I know my knives are sharp when my knife is able to cut through my arm hair like a new razor. I leave my house by 1:45 pm to arrive to the event by 3pm. I usually arrive to the event 20 minutes earlier to park my car and entire the event. Once I arrive at the parking structure the valet person checks my ID card to validate my parking. I then cross the street from the parking structure where the event is held and go through a security check. After the security check, I walk up a small steep hill to check in at the volunteer booth. I am then given a name badge and a raffle ticket to be entered into next years California Winemaster event for free. Once I’m checked into the event I’m given an assignment. Since working the event for the last five years I’m always given the same assignment equipment check. I am given a list of equipment that should be at the tables of the different restaurants that were requested by the chef. I then take a small group of volunteers to come along with me to grab the equipment if any is missing from the table and check it off the list. I also have the volunteers walk around to make sure that every table has plates, napkins, and forks for the chefs to plate their food on. ...I am writing this in efforts to appeal my academic probation. When I first started at Kaplan I was unsure about the policy and procedures. I was under the impression that as long as we viewed the seminar it would be alright I was confused to the fact you have to attend it when it is live or complete option 2 later in the block I figured out why I was receiving zeros so I went back and did option two for about 6 of the weeks. I turned them in the last day of school and my professor informed me that it should have been turned in sooner and I was unable to receive credit. I currently hold a 1.85 GPA. It is very important to me that I receive a degree. I have two children to support and hopefully one day I will be able to provide for my mother seeing how I am in the position I will be “sandwiched” by raising children and caring for my mother. ...We are living in a time where the sketched epistemes of political rationality for which ‘life’ is the organizing object of politics (i.e., biopolitics) is being challenged. During the 1970s and beginning of 1980s theorists such as Foucault argued that the sovereign right to kill was increasingly displaced by the administrative compulsion to make live. That is, instead of ending violence or killing especially in the context of Europe and North America lethal conflict was redistributed through out the population turning politics into war by other means such as the withdrawal of the state from the household (i.e., oikos) and national life and hence with a more focus on biopolitics. In the Global South though theorists like Mbembe challenge Foucauldian biopolitics to argue that outside Europe and North America this governing of life (zoe) took a different form: necropolitics resulting from the histories of power relations such as slavery and colonization. Yet, theorists in the Global North such as Foucault insisted that the 1970s the life of power mutated increasing the neoliberal turn in government leaving our times and more concretely “the future as yet unthought.” This class begins with Foucault’s concept of biopolitics and Mbembe’s idea of necropolitics and asks: what are the stakes in thinking and practicing power today through the locus of biopolitics and/or necropolitics? For example, Oprah Winfrey well known African American TV mogul reported to entertainment tonight that she was discriminated against just last year when she tried to buy an expensive purse at a store and was denied by the teller who stated that the purse was too expensive and that she should choose another less expensive purse. Also, in 1994, the well-known restaurant chain, Denny’s, were sued in race bias suits for 54 million dollars to customers that were discriminated against while dining at their restaurant. Some customers complained that they were made to pay higher prices for food than white customers and in some cases minority customers were treated rudely. Therefore, I was rather excited when I was assigned a research paper on The Who; a band who I really knew nothing about before American Popular Music. In the following paper, I will provide details about The Who’s individual band members’ lives, as well as information in relation to the band in general. The Who had four main members: Pete Townshend, Roger Daltrey, John Entwistle, and Keith Moon. In addition to being the band’s guitarist, Pete Townshend took on the roll as the primary song writer. The most interesting fact I found about Townshend, is that he owns his own book publishing company. He actually published a book of his own called “Horse’s Neck” which consisted of a variety of short stories. Raspberries are found to be high in pectin, while strawberries, blackberries, and blueberries are low in pectin. Finding a decent patch of berries to harvest that has not been picked through can sometimes be a challenge. Walmart and Fred Meyers will have everything needed to make raspberry jam. For the food portion of the shopping list, the following are needed: • At least 6 cups of white granulated sugar • 1 cube of butter • CERTO brand fruit pectin in the pouch found in the food storage section. • If you missed the berry picking season, frozen red raspberries will suffice.
