Looking at my transcript, many of my peers joke that my only goal in life is to work for that perfect GPA. Close friends, however, would wholeheartedly disagree. While keeping exceptional grades is an essential goal that I consistently strive towards, the driving force behind my education is undoubtedly my never-ending curiosity and thirst for knowledge. There was honestly no class I ever disliked, no subject that causes me to cringe like many of my friends do when discussing math, science, or social studies. What sparked this endless love for learning were the countless teachers I've had the pleasure to meet. Beginning from elementary school, the support I received from those around me encouraged me to challenge myself to become the very

Gpa Assignment

...What is a GPA? GPA is an abbreviation for grade point average. It’s a calculated average of the grades that you earn in school. You receive a GPA at the end of each semester based on the grades that you earned. You receive a good GPA by keeping good grades because a GPA is based off of how good your grades are, or how bad they are. The highest GPA you can get is a 4.0 and the lowest is a 0. You actually can get higher than a 4.0 but that’s really hard to get because you have to have extra credit in all of your classes. The highest GPA is a 4.0 but sometimes it can be higher depending on what school you go to. The lowest your GPA can be is a 0, which is really bad, and means that you absolutely no work. If you do no work or anything...

Personal Narrative: A Career As A Physician Assistant

...What Does It Take To Be A Physician Assistant? The day I was diagnosed with Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD) was the day I decided I wanted to be a physician assistant (PA). I went through a lot of doctor visits with many doctors. I experienced what it is like to be the patient and the frustration that comes when there is not a cause and reasoning for pain, thus I want to be the PA that can provide compassionate care, give back, and try to avoid the frustration that I had to experience. Three schools that I have chosen were Wake Forest University, Baylor College of Medicine and Rush University. I chose Rush University because it is close to my parents, thus I could probably live with them and just commute to save money. I chose the other...

...office from all the new computer parts, and I remember watching him for hours solder components onto a PCB. From a young age I’ve been around computers and I doubt I’d be studying computer science today if it hadn’t been for my dad and uncle. As I grew older though, and as computing grew as well, I began to learn that there was much more to computers than displaying pictures on a screen. I quickly saw the endless uses for computers, from medical research to business to military defense systems, every field I looked at was using computers in some way. So while my father and uncle being computer engineers got me interested in computer science the reason why I chose to continue to study and pursue a career in this field was mainly because I saw what massive impact computers had in the advancement of society and I wanted to be a part of...

High School GPA

...At every school in America, there are students that go to school and work their hardest each and every day. They take the hardest classes and challenge themselves more than anyone in their school. At most schools these students are rewarded for deciding to take the difficult route and challenging themselves by means of a weighted GPA. However, there are also students like this who go to schools that do not have a weighted GPA, and the difficult classes they take weigh the same as a general level class. This is why state governments should introduce a statewide high school GPA, so that equality is provided to every student, especially when it comes to applying to college. Applying to college is important and a statewide GPA scale would positively affect this because, “Honors and advanced-placement classes and also can positively affect an admissions decision” (Weaver 1) and with this said GPA system each student would have the same opportunity as those who go to a different schools across the state. Grading systems have been around since the very beginning of schooling. Instructors needed some way to rank their students so they had an idea of how their teaching was affecting them.“In essence, grading is an exercise in professional judgment on the part of teachers. It involves the collection and evaluation of evidence on students' achievement or performance over a specified period of time, such as nine weeks, an academic semester, or entire school year” (Guskey 2). In the beginning...

...How to choose course In this part, we would talk about cognates and writing points. First year students usually don’t understand what are cognates and writing points. They are likely to choose some unnecessary courses. What we do is to play the role in guiding freshmen. We would show them how to search a cognate and how to search courses that have writing points. We would explain those in details and combine our illustration with pictures. 2. How to use resource (library, writing center, ARC) Freshmen may only come to library to study but they don’t know how to borrow books. That’s we are going to show them. Since ENG105 is compulsory for all freshmen, students need to write lots of essays and writing center is a great institution that could revise our essays, especially we Chinese students don’t have a strong English writing ability. We would show them how to make use of all available resource on campus. 3. How to transfer to school of business administration A lot of students want to transfer to school of business administration but most of them don’t know how. Smart Goals and Self Leadership Goals

...setting of goals (GCU, 2013). With that being said, I thought deeper into what I wanted out of life, and what I needed to do to achieve this. In addition, I am now able to apply my knowledge of SMART goals, and identify my developmental level with each goal to reveal my motivation and competence (Blanchard, 2010). Applying this I am going to first explore my personal goal of spending more quality time with my eight year old daughter, discuss my educational goal of earning a 4.0 GPA in my graduate program, and my professional goal of becoming a University Development Manager for my company. As a single father, I’m continually noticing my quality time diminishing with my 8 year old daughter. Between my job that needs my attention in the day and night, being in Graduate school, cooking, cleaning, and helping her with her homework, I’m finding that there are not enough hours in the day to spend time with her on a personal level. I used to spend approximately 15 quality hours a week with her. Now I’m lucky to get 4 hours in a weeks’ time. She’s still a straight “A” student, but I can tell she is wanting more time with her daddy, and it hurts me not to have enough time to give her. When looking into my developmental level of this goal, I can definitely say that I’m a D1 (low competence, high commitment) (Blanchard, 2010). I’m not quite sure how to make this time that I want, but I’m very motivated to do what it takes to get these hours back every week. I feel like my time management...

Personal Responsibilty

...could perform many tasks at once and be successful. Ever since, I always have an image that if I participated in activities at school then I would do poorly in my school work. I never pushed my limits to the maximum to challenge myself. It was as if there was a wall standing in front of me blocking me from being successful. I was always afraid that the consequences might be permanent and my grades would drop. For years, I have always focused my energy and time into studying and being successful for my future. I never participated in any activities in or outside of school. I would sometimes help my dad and mom take care of the housework because they have to work hard to keep the house financially stable. Maintaining a 3.7 or higher GPA throughout my middle and high school years, I was very happy with my academic accomplishments. In my sophomore year, my vice-principal and counselor encouraged me to join an after-school activity so that I would be qualify to be a member of the National Honor Society during my junior year. I gave a lot of thought to this during sophomore year, and I decided that I should at least try one sport. I joined the baseball team, but because of my lack of skills, I was cut from the team. However, I did not give up because my motto is "Once you give up, you give up everything including life." I always go by this simple...

Globalization

...and loss for others. A lot of us though don’t know the real meaning of globalization, in the book Bound Together it once describes it as this, “the process by which the experiences of everyday life, marked by diffusion of commodities and ideas, can foster a standardization of cultural expressions around the world” (Chanda, 2007). I took this as one-day actions can change the whole word, such as expressions, beliefs, authority, identities, and many other minor changes for a person’s life. Who are the globalizers and how long have they been doing this? In my opinion the globalizers can be anyone, but mostly the dominant cultures, and countries are the ones who do the majority of globalizing. A lot of countries don’t have freedom to believe what they wish, speak a certain language, work where they want to work, live with all their family members, and enjoy life. In other parts of the world there is a lot of freedom, you can believe in a god, or no god, you get to choose where you want to live, have a good paying career, live with nice clothes, and things, and most importantly enjoy your life. With these different accommodations, I think there are many different personal identities that arise from it. I will be informing you and sharing my opinion on the personal views, benefits, and downfalls of personal identities. The Measurement of Education Through Testing

...The Measurement of Education Through Testing A lot of people have trouble deciphering what it actually means to be educated people because of the difficulty of finding a precise and accurate measuring tool to this cognitive ability. The closest measuring tool we have in our modern day era is the use of standardized exams and grade point averaging to try to figure out just how educated and learned the students in today’s world are. Measuring education in this modern school system is mainly based on end of the year final exams and standardized measuring numbers such as grade point averages and SAT scores. Although these exams and numbers do give a roughly good measurement of a certain student’s education level, it doesn’t necessarily mean that said student is as smart as those scores, which is the true wanted result to measure of these tests. These tests do require a certain level of cognitive ability, but there are other situations that can be factored in to take away the validity of these tests to a certain degree. For example, if a student studies solely for the SAT since the beginning of their high school career, they will most likely post a score that puts them well into the high upper percentile of the nation. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean he/she is the same percentile in cognitive ability in the nation. Not that there is any wrong doing in studying for the SAT for that lengthy period of time, but it shouldn’t such a solid truth type of test to measure how smart...

Nurse

...for the profession is something that came to me rather recently in my life. In fact, what inspired me to pursue nursing was my experience with my pregnancies and the birth of my second child. Second child? Yes, I have two babies. So maybe I am going about things in a somewhat unorthodox manner, but it sure makes for an interesting and challenging learning environment. Given my life situation, maintaining a 3.3 GPA in my undergraduate studies and a 3.5 GPA in my prerequisite coursework has proven difficult, though I hope my persistence and hard work will ultimately pay off. The delivery of my first-born child was by way of cesarean section. While it was perfect and beautiful and completely orchestrated, I knew almost immediately after the birth that if I were ever blessed with another baby, I wanted to do things differently. When that time came around, the plan was to attempt a vaginal birth after cesarean section (VBAC). Jumping feet first into this “plan”, I made sure to complete hours upon hours of research as to be armed with applicable information to provide to my obstetrician. While I knew VBAC deliveries were not necessarily favored in the medical community, I never anticipated the difficulty I would face when proposing my wishes. After a long and trying search, I found the most amazingly talented and confident doctor who assured me that she would do everything she could in order to make my dreams a reality. When labor day came, she kept true to her word and helped...
