work out to ensure maximum juice inside you. 2. Make sure you take care of your peel. Don't let it get brown. 3. Brush and floss daily to ensure you don't go bad while waiting to be eaten. 4. Enjoy being eaten; it is what you were made for. Let out lots of juice. People like it. 5. Don't squeal or make any noise when being eaten. People will get scared and will not eat you. Now that you have some idea of how to stay fit and healthy, let's take a look at how people react to oranges of different physical states. If you exercise lots, you gain lots of juice, and bigger wedges. People love this because the juice is refreshing and they get more of it from the bigger wedges. People will eat all of you instead of just half or part. You also want to be aware of not getting too juicy. If you do, you turn out to have sour juice, and people will call you 'poop', throw you on the table, and then in the trash. No orange wants to have their self-esteem crushed like that. If you take care of your peel, people won't just throw you away without even opening you. When your peel turns brown, they think you have gone bad and are rotten. So for all of you California oranges, no sun tanning! That goes for all of you. You should stay nice and cool in the fridge. Plus, if you stay cool, people will enjoy...

Angela's Ashes

...Rivera 1 Rivera 1 Paola Rivera Wld Lit O Ms. Ziemlak Monday, November 28, 2011 Angela’s Ashes Questions: 1. I liked Angela’s Ashes a lot; I thought it was a very powerful literary text. The moment when Frank says, “ Worse than the ordinary miserable childhood is the miserable Irish childhood, and worse yet is a miserable Irish Catholic childhood” (6). At this moment I immediately could recognize that Angela’s Ashes was going to be an emotional memoir of the author’s life. I enjoyed the fact that this was a bildungsroman novel, meaning it was a coming-of-age novel. In being this type of novel we see how Frank evolves from a naïve boy into a man who is surely to prove nothing like his father. 2. Through the novel, I was able to identify the following themes: Drinking in Irish culture, Hunger and Food, Antagonism between Presbyterians vs. Catholics, Poverty, and Honor. Drinking in Irish culture, is seen as a way to escape the hardships of Irish life, Frank’s father uses this as an excuse to keep drinking, and he is also motivated by others to do so. Hunger and the value of food is one of the most important themes, given that a lot of the suffering the McCourt’s have to go through id the scarcity of food. Since their dad is an alcoholic who can’t keep a job, the kids usually suffered from sever hunger all the time, their dad would rather spend the little money he earned on a pint, and what was left was used on cigarettes for him and Angela. The Antagonism between...
