What Success Means to Me

Being successful can be viewed in many different ways, such as being happy, having a nice house, being rich, being a good mother, or having something to make someone envy you. Many people only look at success in two ways: popularity and money. To me, success means to set a goal for myself, plan the steps to achieve it, carry through with the plan, and finally to achieve my goal. There is no better feeling than when you have finally accomplished your goal that you’ve set for yourself.

My first goal is to earn my degree in my chosen profession which is Marine Science. I never really knew what I wanted to do in terms of a career. I knew what hobbies I loved, and so I decided to turn them into something that I would do for the rest of my life. The next objective that I’ve set for myself is to find the perfect job in the career field that I have chosen that is best suited for me. There’s a quote by Confucius that says “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life” and that is what my aim is for myself. The last goal that I will accomplish is to travel someplace that I’ve never been before every year. I’ve set a few goals for myself in life, and I plan on accomplishing them all.

Now that I know what my goals are in life, I have to start planning the necessary steps to achieve them. For me to accomplish my first goal in life I have to decide which University overseas could help me in earning my degree after I have completed my Associate Degree at UCCI. There are a few that I have been delving into, and only two caught my interest: the University of Tampa and Plymouth University. After I have attained my degree it will be time for me to acquire the perfect job. Even though a lot of people tell me that once I finish my degree I am more than likely not going to find a job in my chosen career field, I don’t let that statement discourage me from doing what I love. The last goal that I have set for myself is self explanatory, and the steps are quite easy. In fact, I have already begun this goal that I have set for myself. This year I went to my father’s home country Honduras for the first time, and I’m still debating where to go next year. To achieve your goals in life, you need to plan the steps to reach them.
Next I have to commit myself to the goals that I have set out so that I can achieve them. I know that for me to begin my journey to get where I want to be in life I have to apply myself to my studies. By studying hard for exams and completing my assignments I am ensuring myself that I will finish college with the best grades that I can get, and this will lead me to being accepted to my chosen University. For me to commit myself to travelling someplace new every year I have to force myself to save the money that I make, and that can be quite difficult when you have responsibilities to deal with. Committing myself to the goals that I’ve set takes a great deal of work and patience, but the key is to not push myself too hard and let some steam off once in a while.

Once I have accomplished my goals I can finally reap the rewards. By earning my degree I can get the dream job that I want and afford my travels. To me there’s nothing better than travelling the world, meeting new people, understanding different cultures, and trying different foods. To me that is a reward worth committing myself for.

When you set goals for yourself you want to be absolutely positive that it is what you want from life. Before you begin your journey to achieving your goals make sure to plan the steps to reach them, and at the end of your journey when you’ve committed yourself to the goals that you have set the rewards will be something to look forward to.

What Success Means to Me

...What Is Success In My Opinion Some people may measure success by a large house, a cool car, a boat or maybe even a cottage by the lake (I think I just may have listed the American dream). However, my definition of success doesn’t list any of these. In my opinion, success does not have anything to do with material goods but rather happiness, health and overcoming the struggles and the hard times. One of the ways I measure success is in how happy a person is. Some people may feel the happiest when they are around luxurious items. However, this is not a true measure of success. Happiness for most people including me is a happy and loving family. My family is what will define most of my success. Also, happiness means trying new things and a lifestyle that supports positivity which will make me a happy person. I also consider health a defining factor in success. People feel unsuccessful if they, or someone they love, are not healthy. For instance, can parents feel successful if their child is ill? This is why doctors, nurses, and hospitals are so important. Not only do they allow people to live longer, but they also allow people to feel successful in their life. Finally, success to me also means overcoming the hard times. No one likes hard and rough times filled with tears and pain. Often when I overcome the pain it feels like I have accomplished something it might even be as little as a...

...responsibility my life would be chaos. Taking personal responsibility for my education is extremely important because failure is not an option for me. Even though it is sometimes difficult to take personal responsibility, accepting responsibility for my educational goals will help me to succeed in college. The definition of personal responsibility to me simply means that I am accountable for all my activities in my life such as my health, finances, my family, school, and my home. Personal responsibility, in my opinion, is also reflective of my personal ethics. Definition of Success

...Lynn Breedlove ENG 1101 4 October 2013 Success In this nation we have a concept called the “American Dream” that everyone strives for. It suggests that if you work hard, you can eventually earn a lot of money and do as you wish. Everyone typically wants to purchase an extravagant house, luxurious cars, designer clothes, and a high paying job that will make them financially stable. These kinds of people measure success on his or her material possessions and there monetary value. True success has nothing to do with material possessions, but comes from a deeper place that is much more substantial than money. When I was younger my father and I would take long rides on his truck every weekend. On these long drives we traveled from state to state and would have many in-depth conversations on success. One time in particular, I remember we were driving along the highway and I saw a 2003 Cadillac Escalade. When I was younger this was my favorite vehicle and I told my Father when I got older I was going to purchase one. My father told me that in order for me to purchase one of them when I got older I would have to be successful. So, I asked, “What does that mean?” He replied with, “You have to go to college and work hard and get a good job.” Looking back at the conversation, my father related success with money as many people do. I thought it was funny that his idea of success did not correlate with my thought of the word. I always thought success had to do with how you thought of......

Personal Responsibility

...EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL SUCCESS PA11BSB08 Professors Name January 3rd, 2013 Introduction The key to a successful future starts with being accountable for one’s own actions. And to obtain that key, it is necessary to have an understanding of what it means to be personally responsible. In this essay, I will cover the following; the definition of personal responsibility and what it means to me, I’ll explain the relationship between personal responsibility and college success and include a preliminary plan to ensure I practice personal responsibility in my college education. Defining Personal Responsibility According to "Bouncy--Addition" (2012), Personal responsibility can also be referred to as "accountability," which is defined by Merriam-Webster as "the quality or state of being accountable; especially: an obligation or willingness to accept responsibility or to account for one's actions." This should generally be taken to mean that, to be accountable for oneself, one would admit to one's mistakes, make an attempt to make those mistakes right, and live in a way that does not harm others whenever possible (para. 2). I agree with the quoted statement, but to me it also means following laws, rules, and regulations, etc. I have an obligation to read all chapters and turn in my homework on time. Also, I am accountable for my own actions; because no one should have to tell me to do my homework.......

Personal Responsibility

...Personal responsibility essay This essay is about what personal responsibility means to me, the way how I see personal responsibility is really important for college and life success and a plan to incorporate effective strategies for success as a student. As I said it before when I wrote the personal responsibility outline in week one, Personal Responsibility means to me to be in charge of my own life and to be responsible of my actions as an adult weather in school or home. I have always thought that personal responsibility could be one of the most important lessons to learn in life. I believe that personal responsibility can affect all aspects of a person’s life if we don’t understand its meaning. To me personal responsibility and college success are strongly linked. A student needs self-discipline to study independently until the subject is mastered, Students have to learn to take responsibility for their education no one else will if we don’t do it ourselves. We as students need to organize our time and activities to be able to accomplish our homework, goals and whatever the case might be. Students have to learn how to manage their own time and this is not possible if we don’t have personal responsibility. To me Personal responsibility provides motivation. The urge to complete a project, not because of a desire but because of a person’s satisfaction and dignity, I think it helps students through difficult concepts, tests, and other hardships till they accomplish...

It is my responsibility to decide in what ways I want my life, career and schooling to flourish. No one can tell me what to do or how to do it; it is up to me to make that determination. In order to be successful in college I need to be aware of my personal responsibility. If I am responsible in my decisions, setting aside enough time for homework, staying on top of assignments, and contributing to my learning team, then I will be successful in completing my college education.
