Whitson-Owen: “Prejudice of women in the workplace is still very much a real thing. On average, women still earn 33% less than men. Many employers do not offer paid-maternity leave. The United States is one of the two countries that does not offer any paid maternity leave. The only other country that does not provide paid maternity leave is Oman. How ridiculous is that? Albania offers 12 months paid leave, Mexico requires 12 weeks paid leave, Britain allows 40 weeks paid leave, Canada allows 1 year, and China allows for 14 weeks. Yet, in the United States, working women are not entitled to any paid maternity leave unless their employer offers it. We need to pass laws that mandate that women are entitled to equal pay and paid maternity leave. We also need to continue to educate women on their value. Knowledge is power”.

It has shown to impact individuals and harm society as a whole. If people keep discriminating others based on opinions that hold no true meaning, society will not be able to thrive. Prejudice is created through the spread of highly opinionated ideas and ideology, and has only gotten larger through today's technology and media coverage. There is still hope. Through a careful educated eye mankind will be able to see prejudice for what it is. We as a whole can put a stop to the hate that has been driving the world round and round for centuries. Through the power of learning and understanding people for who they are mankind can learn to have pride in the differences that make the world unique. Prejudice can be stopped.
