Leadership: Where I Go From Here

Being a leader isn’t just someone who “leads” a group or who is a “front runner” in an organization, leadership is someone who inspires others, someone who motivates others, and someone who pulls others to be better people and stronger as individuals. A leader is an example to others. According to chapter one, in The Art and Science of Leadership, a leader is “guiding and directing on a course” and “serving as a channel” and a leader is someone with commanding authority or influence (Nahavandi, 2011). Guiding and influence play a key role in being a leader. Leaders are not born; they are made by learning themselves, growing, and therefore becoming leaders. Douglas McArthur once said, “A true leader has the confidence to stand alone, the courage to make tough decisions, and the compassion to listen to the needs of others. He does not set out to be a leader, but becomes one by the equality of his actions and the integrity of his intent” ("Leadership Quotes").

Leadership has many different definitions and some people do not realize that there are leaders around every corner. They are generally not famous and probably won’t be in the history books for years to come; however, they lead with their words and with their actions. They have a plan for success.

Where Should I Go?

...I want to share to u a POEM I made when I was on my high school year.i think I was on my 2nd year at high school...it is entitled "Where Should I go?" Well, it’s only now that I come to realized that i had chosen this topic because I was in the period of searching for myself. A period where I don't know where I'm going and heading. I was in a total confusion of where I should go.. Guess an identity crisis?!.. Well, I was in my teen age years and that's the problem of people when they are in that stage...   This was part of our requirements at school in our English subject. I was inspired to do this poem although it was a requirement then. Where Should I go? It was more of my search about me and my sense of direction in life. I am now 22 years old and had graduated from the degree Bachelor of Science major in Psychology. I really did learned a lot from schools especially during my college years. And this is where I’ve fully realized my attitude then and why I wrote this poem...   When we are in our adolescent stage (12-19), there are a lot of things we are thinking. This is where the identity formation develops. This is where we begin to build that identity within us. Most of the people at this stage are rebellious. Probably that's their way of finding who they are. There are a lot of confusions going on at this stage. Sometimes, most feel like they are living alone especially when they have no friends to talked to...But i cannot say that this is bad stage of human because...

The Revealing of a Monster

...‘sharp, knife-like fangs’. This should have convinced me to stay away from the woods, yet I still found myself already about two miles past the splintered fence that separates the old town from the looming darkness of the trees. My watch read 7:30 PM and I knew I should head back. The sun was beginning its descent for the day and it would soon be pitch black. As I turned to leave a ferocious wind took my hat. I ran after it. When i was finally able to dive onto my hat I realised I didn’t know where I was. There was no longer a path-like opening in the trees. I was in the middle of a circle of trees so tall that not a single ray of sunlight reached the mossy ground where I stood. I was engulfed in darkness. The stillness of the woods that at first mesmerized me, now sent an eerie chill down my spine. But the bone-rattling silence was soon replaced by the moaning of the wind as it hit my frozen cheeks. I saw movement behind me and all my instincts told me not to look, to just accept my fate and close my eyes but I couldn’t. I reluctantly turned my head to stare into the dark, crimson eyes which stared back at me with a sickening hunger while it’s long tail wagged slowly back and forth. It’s arms hung loosely, almost reaching the ground below. I stood frozen until the terrifying wolf-like creature smiled with an open mouth, revealing it’s brown, decaying canines. It swayed towards me and I knew then that there was no hope. The drooling monster got down on all fours and...

Personal Narrative: Where I Go To College

...As a teenager starting junior high, it seemed like forever until I would be deciding what college I would be going to, and how I want to spend the rest of my life. But take it from me, those years fly by faster than you will ever know. Now that I am almost half way through my junior year, it is time to research the last choices on the possible colleges I may go to. UNK or West Virginia Wesleyan are the two colleges I am contemplating over. Do I want to live over 1,230 miles or 45 miles from home? How much money am I willing to spend? Lastly which town and college has a safer and more suitable living facility. Leaving “the nest”, is a very hard and difficult task. As much as I may have wanted to leave my home at times, I know that it will not be easy when I really have to leave. By being 1,230 miles away, I can't just leave and go home for the weekend, I would have to take off school or wait until I have a break. But I could also go to my brothers who lives in Elkins, WV, if I got too lonely, it just still wouldn't be the same as going to see my parents. It may sound crazy but I do really love and care about them. So if I would be 45 miles...

The Time I over Came My Fear

...Period 2 October 26, 2012 Stepping out of comfort zone The warm summer breeze swept by bringing with it the delicious smell of hamburgers, hot dog, and chicken being grilled out in the backyard. As I ate my enormous hamburger, I sat still amazed at what I had accomplished that day. This was one of the best summer vacations I had spent with my cousin and it was one day that I would never forget. Beep! Beep! Beep! I opened my eyes and turned to look at the alarm 4:15 AM, just fivsse more minutes I told myself sleepily. “Come on wake up so you can eat something before you leave” yelled my mom from the kitchen. The morning felt cold so I put on some sweat pants and my favorite black and white long sleeve shirt. Half asleep I ate a warm, toasted, raisin bagel with a glass of milk. By 4:50, everything was packed in the car and we were ready to leave. My sisters, Patricia and Priscilla, half asleep wrapped in their blankets, walked to the car. The cold, fresh morning air hit my face as soon as I stepped out and I was suddenly wide awake. We were now on our way to Los Osos to spend the summer at my cousin Noah’s house. We entered the 10 freeway and it was completely dead, no cars were driving about it. After about an hour of driving the sun began to rise and it seemed to give life to the freeway, cars began driving onto it and before we knew it were stuck in traffic. My sisters woke up about nine so we took the next off ramp and went to nearby Denny’s to have breakfast. We all ordered...

Community Service

...For my community service I went to a church who donated to a charitable organization and I worked in the youth’s section. This was a great experience for me because I got to work with youth’s who were interested to learn. At the church we did different activities with each other, this was very interesting. We did different activities together which built a relationship as we bond and play. Helping in a youth group was exciting because I got to work and talk with people my age. I was able to help the younger children with their homework and I typed out documents. The attitude of the community was very positive. They followed the right pathway of God and represented the church well. I must say very proudly, that I didn’t occur in any problems during the different activities. The only problem I struggled with was dealing with the different attitudes presented before me. In a way this helped me a lot because it showed me how different people were in different ways. I did understand the different personalities and attitudes because everyone came from different family backgrounds. There interest with the people was well done; they made them feel welcomed and helped with any need they had. From this experience I did grow in many different ways, it allowed me to developed more conversations and help a lot of people out during their hard times. It also showed me that you can learn a lot of things from other people. This experience made a huge impact on my life, which can carry me throughout...

Personal Narrative-Where Should I Go To Israel?

...I was sitting on my cousins bed in Washington D.C. waiting to fly to Israel when my mom told me that I had lost to my openant in the election. I wanted to seem strong so I brushed it off on the phone and pretended that I was not even sad but deep down it hurt. I remember that night I prayed that I could go on my trip and learn about Christ's life and forget the hurt I felt and I made a decision right then that I would give it all to god and I would focus my energy on something else. I spent the next two weeks learning about christ and his time in Israel and I developed my testimony so much that I no longer felt the sting of my defeat. I came back and walked into the student council room with a new confidence that I could overcome anything and...

Case Study

...One might say that there was a “personality” clash between Knowlton and Fester. What personality model could you use to describe the clash? I would support that statement that there is an observable personality clash between Knowlton and Fester. Knowlton is taken back by Fester as he begins to feel somewhat inferior and not as content with his achievements in his project. According to the case, “Fester said some things that left Knowlton with a mixture of annoyance, irritation, and at the same time, a rather smug feeling of superiority in at least one area.” Referring back to the big five personality factors, Fester is emotionally stable, as well as Knowlton, but up to the point that he realizes leadership had been taken over, he becomes more less confident, rather disturbed. It said in the reading that Knowlton caught himself feeling apprehensive about the reaction that Fester might have to some of his work and that even Knowlton himself was a little surprised at his feelings because he had always been proud. Both men want to move forward with the project, and I feel like they were considerate to each other’s thoughts during the meetings. Fester is highly extraverted whereas Knowlton is more in the middle as the case goes on. In similarity, Knowlton and Fester are both open and conscientiousness. The GLOBE model could be used to describe the clash between Knowlton and Fester. This model addresses leadership qualities and recommends how leaders should conduct business in cultural...

Catcher in the Rye- Ducks

...youth throughout the book, such as his curiosity about ducks. "I was thinking about the lagoon in Central Park, down near Central Park South. I was wondering if it would be frozen over when I got home, and if it was, where did the ducks go. I was wondering where the ducks went when the lagoon got all icy and frozen over. I wondered if some guy came in a truck and took them away to a zoo or something. Or if they just flew away. (pg. 13)" Holden Caufield is a 17 year old boy who deals with the issue of growing up. Holden is at his time in age where he is forced to grow up, even though he doesn't want to. Holden has been trying to protect his innocence for quite some time, as he does not like the idea of growing up. Holden’s misunderstanding of the ducks is one example of his innocence. Knowing where ducks go during the winter is a simple fact that young children learn as they grow up. We do not know for sure how much Holden knows about the ducks, but we can conclude that this little fact, which is common knowledge, shows how Holden is protecting his innocence. Holden is trying to prevent himself from growing up by protecting himself from simple childhood facts. ""Hey, listen," I said. "You know those ducks in that lagoon right near Central Park South? That little lake? By any chance, do you happen to know where they go, the ducks, when it gets all frozen over? Do you happen to know, by any chance?" I realized it was only one chance in a million. ...SHOPPING BEHAVIOUR Shopping is really a very nice thing if I want to buy something for myself. Shopping is not always entertaining but if I want to buy something for myself of course shopping is good. I do shop or I do buy things from shopping malls for several different reasons. For example, I do buy my personal things, sometimes I buy households, Sometimes I I need to go in the shopping malls to buy gifts formal occasion or to buy something for closer one. I used to do window shopping with my friends, sometimes as well some personal things this is very simple. I do go in the shopping malls usually once or twice a month to buy my cloths, computer accessories, books or something whatever I need. If I need some medicines then I also go in the shopping malls to buy that. But basically I go in the shopping malls to buy different kind of cloths for myself or I go in the library to buy books. This is my patience to collect and buy more and more books. This is what I enjoy very much. But which is quite boring to me is buying the households. Brown University accepted 2,683 out of 19,059. Princeton University accepted 1,838 out of 18,942.He doesn’t use an interpreted information clearly, for example where he tells us that it does depend on the parents money it depends on the SAT score. Another example he tells us is that students don’t get in to the school or Universities they want or they feel they have to go. They go to the one where there is some space. It depends on their GPA score. Even Though they have a high grade the universities will accept the ones that have a higher GPA for example A+ . New York Universities were already a competitive institution, a school that's more than able to play in the big leagues. To accept a student they check on the essay they write. But he forgot to put how is the SAT what subjects do this test is about. Where the Side Walk Ends

...Kelsey Moore Nov 11, 2013 Eng 101 Looking into Where the Sidewalk Ends Have you ever asked questions, or thought about what is behind the scenes. Why does it seems like only children use their imagination anymore? I think the poem, Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein is saying that exact thing. This poem is talking about a place that is peaceful, with no problems. But not just anyone can go to this place, and only the people with the eye to see it realize it is there. The first two line is the poem stats, “ There is a place where the sidewalk ends, and before the street begins,” That right there makes me think automatically this might be about something magical, or something where you have to think outside of the obvious and use your imagination. Which it seems like it gets more and more difficult for people to do these days. To me everything is a yes or a no. Or a straight forward answer this poem is already in the first two lines making me think that maybe there is more out there then what we see to a natural eye, you may just have to look outside of the big picture and see the small pictures. Line thee and four make me think a little bit, the state, “and there the grass grows soft and white, and there the sun burns crimson bright.” This changes up my thought because the grass growing soft and white makes me think it is almost like snow. The grass at this place is not the normal weird color green and itchy like we normally have in our...

Eglish 2 Paper

...jungle, there is no telling where someone will end up. Being at a new place for the first time can be scary and dangerous. One wrong look and someone’s life could be over. Here are a few tips to surviving your first year at Tennessee Tech University. Know where things are located, go to class, and eat healthy and stay active. First, there are quite a few buildings on campus. Knowing what those buildings are called and where they are located would be important information for the first day of classes. You do not want to be the guy that waits till the day of classes running around like a chicken with its head cut off asking everyone where the building is and getting lost; you will end up being late or even missing your first class. If you end up doing that, do not panic by any means. Your RA is so nice enough to leave a campus map on your bed from move in day. Take advantage of that map! It was a life saver to me. It will show you where every building is. Plus you need to know that room numbers go from smallest on the first floor to biggest on the upper. Every hall has its number right before you exit the stairs. That is my word of advice for incoming student’s, please take this advice to the heart. Second tip for the day, go to class! I know, I know you hear it from everybody. But, listen to me when I say it. I do not care if your class has 267 students, go to class. I do not care if your professor tells you, “I will not be taking attendance, and I will have every recording...
