As a sports enthusiast and an advocate for healthy lifestyle, I always try to stay active and on the move through cardiovascular activities such as jogging, basketball, or flag football. I also try to stay in the weight room every now and then to get in my resistance training to help maintain my muscle and not look too much out of shape as I get older. Once of the many topics of discussion as far as supplementation to exercising that I have come across is whether whey protein or soy protein is better for you. From my general understanding by reading the nutrition labels and light research on the web both helps with building lean muscle, just in different ways. This boils down to the amount of protein in the servings and how it is absorbed in the body. My reasoning for doing this research is so I can not only find out what works best for me but also to be able to explain the differences between the two to friends and others who may have questions about it. Research will have different approaches, views and ideas involved that researchers can use to come to a conclusion about a problem. Philosophical worldviews can be defined as “a basic set of beliefs that guide action” (Creswell, 2013). These views arise from discipline orientations, student advisor/mentor inclinations, and past research experiences which lead to a qualitative, quantitative or mixed method approach in research. The four types of worldviews widely known are postpositivism, constructivism, transformative and pragmatism. The worldview I will be bringing to the study will be of pragmatism. With pragmatism instead of the researcher focusing on methods, there is an emphasis on the research problem and use all approaches available to understand the problem (Creswell, p. 10). With the study that will be done on the differences in types of protein there will be a need for quantitative methods

...Yves Le Roux, Chris T. Livesey, Inga Thorsdottir, Daniel Tomé, Renger Witkamp. 1 For citation purposes: Scientific Report of EFSA prepared by a DATEX Working Group on the potential health impact of β-casomorphins and related peptides. EFSA Scientific Report (2009) 231, 1-107 © European Food Safety Authority, 2009 Review of the potential health impact of β-casomorphins and related peptides SUMMARY Proteins are a very diverse family of large organic compounds involved in many important biological processes. Following their enzymatic hydrolysis during food processing or digestion, proteins may release fragments from their primary amino acid sequence. These fragments are called peptides, and many of them are known to be physiologically active. The possible beneficial effects of bioactive peptides have attracted increasing interest in recent years. On the other hand, there are also reports suggesting that some food-derived peptides might adversely affect human health. Among these, β-casomorphin-7 (BCM7), a peptide sequence present in the milk protein β-casein, has been suggested to contribute to an increased risk for certain non-communicable diseases, such as autism, cardiovascular diseases and type I diabetes. Some literature reports have proposed possible mechanistic explanations for such associations Recognising the alleged negative effect of BCM7 on human health, EFSA deemed it necessary to perform a comprehensive review of the published scientific literature...

Coke Sustainability Report

...2011/2012 GRI Report A companion to the 2011/2012 Sustainability Report This report was released on October 7, 2012 | v1 . 8 About This Report The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) is “a network-based organization that produces a comprehensive sustainability reporting framework that is widely used around the world.” This year, in 2012, The Coca-Cola Company has set out to report against the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that measure economic, environmental and social performance. We have done so within the scope of our Company’s wholly owned operations. Where we have reported information on behalf of the Coca-Cola system (The Coca-Cola Company and our bottling partners), we have flagged this information within the body of the text. For 2012, and the 2011/2012 Sustainability Report specifically, our Company has self-declared a grade B against the GRI G3.1 Guidelines. This year’s Sustainability Report has also received verification by a third-party external verification agency, FIRA Sustainability BV. Their verification is evidenced by a “+” sign next to our grade B, which reflects their verification and approval of our tracking systems. Throughout this report, you will find the KPIs that we have addressed, along with additional information regarding our most critical initiatives and programs. While we strive to continuously increase our transparency, some of the information requested in response to additional KPIs could put at risk our ability to compete and therefore...
