White Christmas, an original idea on a new style of production. White Christmas was written by Irving Berlin and included songs from famous musicians such ad Bing Crosby, Danny O’Connor, Rosemary Clooney and Vera Ellen. Rider University preformed White Christmas between November 16th through November 20th at the Bart Luedeke Center Theater. I went on the night of Thursday, November 17th at 7:30 pm. The theater was basically sold out. The tickets for the show were five dollars for all Rider students. All non-Rider student adults ticket prices were 25 dollars. The overall age of audience members were typically people who were older, approximately above the age of 50. There were also college age students that attended Rider University present …show more content…
Over my high school career I have had a lot of experience in the fine arts departments in both music and in theater. For acting experience, I have worked on many plays before as a technical director through my old high school and through town organized productions. From music experience, I have played Trombone and have been a part of many bands such as Marching band, Jazz band, Brass Bands, and numerous honor symphonic bands all through my high school and early college career. With all this experience, I have had the pleasure to be apart and witness many production throughout my life. And even with all my past experience, White Christmas is ranked high on some of the best plays I have ever seen. There is very minimal that I could say that was bad about this …show more content…
Between the music, dancing, and acting, the show was an awesome performance. Some of the songs that were highlights to me were “Count Your Blessings Instead of Sheep,” “The Best Things Happen While You’re Dancing,” “I Love Piano,” “Happy Holidays” and “White Christmas.” These songs along with all the others gave the audience a positive impression. The dance numbers were amazing I personally liked how they incorporated the Jazz and tap routine. There is very little to be said negatively towards the show. The only negative feedback that I could personally give towards the show would be the role of Susan Waverly, and the composition of the overture. Other than these slight negativity, the overall aroura was amazing. All the actors who performed were extremally talented and it is a shame that they do not get the recognition that they deserve for all their hard work. I would personally recommend everyone to go out and see White Christmas, or at least any of the productions Rider University has to

Cause Marketing

...When you ask an expectant mother or father what they hope they are having, the response is usually “I don’t care if it is a boy or girl as long as they are healthy”. What if they aren’t? Meet Braelyn. She was due in April but born in January. Her parents live here in Murray, but Braelyn was born in Nashville. Because she was premature, she had to stay in the NICU. Once her mother was discharged from the hospital a few days after her birth, what was she to do? Would she leave her daughter in Nashville and return home to Murray? That’s not a likely option. She couldn’t afford to pay for a hotel, especially when she was told that Braelyn could be in the hospital for weeks. At that point someone told her about the Ronald McDonald House. The Ronald McDonald House is a safe place to stay within walking distance from the hospital; it is like a hotel with a dorm set-up that has rates based on your income. The Ronald McDonald House if mostly funded by donations. One way to donate is through cause marketing by buying a Happy Meal. Cause marketing (also referred to as cause-related marketing) is a type of marketing that involves the cooperative efforts of a “for profit” business and a nonprofit organization for mutual benefit. According to adage.com, the field of cause marketing began in 1983, when American Express raised money for the restoration of the Statue of Liberty. Adage.com states that “During a 3 month period, American Express offered to contribute one cent for each...

Motivation

...White Paper Motivating Employees on a Budget Keeping employees motivated and engaged is more important than ever during tough economic times. This white paper takes you through the dos and don‟ts of incentivising on a budget - how to maintain morale and maximise the return on your investment. During difficult economic conditions, the competition for custom intensifies; customers become far more discretionary in their spending and focus on getting the most out of their money. So it„s essential that employees are motivated to provide the highest levels of service that will set the company apart. Whilst it may be tempting for employers to make a quick saving by cutting the incentives budget, it‟s also a false economy. It‟s important to remember that organisations with effective incentive schemes and high employee engagement consistently and significantly outperform their competitors. Unfortunately over two-thirds of employers report that low staff morale is currently an issue and almost three-quarters realise that they face the problem of re-engaging staff in the organisation.1 Going forward, employers are recognising that employee commitment will be vital if a company‟s performance is to be sustained. A recent survey found that 64% of employers intend to increase their focus on the motivational value of reward programmes over the next 2-3 years.2 It‟s commonly agreed that incentives have a positive and lasting effect on behaviour. One study reported that 75% of employers accept...

A Florida judge has agreed with a defense request to have John Ditullio’s tattoos covered up by a makeup artist so that they cannot influence the jury in his murder trial. The court paid $125 a day for the services of a cosmetologist and the process took process 45 minutes.     Criminal “John Ditullio goes on trial for murder charges related to a double stabbing that wounded a woman and killed a teenager in 2006.   This is Mr. Ditullio’s second trial for the murder; the first, which also involved the services of a cosmetologist, ended last year in a mistrial. If convicted, he could face the death penalty.         Jurors will not see the large swastika tattooed on his neck. Or the crude insults tattooed on the other side of his neck, or know about the taunting Christmas card he sent to the victim’s family from prison.  Or the fact that he was a Neo-Nazi group member. The judge was wrong to have agreed with defense to cover up John Ditullip‘s tattoos by a hiring maker-up artist, because tattoos have a communicative value, especially the ones with high public visibility (see plot below).   According to research performed by Kathleen Doss & Amy S Ebesu Hubbard , tattoos...

Racism

...Before beginning to write this paper I took the advice given in class and decided to do a little research of my own as to what other countries saw as American culture. My discoveries were shocking. One quote specifically said,”All Americans care about are fancy cars, big houses, expensive things, and impressing the next person...” However, the more I sat back and thought about American culture and how it had influenced me and the ones around me, sadly I realized that this statement was not so far off from the truth. I grew up a biracial child adopted by a white family. My father owns an oil and gas company and my mother, well she does what every other housewife/stay at home mom in the ritzy subdivision I was raised in...nothing. Now I love my mom and looking back on my childhood I would not have wanted it any other way, she was there waiting for me every day when I came home and the time we spent together was amazing. To be completely honest though I have probably worked more hours in my short 19 year old life than she ever has. I guess you could say my family is living the “American Dream”. On both sides of my family the emphasis on money and materialistic things was huge. They are all wonderful people but lets face it we all know that Uncle Bubba showed up so fashionably late on Christmas Eve just to be sure that we all got a real good look at his sparkling new Mercedes Benz CLS and wanted us all to rest assured that yes, it was fully loaded. Growing up I was always a bit embarrassed...

Carson Mccullers The Heart Is A Lonely Hunter

...Introduction A.Literature Review 1. Research Abroad Carson McCullers is one of the most brilliant writer in 20th century America. In 1939, she finished her first novel, The Heart is a Lonely Hunter. It is this novel that launched a 22 years old girl to fame. As early as the 1940s, the western literary world began the criticism about Carson McCullers and her works. At that time, a large majority of the researches used the method of New Criticism. Through a close reading of the texts, they tried to analyze the internal structure and the poetic character of her works. Those new critics did not pay attention to the connection between the novel and the personal experience of the author. And they did not find the profound social significance behind...

...There are many different cultures in Southwest Florida that one becomes immediately aware of as they enter the area. They include Native-American, African-American, Protestant, European, "Cracker", Hispanic-Latino, and Cuban. Because there are so many variations of these cultures choosing just three was difficult, but for my project I will be focusing on our African-American, Hispanic-Latino, and "Cracker" populations. During this project I will address the many and varied differences between these cultures on many different levels including personal or family differences, social differences and educational differences. I expect to gain a greater understanding about these cultures during this process and by gaining this understanding I will be better equipped to combine students from these cultures into a classroom of learners that are able to succeed on all levels of History education. Because I do teach World History having a classroom full of diverse cultures lends itself to a variety of teaching activities and extra curricular learning. Miami-Dade Community College President Eduardo J. Padron. Said it best when he said "Our classrooms are laboratories for cultural diversity and the disciplines are enriched when students contribute various cultural perspectives," It has become increasingly clear that we must get creative in culturally diverse ways in order to pull all of our students into the learning culture in equal ways. I spent several days researching the material that...

World Religions Report

...Running head: WORLD RELIGIONS REPORT World Religions Report XXXXXXXX Axia College HUM 130 XXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXX World Religions This paper presents research of the beliefs and practices of Roman Catholicism; describes the worship space of the church; summarizes an interview conducted with a believer; and finally, compares Roman Catholicism to Islam. The Roman Catholic Church’s origins come directly from the teachings of Jesus and his disciples, as do all denominations of Christianity. “Jesus sent his disciples into all the world, and Paul had opened the church to the Gentiles. In a sense catholic Christianity was simply a development of Jesus’ plans and Paul’s efforts”. (Shelley, 1995) When Constantine became the first Christian Roman emperor in 313 A.D., Christianity became free from persecution and later even became the official religion of the Roman Empire. This however; marked the unofficial end of the unified church as power plays and politics became as much a part of the church as the gospels themselves. In 1054, the Eastern Orthodox Church split from the unified Church over the principle of supreme authority being held by the Bishop of Rome (better known as the Pope). During this time, the Roman Catholic Church also established its own authority to teach and interpret scripture. “Individual believers are not encouraged to read the Bible and seek its meaning; instead...

Benjamin Powell and David Skarbek• Department of Economics San Jose State University San Jose, CA 95192-0114 benjamin.powell@sjsu.edu ABSTRACT Many studies have shown that multinational firms pay more than domestic firms in Third World countries. Economists critical of sweatshops have responded that multinational firms’ wage data do not address whether sweatshop jobs are above average because many of these jobs are with domestic subcontractors. In this paper we compare apparel industry wages and the wages of individual firms accused of being sweatshops to measures of the standard of living in Third World economies. We find that most sweatshop jobs provide an above average standard of living for their workers.
