Charles De Gaulle Airport, December 1998: I was glad to return to Paris, almost a year later, towards a week of meetings in the region of Giverny, north of the city. In different countries and dates the management team of logistics, supply chain, human resources, engineering, finance, business and communications had their meetings and was now the turn of Corporate IT. A company car took us to a nice medieval castle, where we would meet with the Vice-Presidents of IT, Finance and Human Resources of the Americas, Europe and Asia Pacific. Orchestrated by the French nuclear power industry, the plan included a restructuring worldwide in 30 countries where technology companies in the area of connectors automotive, electrical and electronics were acquired or merged, which would later become the FCI Corporation, the 4th largest solution provider in the field of connectors. And the Brazilian subsidiary was within the company's plans, since the country conditions offered to host of many tech pilots of several technology waves due to the complexity of our legislation, continental distances, low risk / cost of local operations and for harboring two BU / MU completely separate at the same site. Once successful in Brazil, a global project would be easily implemented in other countries. The challenge would be to prepare the team for local managers, year after year, exceeding all expectations of daily operations, corporate projects and global clients: the next twelve years would forever change the way we think, act and relate in an environment as complex and challenging, consolidating fifteen different cultures, many different technologies, laws and practices of corporate IT Processes and Business. The valuation of Being Human, Executive Education programs and Governance (MIT Boston) inside and outside the Corporation's business and technical training from the factory floor to the Top Management, a flawless communication plan, calling for innovation and a focus on quality and client resulted in worldwide acceptance in companies like GM, ABB, GE, Lucent, Nokia, Motorola, Huawei, Mitsubishi Electric, the French Air Force, NASA, Siemens to name a few, accumulating awards in several countries due to the advanced technology of its connectors and services. Security and Loss Prevention

...with the advances in technology comes an advance in the way fraud is being committed against corporations. Individuals can hack into corporations’ computer systems from anywhere in the world. This makes it hard for investigators to find the individuals who are committing the fraud. Fraud can also be committed from within the corporation. There are measures a corporation can take to protect their assets against fraud. A corporation should have a comprehensive control program in place to help prevent fraud from being committed against the corporation by outside hackers and employees. Comprehensive Control Program A corporation should have a comprehensive control program in place to help prevent fraud from happening. A comprehensive control program should have three components: fraud education, fraud prevention, and fraud investigation (Fraud Prevention, 2011). This program should educate everyone in the corporation about fraud and how to help prevent fraud. The program would monitor the companies systems, records, and employees through the internal controls. Armed with the proper knowledge about fraud, employees can help monitor each other and prevent fraud. If fraud is suspected, this program should be equipped to investigate to determine whether or not fraud has been committed and how it was committed. This benefits the corporation by letting everyone in the corporation know that there are policies and procedures in place to protect the company and its employees...

...Chapter 9 Derivatives: Futures, Options, and Swaps Chapter Overview This chapter provides an introduction to derivatives, and examines both their uses and abuses. Reading this chapter will prepare students to: * Explain derivatives. * Understand how derivatives can be used to transfer risk. * Analyze the pricing of derivatives. Chapter Outline I. The Basics: Defining Derivatives A. Derivatives are financial instruments whose value depends on (i.e., is derived from) the value of some other underlying financial instrument or asset (these include stocks or bonds as well as other assets). B. A simple example is an interest rate futures contract, which is an agreement between two investors that obligates one to make a payment to the other depending on the movement in interest rates over the next year. C. Such an arrangement is very different from the purchase of a bond for two reasons: a. Derivatives provide an easy way for investors to profit from price declines, as opposed to the purchase of a bond, which is a bet that its price will increase. b. In a derivatives transaction, one person’s loss is always the other person’s gain. D. Derivatives can be used to speculate on future price movements, but because they allow investors to manage and reduce risk, they are indispensable to a modern economy. E. The purpose of derivatives is to transfer risk from one person or firm to another, providing a kind of insurance...

Performance Management

...Kollar-Stenseth BUS 318- Organizational Behavior August 19, 2013 Performance Management Performance management is needed in order for a team to succeed. This is where everyone is expected to work and do their job as trained and expected. Most corporations and major companies already have their own plans, and their own performance management system that are in place to keep everyone on the same page. By having the system in place it is going to give everyone the same motivation, purpose, and reason for working. With having the performance management in place the job must be created into many different categories, which allows different people doing different things and not having one person is the lead. You tend to see this type of management with companies and universities where the performance management is used to motivate employees and team members. All in all, we are going to try and evaluate the way that supervisors and managers are handling the teams and check for possible improvement. I know that there are going to be other ways of managing a company or team, but believe that performance management is one of the most effective ways. One of the greatest strengths of any organization or company is human labor. When we talk about human labor you have to understand that it is hard to keep an employee that has a good performance if they are not getting anything in return from the company. According to the Human Resources Department at the University of Indiana,...

Liquidation and Dissolution

...Abstract In discussing the differences between a corporation that is liquidated and one that is dissolved, I will be defining the terms and what the causes are for a Corporation. You will come to find out there is a difference between the two; the differences you find are mainly used for Tax Purposes. Liquidation refers to the complete sale of the business assets, whereas Dissolution refers to the closure of a business, usually on voluntary terms of the business proprietor. When dealing with the process of either situation your assets should be of a focusing concern, but these are all things that will be discussed throughout the dissertation. The difference between a corporation that is liquidated and one that is dissolved is Liquidation is when company debts and other liabilities exceed its assets; or firm is terminated or bankrupt, its assets are sold and the proceeds pay creditors. Any odds and ends are distributed to pay off the shareholders. When a corporation is completely liquidated, it transfers all of its assets to its shareholders whether the assets are cash or property and the shareholders assume the corporation's remaining liabilities.  Liquidation sales take place in various formats, including negotiated buyouts, consignment sales and auctions. Whereas Dissolution refers to the closure of a business, usually on voluntary terms of the business proprietor. This means termination of an agreement, contract, corporation, or partnership it requires the payment of all...

Adverse Trend

...Adverse Trend: Telecare Abandonment of Calls Cindy Roloff HCS/482 August 4, 2014 Lynn Bertsch Adverse Trend: Telecare Abandonment of Calls Utilization of data to resolve an adverse trend is a form of process improvement that has a basis in factual and representable information. Upon identification of an adverse trend, there must be relevant data collection to determine an etiology prior to taking action. Technology can assist with this search to expedite the improvement process. The purpose of this paper is to discuss applying technology to create an objective response to the adverse trend of abandoned calls in the Telecare clinical setting. Telecare Overview Telecare triage nurses manage symptom-based calls from patients at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Outpatient Clinic incoming call center. Currently, there are seven nurses that staff telephone triage with a volume of approximately 250 to 300 calls per day. The office hours in Telecare are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with observance of all federal holidays. The Telecare nurse is responsible for answering calls efficiently at approximately 32 calls per day. The Telecare nurse triages symptoms from the patient and obtains urgent access to the clinic via an evidenced based triage program called Veteran’s Health Gateway (VHG). This program helps the nurse make clinical decisions per protocols and provides evidenced based education recommendations based on the triage disposition...

Preferred Shares (Stock)

...Preferred Shares (Stock) The words such as stock and securities are currently used not only by business-related I have chosen to research preferred stock for this individual project. At first, from an accounting stand point, capital stock (stock) is a part of shareholders’ equity as the later is composed of capital stock and retained earnings and represents the amount by which a company is financed through common and preferred shares. The definition of stock varies across the dictionaries. However, most dictionaries agree that stock (also referred to as shares or equity) is a share in the ownership of a company: “a type of security that signifies ownership in a corporation and represents a claim on part of the corporation’s assets and earnings” (<http://www.investopedia.com/terms/s/stock.asp#axzz1dhYoEz9a >) “entitling the stockholder to dividends and to other rights of ownership, such as voting rights” (<http://www.thefreedictionary.com/Stocker>). The stock original capital is paid into or invested in the business by its founders and is divided into multiple shares, the total of which is stated at the time of business formation. Additional paid in capital of the stock is raised through the sale of shares. As one acquires more stock, their ownership stake in the company becomes greater. There are two main types of stock: common and preferred. Preferred stock, as well as common stock, additional paid-in-capital, retained earnings, and treasury stock are...

Mindwriter Corporation Critique

...Running head: MINDWRITER CORPORATION CRITIQUE Mindwriter Corporation Critique (Week 3) Norman E. Telles University of Phoenix Business Research Applications MGT480 Dr. Martha Stillman January 04, 2009 Mindwriter Corporation Critique A critique of Mindwriter’s Corporation research proposal will be reviewed for its effectiveness. The research method that was chosen for the proposal and how well it worked will also be discussed. In the preceding paragraphs the proposal will tell what, why, how, where and to whom the research will be done as well as show the benefit of the research itself. Before a research study takes place it is always a good idea to do a development chart which clearly describes how the problem is taken in steps and the research questions and objectives are used to arrive at a proposal to be approved before the study takes place. This will definitely be a useful guide to go by and can always be altered to meet needs. (Cooper & Schindler, 2003, chap. 4) Problem Statement Looking at the statement it says that some customers are unhappy with Mindwriter’s service problems. There is a program called CompleteCare which promises to provide service related issues on portable laptop and notebook computers. Apparently there is a shortage of trained personnel in the call center and Mindwriter wants to find out whether it’s the result of this or its products. Management is requiring information on the effectiveness of this program and whether it’s...
