Effects of Brand Associations on Consumer Response

...An executive summary for managers and executive readers can be found at the end of this article The effects of brand associations on consumer response A. Belen del Rõo   Facultad de Ciencias Economicas, University of Oviedo, Spain Rodolfo Vazquez  Võctor Iglesias  Facultad de Ciencias Economicas, University of Oviedo, Spain Facultad de Ciencias Economicas, University of Oviedo, Spain Keywords Brand image, Brand equity, Consumer attitudes Abstract This paper studies the dimensions of brand image, focusing on the functions or value of the brand as perceived by consumers. In this way, four categories of functions are identified: guarantee, personal identification, social identification and status. By way of hypotheses, it has been proposed that these functions have a positive influence on the consumer's willingness to recommend the brand, pay a price premium for it and accept brand extensions. The hypotheses have been tested in the Spanish sports shoes market and were partially supported. The results obtained confirm the convenience of analyzing brand associations separately and enable the ascertaining of the brand associations that are the most relevant in order to attain certain consumer responses. Introduction Over the last decade, firms have markedly increased their investments in the creation and development of brands. In fact, in most economic sectors a gradual brand generalization can be observed, even in those markets that have traditionally been more reluctant...

...ARTICLE IN PRESS Int. J. Production Economics 106 (2007) 323–345 www.elsevier.com/locate/ijpe Organizational structures and the performance of supply chain management Soo Wook Kimà College of Business Administration, Seoul National University, San 56-1, Sillim-dong, Kwanak-gu, Seoul, Republic of Korea Accepted 12 July 2006 Available online 26 September 2006 Abstract The objective of this paper is to suggest a set of best organization structures for efficient supply chain management. For this, this paper derives organization types for supply chain management according to the formalization and centralization level of an independent department responsible for supply chain management (SCM) activities, and hierarchical relationship in organizational position and operational responsibility between the SCM department and existing other functional departments. And then, this paper identifies organizational characteristics, which have significant influences on SCM performance by investigating the difference in performance across the proposed organization types. From the results of empirical test, this paper finds that even though too excessive formalization and centralization of the SCM department within a firm may interrupt complete SC integration and performance improvement, a certain range of control by the SCM department is inevitable to build the fundamentals of integrated supply chain management, and thus the temporary pursuit of intensive control focused organization type such...

The Influences of Social E-Shopping in Enhancing Young Womens Online Shopping Behaviour

...CUSTOMER JOURNAL OF BEHAVIOUR The influences of social e-shopping in enhancing young women’s online shopping behaviour Charles Dennis, Brunel University, UK* Alesia Morgan, UltraSoft Technologies Ltd., UK Len Tiu Wright, Business School, De Montfort University, UK Chanaka Jayawardhena, Loughborough University Business School, UK Abstract The background to this paper is that shoppers, particularly women, are motivated by a variety of different reasons, including socialising and enjoyment. Despite the growth of Internet retailing (e-retailing), these social needs are largely unmet in e-shopping. In the high street, women do most of the shopping but online shopping (e-shopping) tends to be dominated by male shoppers. At the same time, social networking is growing fast and is especially popular amongst young females. The purpose of this paper is to draw on prior research about why people shop in order to explore the concept of social e-shopping, based on combining e-shopping with social networking. We propose that shoppers, particularly young females, will prefer social e-shopping to traditional e-shopping. We carried out a qualitative study for our propositions with a comparison experiment, semistructured questionnaire and focus group, to compare a traditional e-shopping website with a social e-shopping one. The findings reveal that young women prefer social e-shopping sites. Both utilitarian and hedonic young adult female shoppers found social e-shopping enjoyable and...

...Brands and Branding Steering Group, and participants at the Marketing Science Institute Research Generation Conference and 2004 AMA Doctoral Consortium for helpful feedback and suggestions. BRANDS AND BRANDING: RESEARCH FINDINGS AND FUTURE PRIORITIES ABSTRACT Branding has emerged as a top management priority in the last decade due to the growing realization that brands are one of the most valuable intangible assets that firms have. Driven in part by this intense industry interest, academic researchers have explored a number of different brand-related topics in recent years, generating scores of papers, articles, research reports, and books. This paper identifies some of the influential work in the branding area, highlighting what has been learned from an academic perspective on important topics such as brand positioning, brand integration, brand equity measurement, brand growth, and brand management. The paper also outlines some gaps that exist in the research of branding and brand equity and formulates a series of related research questions. Choice modeling implications of the branding concept and the challenges of incorporating main and interaction effects of branding as well as the impact of competition are discussed. Marketing Plan

...Introduction It’s as far back as I can remember, when I’d see a product on television that captures my attention, I’ve always had this feeling overcome me. It was at that very moment that new things become a priority for me. I can remember always shouting that I must have that particular item in my life immediately. This is the very same projected ideal and sentiment intended to manifest within the marketing demographics of the newly popular Hoverboard. This technological prototype seems to offer a wide range of impressive but also simplistic hoverboard models. Living in today’s technologically advanced society, creators have been able to provide buyers with our most basic purchasing desire; variety. Some offer consumers the ability to mobilize themselves through the motor-powered two-wheeled model. Others that are bit higher-end offer consumers the ability to levitate off the ground onto the board using a magnetic gravitational technology. Never the less, regardless of the budget or style, the new popular fad has caught on with consumers and is certainly carving out its own place in the market. Features The Hoverboard features are limited but tend to range from Bluetooth capabilities to the synchronicity of GPS mapping and assisted personal transport at speeds between 5 to 8mph. Creators have also found ways to add cosmetic appeal to the devices that directly is reflective in pricing such as LED lighting or AM/FM radio. Some celebrities have gone as far as special ordering...
