There are many good reasons why I chose to go back to college, despite it took me 12 years after graduating High school to make that choice. For example, my children are the number one reason why I am currently studying to get a nursing degree. Having an education opens many doors for me to succeed, and provide a better life for them. I want to give them the opportunity to farther their education after High School. First, I want them to be proud of me; Second, I want to encourage them to keep studying; And third, make them see that getting an education is the best decision, and they follow my example. I want to secure their future, by having a college found for both of them separately, so they do not have to worry about money for college. Another good reason is, to help lighten the Burden on my husband’s shoulders if work would slow down, or he loses his job. To go to college and get an education makes me the back-up plan to support my family. My husband is the only provider for my children and I, and I plan to change that. Furthermore, I want to make adequate preparations for our retirement plan, so my children do not have to worry about us, when we get old. One last reason is to make myself proud, to achieve a degree on a career I enjoy. Going back to school has been the best choice I made in a very long time, and all my reasons for it, makes it so much worth

My name is Sheena Alexander and I am 29 years old with a husband and two beautiful children. If you had asked me 7-10 years ago if I had any intentions on returning to school I would have said I don’t know or maybe may be not. It was an idea that I played around with a lot in my head. It was back in February of 2009 when I finally made the decision that it was best for me to return to school and obtain a degree. I have been working since I was 16 years of age and with all the jobs and experience that I have under my belt I have never seemed to be fulfilled with any of my pass jobs. I noticed how some of my co workers would get better opportunities within the company before I did simply because they had a degree. I would often wonder if I went back to school and got my degree that could be me but I just could not fathom the thought of sitting in a classroom or just going back to school. I remember working for a company called Orkin Pest Control and anytime they would post management, leadership, or trainer positions I would get so excited at the chance to apply. After being with the company two years I always figured that it would be easy for me to...

Claras Day

...Clara took of all her clothes in school assembly. She did this, for what at the time seemed like no particular reason at all. But later on we find out that she lives in a home where the mom has a boyfriend, which she spends most of her time with. Because of that, the mom doesn’t really pay any attention to Clara. So she feels somewhat offended by this, and chooses to strip down in the school. This is of course an act of extremism and, even though the author tries to keep the suspicions down, we notice that there’s something wrong in the household she lives in. We also sense a kind of strained relationship between Clara and Stan. She’s supposedly mad at Stan because of all the attention he’s getting, or he might actually be sexually abusing her. I know this is a strange thing to say, but when you hear them conversing. You might know why I’m thinking like I do. Just touching him makes her shiver. When we hear her mom laughing over the attention craving act Clara performed earlier, we finally understand that Clara want her mom to be concerned about what she’s doing. I mean they can’t even have a normal conversation, and the mother shows no interest at all in changing that. Just look at the scene where she returns from school and the mother just asks if there’s any news, and when Clara says no, she doesn’t dig any deeper. 1. What did Clara do and how did she do it? Clara stripped off in the assembly hall in front of the whole Girls only school, and just walked away.  2....

Why College Is Important

...1 “Why college education is important to me” Achieving Academic Excellence February 6th, 2014 The purpose of this essay is to show the importance of a college education and to provide many reasons why a college education would be important to me. I will incorporate a few quoted references along with some statistical data and my personal opinion. About twenty years ago I couldn’t give an answer to “why college is important to me”. I did enroll in a college and lasted about three semesters. I didn’t do well in many of my classes because I had poor study habits, lacked maturity, was never really focused, and just didn’t have any real motivation and goals set for myself. I never really gave it much thought. The point is I just didn’t take advantage of what college would mean to me and to my future. I wanted to enter the work force right away because I thought that I could land a good job without a college education. After fifteen years of doing different jobs and not making enough money to support a family on my own, I was finally at a crossroads. What am I going to do with my life? Do I continue to struggle? Those were really good questions. I realized that it wasn’t possible to land good jobs without better knowledge and the only way possible is to go back to school. I did some soul searching and came to the conclusion that if I am going to achieve something in this life and qualify for many positions then I must go back to college and work very hard for a degree. I did a lot...

The Memoir of Autism

...Autistic Kid I was born and raised in China. According to its law every family is only allowed to have one child. Therefore, I grew up with no brothers or sisters. My parents used to be very busy with their work when I was a toddler. They left home very early in the morning and came back very late, so I did not see my parents often. My grandma was the only person to look after me at that time. Thinking back, the only time I saw my parents was during the weekends. I would sometimes look for my mom and dad. I asked my grandma one time: “where are Mom and Dad?” My grandma was a very humble and good-hearted person. She would say, “Mom and dad are working today and they will bring your favorite toys home tonight. So, you had better be a good boy tonight and finish your dinner.” I did not see any toy the next day and would forget to ask about my toys.My grandma used to spoil me a lot because my parents were not around and I was her only grandson at the time. She would feed me 3 meals a day and give me anything I ask for. She would carry me around even though I was capable of walking by myself. She would not to go to sleep before I fall asleep.Under this kind of circumstance, I gradually became self-centered and did not know how to communicate with others well. When I grew much older, I thought I was very special and could have everything from my parents. The reason was that they did not look after me very much when I was young. Therefore, I developed a habit of...

A 1950s Childhood

...I chose to look at a video of school rules and their importance in the 1950s, which I found on YouTube. Although uploaded to YouTube in 2008, the video was produced by Coronet Instructional Films in 1953. This video particularly intrigued me because I am interested in becoming a teacher and always want to see how school life and the classroom environment were significant in a time other than today. Also, with my research paper topic being childhood in the 1950s, this was particularly helpful in describing what school life was like. Much was happening during this time including The Montgomery Bus Boycotts, civil rights, WWII, desegregation of schools and the atomic bomb. It was intriguing to see how the video went about enforcing rules during the hardships of the time and making sure all students knew and understood just how significant rules can be. The video lays out the importance of rules, especially in a challenging setting like a school and strives to make it clear to students that rules are made for a reason and no one is exempt from them. I had positive feelings while watching the video and I felt good in knowing that authority figures like principals and teachers are helping to ensure students understand the rules and know why they are used. I appreciated that the video is easy to follow and detailed enough to express the point but not so much as to overdo it. Three clear aspects of the video stuck out to me: 1. To have all students read, watch, and ask questions...
