I watched a video called, “Whole Brain Teaching: Grade 1 Classroom,” a video about a young teacher teaching her classroom with many different techniques. Throughout the video her students stayed on track and was well self disciplined which is what you need from your students to be an effective teacher.(Wong, 160) I am very impressed with how well her class knew what was expected of them when each verbal and hand gesture was given especially since I believe they were only in the classroom for about 2 and a half months and she displayed many different verbal and hand gestures in this short video. She is a teacher that loves her students and loves learning. This teacher wants to be the best influence in her students and preapre her students for the real world. She knows when her students are ready when all of them are singing a catchy tune about how all their friends are here ready to learn. This was a prcedure that she does to transition her students for another activity. (Wong, 200) One of the first techniques she uses is called, “blow it in your hand,” it is used for when she wants all her students to say the answer at the same time. Also she only has them blow it in their hand when they know the answer , so as they blow in their hand she quickly looks around to see which students know the answer and which ones who don't. Mirror is another technique she used when she wanted her students to do something following her lead. She model first and then had them do the same thing following. She uses all of the modalites of teaching when she does this technique which is great for all students who learn in different ways. One last techniques that I really liked was when she wanted her students attention she would say class and the students responded with yes, this is how the students knew that their teacher wanted all eyes and ears on

A study done by an American, named James Wallace (2008), mentioned that Filipino students prefer a quiet environment rather than having music or other sounds when studying. However, there are researches which showed that many students prefer to listen to a lecture or study on their own with some background music on because it makes them more receptive to learning (Tenedero, 2009). Light is the second element of the learning environment. Brighter lightings can reduce visual problems, fatigue, and posture problems and produce effective learning which helps improve students’ academic performance (Jensen, 2006). However, research also shows that there are many students who perform significantly better in low light environments because bright lights make them restless, fidgety, and hyperactive. Dimmed light environments calm down many learners and it makes them relax and think clearly (Prashnig, 2006). Temperature is another element that plays a key role in the learning environment.
