Why Do Humans Kill Off Vampire Bats

Here are my top three reasons on why humans should not kill off vampire bats. Firstly, humans should have no control over if another species should live or not. For example, humans would not like it if some other species decide to wipe us humans from existence. Therefore, if we would not like it if it was done to us why should we have any say in if another species should live or not. Secondly, vampire bats can actually cure some diseases us humans have. For example, according to Chris Kaul of the “Los Angeles Times” vampire bats can be a reliable source for curing heart disease and can even hold the key to curing A.I.D.S and cancer. Therefore, if this is true we should not kill off something that could save innocent lives. Thirdly, vampire

...Johnson Mrs. Ulrey English 12 10 March 2011 Vampires: Fact or Fiction? When the word “vampire” comes up in a conversation an immediate thought that comes to mind is Twilight. The Twilight series has made the world of vampires and werewolves a teenage girls greatest fantasy. To some, the idea of having a mythical creature fall madly in love with you is romantic, but what if vampires aren’t actually mythical creatures? What if they are real, human like killers who have a taste for human blood? How can a human being make up something so vile, it almost seems like it somehow has to be based off of a real life situation, or maybe the imagination of early humans, due to boredom, led to the creation of this creature. Is this doomed to be a mystery forever? We may never know who came up with the first vampire story. What we do know is the “vampire tales originated in Eastern European and Balkan countries, such as Hungary, Romania, Greece, and Albania” (Crawford 2). People during the late 1600’s until the early 1800’s did not take vampire hunting as joke like people would today. They were actually very serious about it and vampire hunters were considered extremely important. One could not just become a vampire hunter but instead had to be born with a special gift, such as clairvoyance. Only males could be born with clairvoyance, which is basically a sixth sense and allows you to see vampires. Since only few were able to be vampire hunters they “commanded handsome fees of money...

The Parallels of Dracula and Religion

...interpretation of vampires and, the supposed king of all vampires, Count Dracula, whether it be in all the several different variations and interpretations that can be seen in movies (most recently the series of Blade movies starring Wesley Snipes) that have been released over the last few decades all the way to “The Count” on “Sesame Street” the long running children’s television show) or “Count Chocula” (on the cover of a children’s cereal box). When people hear either the word vampires or Dracula, most of the time people tend to think about the mythical blood sucking race of immortals called vampires and also some people that know a little more than the average person does about vampires may think about several of their stereotypical characteristics such as: they are from a place called Transylvania, they have sharp, pointy teeth to draw blood from the necks of humans, they can not come outside during the day, they sleep in coffins, turn into bats, and they are killed by pure silver, garlic, and several religious artifacts. However, people do not really think about all the connections between the vampires and all of the religious artifacts that are said to kill them. Religion plays a major role in the story of Dracula, because when one looks closely enough to what vampires and Dracula are all about one can see that vampires are basically the antichrist. Without religion the alternative ways of killing a vampire would make them seem almost as though they are regular humans. “Bram...

Calcutta's Metro

...The Origin of the Vampire Vampires, are they a mythical creature that was created by superstition and folklore or did they begin from someone’s fantastic imagination based on a real live person? Or maybe it was created to explain a cluster of misunderstood medical conditions that began before the medical world had advanced science and knowledge on the body and its psyche. It’s a word that inspires awe, fear, and romanticism all at once. Vampires are known in every culture and have been kept alive through stories that have been told throughout the generations. When someone utters the word “vampire” most people’s mind jump to Dracula from the great love story written by Bram Stoker. Dracula was created because Stoker was inspired by a real live man, the infamous, Vlad Tepes from Romania. That story is where love and vampires were intertwined and a kind of admiration was born. Only till recently they have become these seductive beautiful men and women in movies like ‘Twilight’ and ‘The Lost Boys’. So we are going to embark on the journey of where vampires began and explore the different aspects and origins of vampires. How these creatures were created was recorded in European folklore, Greek Mythology, found in medical conditions, and even taken from an excluded book of the bible. What is a vampire? Where did they come from? Well to get some answers we must first start at the beginning. First we must look at the word vampire. It is also spelled “vampir” or “vampyre”...

Hamilton, 1997 Anita Blake, vampire hunter, is now herself a hunted woman. Who put the $500,000 price on her head--a man or a monster? It's not just her own skin she needs to save; the rivalry between her werewolf boyfriend, Richard, and Marcus, the other alpha werewolf in his pack, has come to full boil. And there's always Jean-Claude, the vampire who's been waiting for just the right moment to slip inside Anita's head and heart. 1 The most beautiful corpse I'd ever seen was sitting behind my desk. Jean-Claude's white shirt gleamed in the light from the desk lamp. A froth of lace spilled down the front, peeking from inside his black velvet jacket. I stood behind him, my back to the wall, arms crossed over my stomach, which put my right hand comfortably close to the Browning Hi-Power in its shoulder holster. I wasn't about to draw on Jean-Claude. It was the other vampire I was worried about. The desk lamp was the only light in the room. The vampire had requested the overheads be turned out. His name was Sabin, and he stood against the far wall, huddling in the dark. He was covered head to foot in a black, hooded cape. He looked like something out of an old Vincent Price movie. I'd never seen a real vampire dress like that. The last member of our happy little group was Dominic Dumare. He sat in one of the client chairs. He was...

Damon said casually to Elena as she entered the room, twisting around something on his fingers, betraying his tension beneath the calm exterior.   "I'm tired Damon," Elena replied, a hint of warning in her voice as she watched him step closer. "I brought you this," Damon said dangling her necklace in front of her, his pathetic excuse to see her and know that she was safe. "I thought that was gone," Elena said in surprise, Damon shaking his head with the ghost of a smile on his face as memories flooded his mind, particularly when he held the same necklace in his hand, clasping it around her neck, refusing her challenge for him to compel an answer out of her. "Thank you," Elena continued reaching out for the necklace but Damon pulled back his hand. "Please give it back…" she said as fear crept into her eyes, unwillingly as her mind automatically recounted that fateful night. It played in her mind—how she walked in and found him, just like tonight, with that look in his eyes that almost made her run to him when he saved her. "I just have to say something," Damon said stepping closer to her, the words almost spilling out of him with urgency. "Why do you have to say it with my necklace?" Elena said instinctively pulling away from him as flashes of his urgent kiss, the anguish in his eyes and Jeremy dead in her arms. ...

New Moon

...New Moon By Stephenie Meyer Summary When the Cullens, including her beloved Edward, leave Forks rather than risk revealing that they are vampires, it is almost too much for eighteen-year-old Bella to bear, but she finds solace in her friend Jacob until he is drawn into a cult and changes in terrible ways For my dad, Stephen Morgan— No one has ever been given more loving and unconditional support than I have been given by you. I love you, too. These violent delights have violent ends And in their triumph die, like fire and powder, Which, as they kiss, consume. Romeo and Juliet, Act II, Scene VI PREFACE I FELT LIKE I WAS TRAPPED IN ONE OF THOSE TERRIFYING nightmares, the one where you have to run, run till your lungs burst, but you can't make your body move fast enough. My legs seemed to move slower and slower as I fought my way through the callous crowd, but the hands on the huge clock tower didn't slow. With relentless, uncaring force, they turned inexorably toward the end—the end of everything. But this was no dream, and, unlike the nightmare, I wasn't running for my life; I was racing to save something infinitely more precious. My own life meant little to me today. Alice had said there was a good chance we would both die here. Perhaps the outcome would be different if she weren't trapped by the brilliant sunlight; only I was free to run across this bright, crowded square. And I couldn't run fast enough. So it didn't matter to me that we were surrounded...
